Chapter 6: The First Confrontation

Chapter 6: The First Confrontation

Since the night he saved the little girl in the alley, Li Tong's life had begun to change. The thrilling events of that night still lingered in his mind. He vividly recalled the scene: the dim lights in the alley, the fear on the girl's face, and the brazen attitude of the thugs. What stood out most was the moment when he first used his ability, feeling the surge of electricity from his palms—both exhilarating and unsettling.

Li Tong remembered that night well. He had just wanted to quietly go home after a long day’s work, but he encountered those thugs deep in the alley, threatening a helpless girl. In that instant, he felt an uncontrollable rage. Even though he hadn’t fully mastered his powers, he still chose to intervene.

"Stop!" he had shouted, hoping to scare the thugs away. But when they ignored his warning and continued to advance on the girl, fear and anger welled up inside him. At that moment, the electricity within him was suddenly unleashed, transforming his anger into a powerful blue lightning bolt that struck the lead thug.

In that moment, Li Tong was not just shocked—he realized that he was no longer an ordinary person. The thugs collapsed under the assault of the current, and in the corner of his eye, he saw the girl's expression change from fear to astonishment. Although the girl was unharmed, Li Tong was overwhelmed by a complex mix of emotions.

He quickly realized that his actions were not just a spontaneous effort to protect the girl but also driven by a deep-seated sense of justice. This power allowed him to protect the innocent and, in some way, compensate for the mundane and powerless life he had once led. However, the unpredictability of this power also filled him with deep unease.

But the rescue wasn’t without consequences. A few days later, Li Tong began to notice some unusual occurrences. He felt like he was being followed while working, especially at night when he would occasionally spot unfamiliar faces watching him from a distance.

At first, Li Tong thought it was just his imagination. After all, his actions that night hadn’t been particularly conspicuous. However, as time went on, this sense of unease grew stronger, especially during certain moments when he could almost feel a dangerous presence drawing near, as if some invisible threat was closing in.

Li Tong didn’t act immediately but chose to wait and observe. He understood that the power he possessed might have caught the attention of certain people, but he wasn’t sure who they were or what they wanted. To avoid unnecessary trouble, he decided to lay low for a while, trying not to attract attention.

One evening, after finishing his deliveries, Li Tong was riding his scooter home. As he passed by the alley where he had saved the girl, he couldn’t help but recall the events of that night. It was the first time he had truly used his ability, and the first time he realized he was part of a new world.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

However, the streets were quieter than usual tonight—so quiet that it made him uneasy. Li Tong sensed a tension in the air, as if something was about to happen. He instinctively sped up, wanting to leave this unsettling place as quickly as possible.

As he rounded a corner, he suddenly felt a strange presence behind him. He instinctively slowed down, cautiously scanning his surroundings, but saw nothing unusual. However, the feeling of unease grew stronger, as if unseen eyes were watching him from the shadows.

“Could it be that night’s incident caught someone’s attention?” Li Tong wondered, recalling the strange occurrences of the past few days. He realized that his actions in fending off the thugs might have piqued the interest of people he shouldn’t have attracted.

Li Tong’s suspicions were soon confirmed. As he approached the familiar alley, several figures suddenly appeared at the intersection ahead, blocking his path. These people were dressed in black jackets, their faces expressionless as they stood still, seemingly waiting for something.

Li Tong's heartbeat quickened, and he instinctively stopped his scooter, calmly assessing the situation. The appearance of these men in black was no coincidence—their stance and demeanor indicated that they were prepared for this encounter.

“Who are you? What do you want?” Li Tong asked, trying to sound calm as he attempted to break the silence with words.

One of the men in black slowly stepped forward, a cold glint in his eyes. “Li Tong, I didn’t expect you to be so capable, using electricity to take down those punks. But tonight, you won’t be so lucky.”

Li Tong’s heart sank. He realized these people knew about his ability and had come specifically for him. He began to gather the electricity within him, preparing to defend himself.

“It seems you’re here for me,” Li Tong said coldly, while subtly adjusting his position to create an escape route.

“You overestimate yourself,” the man in black sneered, then waved his hand. The other men in black swiftly charged at Li Tong.

Without hesitation, Li Tong immediately unleashed a bolt of electricity, aiming to repel the two men at the front. However, to his shock, these men seemed prepared—they produced a special device that successfully neutralized his electrical attack.

“What is this…?” Li Tong was stunned but had no time to think as the men in black launched another attack.

Li Tong had to rely on his instincts to dodge quickly, while attempting to counterattack with stronger bursts of electricity. However, the men in black moved with precise coordination, their teamwork flawless, leaving Li Tong with almost no opportunity to fight back.

As the intense confrontation continued, Li Tong began to feel his electrical energy spiraling out of control, as if a more powerful force was being unleashed within him. His breathing became labored, and sweat beaded on his forehead. He knew he couldn’t keep this up much longer.

“I’ll have to take a gamble!” Li Tong decided, gathering all his remaining energy in his palms before releasing it in a massive surge. The entire alley was suddenly illuminated by a blinding blue light, and the powerful current struck all the men in black like a raging thunderbolt.

The men in black screamed in agony before collapsing to the ground. Li Tong panted heavily, feeling utterly drained. He knew he had barely managed to fend off these attackers, but he also realized this wouldn’t be the last time he faced such a threat.
