Through the weeks. There has been no change from the routine.
Wake up
Attend class
Train with Master
Sleep
Repeat
Each training Larian pushed himself to the brink of exhaustion. However, recently, there has been little progress.
Not in the sword art that his teacher has provided. But in his physical state. Larian had an inking from his first 3 months of training, but the next 2 months had confirmed his hypothesis.
'That I've reached my limit. My physical prowess doesn't improve no matter how hard I push myself.'
To confirm his guess, Larian had woken up extra early each morning these 2 months to test his fitness in different fields.
He ran, lifted bars of iron and exhausted his Magic each morning. He found that it hasn't been making progress.
He ran out of breath within the same time frame as he had 2 months ago, his back injured whenever he tried lifting heavier weights and his Magic Limit was not different.
'How does this make any sense? No matter how much my abilities are suppressed, there should have been some growth for persisting these few months.'
Larian had to finally conclude.
'It's not only my abilities that are suppressed. My growth was stunted!'
Larains eyes furrowed. He had hoped that he was wrong, that maybe efforts stacked within long periods would show some result. However, he finally faced the reality that he has not grown after so long.
Stopping his workout, Larian was getting ready for class. He left through his window, and hid by the shadow of the school dorm and the surrounding vegetation, moving unseen to a room decorated with plants.
This was the infirmary. With how intense his training was, his visits to Lily the school Doctor was almost a daily occurrence. Leaping through the window Lily look up with one eyebrow cocked up.
She stopped what she was doing and donned her coat, already understanding that there's work to do. She sighed as she spoke.
"Good morning Luman, and please stop coming through the window when there is a perfectly working door."
Larian smiled lightly as he replied.
"Good morning Mrs Lily, you know how I'm treated in the hallways. I have to be discreet in these matters."
Lily placed a medkit next to Larian as she examined her wounds.
"Small cuts to the chest and wrist and a few bites on your legs all clotted up again. How many times do I have to tell you to come immediately when you get these!"
Lily pouted as she unpacked a bottle and some bandages and continued:
"I'll disinfect them and tie it up again but please do not let these injuries become an infection lest I have to resort to amputation to save you."
At the end of her sentence she gave off an eerie smile that seemed to imply that it wouldn't be a joke. This made Lumain shiver from chest up.
"I-I'll take note, seriously this time."
In his heart he secretly muttered. 'If i really comd when I get these injuries, I'll have to trouble you in the middle of the night Mrs Lily, I apologise in advance.'
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
After the examination was over Lily poked at Larian's abs, almost impressed.
'The boy has a really unique physique, look at how lean and prominent his muscles are. There isn't an ounce of fat on these while his body is so slim. It's almost like some women I know.'
Slightly perplexed, Larian blinked incredulity
"Is something the matter, Mrs Lily?"
Lily leaned closed as she pinched Larian side. It was tough and firm.
"Just curious, do you have trouble eating? Low appetite or trouble with food?"
Larian thought for a moment before replying.
"None at all maam, I've been eating lots of meat for the past few months."
Lily finally sat back as she propped her head with her hand in a tick shape.
"Interesting… I would have thought you might grow bulkier with how intense you seem to be training but your physic has not grown since I first saw you, though they are definitely more refined. Hmm does this have to do with your rare trait I wonder."
Mrs Lily grabbed a notebook titled "Traits of Selarian Students" and flipped to a page under Ability Suppression. Under the lines of "Stunted Physical Growth" and "Limited Magic Capacity uncrossable with Elixers" Lily wrote an extra line, "Constant Muscle Mass since the time of Trait Manifestation."
"Since I got the time I got this trait?" Larian was confused.
Lily closed her book and pointed to his chair.
"Your weight hasn't changed since the last year you came. That chair is an instrument to measure your weight."
Setting aside her book Lily sat upright and gave Larian a serious look.
"Larian I apologise for not investigating your trait earlier, because of the rumours I have misjudged you. Only recently through my eyes, I truly believe that you are not the man they claim you to be."
Seeing Lily stare so directly into his eyes, Larian gulped in nervousness. But Lily didn't seem to notice it as she continued.
"I believe from what I've seen your abilities should have went beyond suppression and even completely stopping despite all the efforts, am I right."
Larian nodded.
"I've dug up all past records of people who have gained the same trait, and I must inform you. All of their futures were bleak. Many with aspirations has either given up or died pursuing their dreams."
"But among all the holders of this trait, 2 has held record of being famous… or infamous in one of the cases."
Larian eyes widened, his face took a serious turn.
'A chance! This might be my only hope to rid myself of my disability!'
Lily noticing Larians hopeful expression took of her glasses, as if she was afraid to see Larian's expression when he got disappointed.
"The first case, an Gyth from the Orkan Valley. Known as a mechanical genius of his time, he amputated his limbs and replaced them with prosthetic limbs which acted as weapons. He gained fame providing war veterans the chance to rejoin the battlefield in the Valley's Internal Conflict."
"This while not a direct solution, would allow you surpass your limits with augmentations if you wish to travel there to study."
Larian while shocked, was adamant in never losing any limbs.
'I'm not repeating my regret from the past! I will never amputate anything!'
Larian calmed down and asked again:
"And the second solution?"
Lily fidgeted slightly, she looked nervous as she spoke.
"A Traitor of humanity during the Dark Age, Simon Benedict. He was a noble who was against the Royal Family of the time and defected to join the Demons. He gained powers through a blood transfusion with Lilith, a Vampire Demon Lord and became a Sanguine which is a Human-Vampire hybrid."
Larian's mouth was ajar now.
'What? My only successful predecessors are one who gave away his limbs and the other who gave away his humanity?'
Flustered from Larians deteriorating expression, Lily quickly finished her sentence.
"No no! I'm not suggesting either of those, in this case I am bringing you a study of a previous professor which researched these matters."
Lily pulled out a thick leather bound tome she flipped them open as she explained.
"This tome was written by Selerian himself. On his research during the War, he hypothesised the possibility of gaining strength through blood transfusion. But either from the lack of manpower or interest it was disposed off never to see the light of day."
Lily now brought her glasses up and with a finger propping the side of it up she posed with confidence.
"I want you to leave it to me to make you a potion through this method to cure one of the key weaknesses of Ability Suppression!"
Her face which was so smug almost looked funny. But to Larian who understood her, knew this was no easy task, bordering on impossible. If even the Renowned Selarian who established this academy didn't find a solution how would Lily a doctor be able too?
But his heart still felt warm, he was truly glad that there was someone else who actually cared to help him.
"..."
"What?"
Lily recovered from her smug pose and looked towards Larian, her eyes widened.
"...Thank you."
Larian's face , which has gotten healthy in the past few months, looked brighter as he answered.
'Was he always capable of smiling like that?'
Stunned, Lily thought to herself. Larian had always worn a scowl on his face since he was constantly faced with insults whenever he met anyone, I was no wonder someone like him had a paranoid outlook towards the world.
Infected by the smile, Lily answered.
"Yes. I'll give you good news. I'm sure of it."
Larian left the infirmary in a great mood.
'To think there was someone else willing to look past the rumours and treat me like a normal person. And she was amazed at my muscles! That has to amount to something right?'
Larian secretly praised himself in his heart.
"Ugh, this guy is still here."
Noticing the gaze Larian quickly dash past them to avoid having unpleasant thoughts from forming.
'Guess not.'
Classes remained the same, Larian would fill the gaps of general knowledge which he was missing out on in Magic. During practices, Larian would continue with his attempts of Ritual magic.
Through his attempts he could now finally stretch out his magic in a slim but interwoven line that reached the magic in the air.
With Larian as the centre it looked as if he had weaved a web of magic that captured the surrounding particles like flies.
'Success!'
Larian exhausted all his magic in one go. His entire pool was used to capture every possible magic from its surroundings to the best of his abilities. His web seems to stretch a few metres out, making this space under his control.
As he slashed, the strike flew harmlessly into the air above unnoticed by anyone around. Since he only had to rely on a single attack, he prioritized making his trump card as strong as he could.
'Twice as far, but I can see it is much more concentrated than before. The power might be 4 times as strong in point blank range.'
He had researched, tested and confirmed this possibility a few months ago with his knowledge as the writer of this basic system and now he has reached it.
'This should be enough magic to rival a single cast of most third years now. Finally, I've caught up to the students of my age group. I will call it… Air Ritual. No that sounds lame… Maybe I'll ask Master to name it when I have the time.'
Of course this was only the case if Larian cast magic like a Third-Year Mage, and he would be completely exhausted right after.
'But I'm not learning to be mage, since my goal is to reach Master's status.'
Finally reaching this mini goal. Larian excited expression froze.
'Now what?'
He had used most of his knowledge as the author to confirm a theory and proved its practicality. But now he was left with nothing to work on, he exhausted his knowledge from his previous life.
'I didn't write this book with magic in mind. It was just a background prop to make the main character feel how drowned I felt. So there's no other cheat I could capitalize on.'
Larian looked down.
'Once again, I'm stuck… Like stagnant water.'
