Change of Pace

Larian had already left after he finished digging the grave of his Master. As he reentered the city, the surrounding people backed away from him with a terrified expression on each of their faces.

What they saw horrified them. A man completely wrapped up in bandages was walking the streets, at least he wore clothes over the bandages but the burns from the gaps showed the deep burns.

Larian no longer wore the Selarian Academy clothes, instead he now wears a long black trousers with a simple white sleeved shirt. A simple style to allow his wounds to not accumulate sweat.

'People used to avoid me because they look down on me, now they avoid me because of my looks.'

Larian felt an energy burning within him. The Dragon Stone was still within him, unrelenting as it's lifeforce seeps into Larian.

'Whatever Master fed to save me is gonna take a while. I wonder if my wounds would heal if the Stone is fully digested. For now, I'll have to cover my skin whenever possible to avoid scaring people.'

Larian was left with no money on the streets looking like a one armed hideous monster. He prospects is looking grim, but he had gained something which shined the most. He's unrelenting will.

'My target is Shinon the Heroine of the Blade. She lives in her homeland in the Forgotten Isle's and is a peak figure among humanity. I'll have to look realistically and put the redeeming Master on hold for now.

Larian looked once again at his stump of an arm which had closed up due to his rapid healing when he had died.

'My missing arm can't be attached since the wound has closed. I have to live with a disability again… Wait Lily had mentioned once that there was another bearer of the Ability Suppression that specialised in prosthetic limbs. He lived in the Orkan Valley. That has to be my top priority now.'

Making up his mind to head towards Orkan Valley Larian prepared to set off.

'But I have no money and no one would accept a one armed burned man wherever I go.'

Larian remembered reading about the map on the continent while he was a student.

'Can I just walk there? A carriage takes 2 weeks to reach the closest city of Orkan Valley, there I can start my search. If I run there I'd probably take a month.'

Thinking back to his resolve when he crawled back to his master's home, Larian didn't hesitate.

'Let's walk to Orkan Valley. I've been hunting in a forest for a long time, I can definitely survive the trip and I can still execute Shinki Style with one arm. And during the trip I can wait for the stone to digest, I'll wait for the stone to digest before making any changes'

Larian had decided, If the stone's digestion recovered his skin he would at least be able to hitch a ride. Otherwise he had hoped the digestion would give him some strength from the dragon to at least speed up the trip.

Larian headed out of the city's north gate and began his journey straight through the forest. He initially walked for an hour until he realised he wasn't even sweating so he picked up the pace and began jogging. But even then he still didn't break a sweat.

'My endurance had improved so much? Is this from the Dragon Stone? No wait, it hasn't digested yet. So is this my true strength after releasing my Ability Suppression?''

This physical power can be considered superhuman to most humans. His body after tempering under constant pressure of his trait had constantly improved itself endlessly.

'Is this the true strength of Ability Suppression? Should I suppress myself to train while I'm on the way? No let's test out my limits one time. I can wash these bandages after.'

Adding more strength to his steps Larian started to leave cracks on the dirt floor while he leaped great distance. He was now sprinting full force.

'I feel like an ostrich! I'm running so fast.'

Larian Kept up the speed for a long while until he started panting.

'I've been running since the sun was directly above me. Judging by how far it has moved… around 3 hours? And I'm not entirely exhausted, I have pushed myself to greater lengths before.'

This time Larian lost track of time while he ran. He ran until the sun set and it was past evening.

'Huff.. Huff.. This is it. I need to take a short break. And my bandages are soaked with sweat. Let's find a place to set up camp.'

Stolen story; please report.

During his run Larian had come across multiple animals. Now he had to track one to find sources of water.

He followed some traces and came across a boar drinking from a small pond, or a big puddle.

'Must've been from the rain a few days back. I'll set up camp here then.'

Larian assumed his stance from the shadows.

*Shing! … Click.

Larian had sent a clean slice towards the Boars neck and sheathed his blade in a slight fumble.

'I'm not used to putting the blade back without my left arm. But at least I sliced the pig's neck. Lets prepare dinner.'

Walking to the corpse, Larian realised the boar's head was a few meters separated from it's body. It had flown afar from the slash and the slash even continued and sliced a portion of the floor leaving a deep mark.

'... I thought I controlled my strength to a minimum already. Shit, the blood seeped into the puddle it was drinking from.'

Larian quickly set up camp, making a basic campfire and finding a clean spot to sleep in.

'My magic is still so little. Does harnessing a dragon's power only improve my physical aspects?'

Quite disappointed Larian used the minisque amount of magic to start a fire and started sanitising the bloodied water into something drinkable.

He used a makeshift bowl to scoop the water to boil over the campfire

When the boiling water cooled. He unwrapped his bandages and washed them with the liquid. The water quickly turned grey from the sweat wringed from the bandages.

Larian repeated this 4 times until the water was clear no matter how much he washed.

'There is a slight pinkishness to the bandages. Guess there's nothing I can do about the blood.'

Larian rewrapped himself and quickly prepared the meat to be roasted on a stick. He prepared a portion enough to feed 2 Normal people's appetite.

'I'm barely half full. Do I have to prepare 5 persons worth of meat?'

Larian eventually ate his fill and realised half of the meat from the boar edible parts were left.

'A whole pig can fill me for 2 meals. I have to smoke the rest tand preserve them over the fire until tomorrow morning. Wew, at least there won't be any wastage.

Larian slept in camp uninterrupted that morning. But he shifted in his sleep as a dark hue shimmered in his mind.

Within Larian's body an energy swirled. This energy condensed seemingly trying to form something.

A Magic Circuit and a Qi Heart both stemming from the same origin but different principles.

Magic that's cultivated form a Magic Circuit which Mages use to control the power drawn from the area in the environment.

Qi that flows around the human body which forms a foundation that the body draws strength from.

Both this energy encompasses Larians understanding of the supernatural powers of this world.

But living with a suppressed talent had closed him off from forming a stable foundation or magic circuit, as such his limit has always been the amount a human naturally recovers from their environment.

The Red Energy from the Dragon Stone formed a dark space within Larian but it continued to swirl and spread around his body. Larian twisted and turned in his sleep in pain as his body started to glow like circuits underneath were filled with lava.

The form of the new organ which doesn't belong under the constraints of Magic and Qi. This was Draconic Energy. The energy contained no will but intense rage could be felt as it flowed, rushed with intense spite as if to spread to every aspect of Larians body to ensure no corners are untouched by its influence.

As it burned, Larian's muscles and blood started to vibrate with Draconic Energy.

"ARGG!"

Finally allowed to awake, Larian brought back the Ability Suppression to bind himself, relieving the intense pain.

"What the fuck was that?"

The intense pain in the middle of the night spoiled his mood to sleep. Larian stood up in the moonlit sky and realised that he could see perfectly all round. He saw the creatures within the shadows and the insects under the soil. Everything around him was clear as if they were a part of his body.

But most clear of all, his body. His muscle within him was drawing in power from his surroundings.

'My entire body… is a Magic Circuit no wait. It's a Magic Core. This energy is not Magic or Qi. It feels more primordial, like the origin that all Magic or Qi draws from.'

Exhilarated with this new feeling Larian let his Magic loose. As it spread around his body the most distinct difference was a set of dark blue wings that formed on his back.

From his head horns cured into .This form was translucent and not solid, Larian could tell that this form was his most ideal state to control the world around him.

'Is this a Dragonic Form? Since I stopped its full transformation, this can only be considered a partial transformation.'

From within Larian had formed a foundation, it looked like the cave which the dragon had resided in. Blue Liquid started to condense slowly as it dripped onto the cave floor. This was where Larian can accumulate his own Magic.

From under the puddle that was forming within Larian's Foundation, a red worm with a single eye that opened from the centre blinked.

It exerted a similar madness that the Dragon inherited.

It quickly disappeared within the spacious cave to hide from the prying eyes of its host.

'Whatever my original Qi Foundation or Magic Circuit was like, now I have this. It's like a miniature world contained within me which produces its own magic. Is this what every Dragon feels like? Their source of immense physical power and chantless magic they are capable of?'

Larian controlled his surroundings and the stones around him lifted into the air according to his wishes. Some of them melted into lava while another emitted a dark radiance like a starry night.

'Raw power… It is no wonder Dragons are regarded as the pinnacle of magic. They are able to directly wield it as an extension of their body instead of controlling it like humans do.'

Larian's Magic and physic had been amplified, the world around him look so clear like he had a microscope that could look in every direction in a 100 meters radius around him.

'It feels like I've grown a new pair of eyes I never had. Is this a quirk of dragons? I'll call it Dragon Eyes for now.'

Larian was a little disappointed that he prematurely stopped his transformation

'If I had endured the pain, would I have inherited greater powers?'

Larian still thirsted for more power so this addition was a welcome, however he remembered his targets and compared himself to them.

'My physical prowess unsuppressed had been comparable to most elite of Selarian Academy. This Draconic Energy... Is it completely safe to use it?'

'But if dragons were so common back then, are there still people that harnessed the power of dragons until now?'

Thinking of the legends and the history taught in school, Larian could not remember a case where a Dragon Stone had manifested after its death.

Trying to probe the origins of this change, Larian explored his Foundation.

Within his foundation, something dark filled the air. Something sinister resided in this cave and he couldn't pinpoint the source. It made him uneasy.

'Whatever power is a boon. I'll take it all for the sake of bringing redemption to Master Shiro.'

Suppressing his foundation, Larian decided he would train his Dragon Form so he could better control it. He had no idea what the dark energy from his foundation was but he welcomed it.

The Control he exerted into the air fell silent. He returned to normal.

'The digestion left me sweating. I'll have to clean my bandages again.'

Beneath the cloth he realised that the exposed flesh was starting to show signs of healing, It was clotting quite abnormally. It was like stones were forming granules on his burns.

'Am I not human anymore? To what extent does this Dragon Stone influence my body?'

Larian washed and reapplied his bandages. He was awake in the middle of the night but he didn't feel tired anymore, instead he felt reinvigorated.

'Since I can continue, I'll pack up and move on. I have a long way to go.'

Larian hiked through the deep forest. Over hills and rivers.

As he leaped he found a new way to travel with his powers. Manifesting the wings he glided in midair like a parachute. This saved him a lot of effort and time. He was sure he was travelling faster than most carriages at this point.

He camped after two full days of travelling. It seemed the dragon powers had improved his retention to stay awake and focused now.

But unlike the first day no drastic changes had formed. There were no sudden pains in the middle of the night and his skin still grew small granites.

Within those two days, Larian had gotten used to his new powers. He could exert his half Dragon form after every rest and with it he

After a week Larian began to see multiple Peaks as he flew.

'I finally see the first city of Orkan Valley!'
