Warm~
Scrunching her eyes from morning light, Aurora twisted away to snuggle closer into the furry blanket. Chirping birds forced her closer to conscious thought, but it was just far too comfortable to wake up yet. An arm found some hold, and she pulled it into her embrace. It twisted a little, confusing her. The rest of her blanket, however, was much more unsettling as it shifted.
"EEEP!"
Twisting and pushing, Aurora flung herself into the air, away from whatever creater had her in its grip. Landing several feet from where she was, her frightened eyes took in the scene as she prepared to run. Yet, the thought itself quickly fled her mind.
"Wha...?"
Dumbfounded, she could only fall on her rear and shiver as every eye settled upon her. There was no danger, not from these creatures. Although it was slightly unnerving as several dozen pairs of small, innocent eyes of cute bunnies. Their heads twisting in curiosity rather than the normal fear one would expect from such creatures. A few closed the distance, while the others lost interest and wandered off.
"..eh? Why are you all rubbing against me? ...ehe, ahaha, it tickles~! No! Hwaa~ haa."
Confused, Aurora quickly stood and distanced herself from the bunnies, glaring at this newfound adversary. While they were all so fluffy, soft, and way too cute, the entire situation was just so odd. Why was she surrounded by fuzzy creatures at all?
SHWOOO~
A gentle breeze caressed her while thinking that, causing an unexplained shiver at unfamiliar feelings. One of the more obvious feelings was how her hair fluttered. Not just on her head, but on a strange extention from her backside. Rather, two extentions, now that she paid attention. More strikingly was the breezy feeling all around her legs, going even up to her... Memories of crazy events resurfaced as two small hands instantly pressed against her most important area, causing another deep full-body shiver at the confirmation.
She gulped. Right... Death, Goddess, Reincarnated, Kitsune, and Female.
Closing her eyes, Aurora - right, I'm Aurora now - took a deep calming breath. Then released. Aurora, Female, and Kitsune. A Tsuki Kitsune. Or is it Kitsune Tsuki? The heck is Tsuki?!
Shaking her head brought an itch to her head. So she scratched. Then stopped and blinked as her head twitched. Her hands came back in front of her face for a long searching look, even as she turned them about. They were small. Thin and delicate fingers replaced what she - not he - was used to. Those thin appendages slowly rose back to the top of her head, easily finding the area that twitched. Soft and gently, two fingers flowed up to a point, then back down, following the furry extension poking out of her head. Then they found the other.
"Hwa!" They flicked as a ticklish sensation overcame her. She shook her head, catching some hair between her fingers, which felt much thinner and silkier than any human hair, and very similar to the feel of her ears. Ears... Fox ears? They are, right? I have fox ears... I'm a Kitsune, so of course I have fox ears... The she looked back and blushed at the sight of twin bushes of fur fluttered about. Tails... I have two. Kinda, no, really cute tails.
Despite ther being two, both were really fluffy. Thin at the base, where they poked out from under her skirt, thickening several fold in fluffyness at about three-fourths the length, before quickly tapering into a small point at the end. Just like the waist length hair that kept swaying into her sight when she moved, both tails had fur whiter than doves, and far more beautiful with a distinct shine that almost seemed reflect as if pink.
Swoosh~
Another breeze cuased her to shiver. Not only had she been reincarnated as something strange, but everything had become much more sensitive. While it wasn't much, the sliky summer dress was brushing against her skin, caressing her with smooth gestures. It wasn't only that, but everything.
Green and brown, while prevelant in the surrounding forest and similar to what she had seen before, were far more vibrant and diverse. Then there were flowers in the distance that would have been impossible to spot before. And she could smell them, even from such a distance! Smell and differentiate which were where. All it took was a slight change in where her nose was and a few sniffs. It was the same for animals too. The ones at a distance, while moving and harder to locate by mere smell, she could still see and hear them to be certain. Though it wasn't as obvious as smell, her hearing could pick up the chattering of squirrel-like creatures up in the trees dozens of meters away. That wasn't possible before, was it?
A much more vicious smell caught her while exploring the change, and Aurora turned swiftly.
Only, nothing was there. Rather, what she smelled was there, but not what was expected. Blood and a few chewed bones were a few meters from her, along with torn clothes. But the two bodies that might have existed, that should have existed, that had been there...
Why are they gone?! No, they were.. eaten? Wha..?
Staring for a few moments solved nothing more than that. Two men she killed to save herself. A couple of kidnappers that had probably done horrible deeds. That she had killed. But...
Why don't I feel that bad about it? No, I don't like it, but it's not like it's upsetting me much. Not like... yesterday.
The events quickly flooded her mind, but it was more like regular memories than the horror she thought it was at the time. Shaking her head, Aurora gave up wondering. It might have had something to do with the 'Adaptable' blessing, but that wasn't quite what she asked for.
Wait, what about my status? Do I gain anything from that? Eh? Nothing appeared..?
Aurora furrowed her brows in confusion at the lack of blue. "Do I have to say it out loud? Status!"
...Again, nothing appeared? Stupid goddess! The heck?! Did you twist everything I asked for?!
"Grrrr~ Hwa?!" D-Did I just growl?!
Again, Aurora could only sigh after the slight amazement dissipated. "...Haa~ Just ignore it. Ignore everything that's changed. It's no point in getting worked up abuot it, or even worrying. Nothing will come of complaining about the cute voice of a fox-human hybrid thingy talking to herself."
And now I know I've gone crazy...
"But, what do I do now..?" Looking around again, she could only see forest. It was definitely as beautiful as it was the first time she thought about it. But there was no visible land marks. No direction that stood out. Rather, what did she need to do?
"No, what do I want to do? I should have fun, right? Nnn~" Her head tilted for a moment before looking down at the soft gass coming up to her knees. After a moment of indecision, she sat down, and laid back to stare at the beautiful tree tops. Light was leaking through the leaves, and little animals were scurrying around thick limbs. Not long after, the kitsune child felt fuzz cuddling up against a leg. Then another. And another. Glancing down comfirmed the small bunnies of snowy fur having taken to cuddling up against her.
Cute... but shouldn't they be foxes? Mn~ They're comfortable. Now, what should I do? Where should I start?
The goddess reincarnated me with blessings.
I was unique
I was put to sleep with my blessings.
As asked
Kidnappers took me from my home and hurt me.
I'm important? No, it's probably because my blessings make me naturally desirable?
My memories of this childhood are either gone or suppressed.
Head pain when I woke up. Amnesia?
No knowledge of this world, where I am, who I am, or where I should go.
Just travel around and learn?
How do I earn a living? No shelter. No food. No water. No company.
My body might not need it..?
While there might not have been much to think about, each question was actually difficult. Each could have led her to a different path. She had a home, but where was that? She had a life, but what happened to allow her to be kidnapped? Was it even safe to return? How would she even go about doing this? If she was kidnapped, were the people who she lived with even alive? Would there be a place for her to return to? How long would it even take?
So many questions, and so little answers. Without knowledge of the world, the races, societies, or anything that matters, the only real choice left was to simply explore. To travel the world and learn what she could. And if there was a way to learn of her origins, would they even be important without her childhood memories?
Do I... even care?
That was the real question...
An odd, yet slightly familiar pressure forced her thoughts back to the now. Leaning up, she focused on the forest around her. It was so vibrant with life. She could almost feel it... Or maybe she could. Her new body was so different that it was impossible to know as of yet. Although there was one thing that was the same... Her face flushed a furious red.
Pee... I gotta pee.
Aurora stood and glanced around, only pausing to stare at the adorable bunnies scattering before looking for a small ditch or some kind of... And, why does that matter? I'm alone out here!
Gathering her courage, the reborn girl walked to a nearby tree trunk, shifted to place it behind her, and squatted. Almost immediately, Aurora felt the need to release, but her eyes widened at the realization of cloth being in the way. Scrambling furiously with limbs she was slightly unaccustumed to, her skirt was lifted, and Aurora yanked the cloth hugging her hips to her knees.
"Ah! Hwaaa~" The pressure released, and a pleasant release quickly relaxed her tense body.
Tha-... That was... Her eyes refocused as it ended, followed by an even fiercer rush of heat into her cheeks than before. Not only was it nothing like she remembered, but it as much more pleasurable. Because of her increased sensitivity? Or her changed sex? Or-
DON'T THINK ABOUT IT! Shaking her head, Aurora started to pull the fabric back in place, but instantly stopped, flustered, with tears starting to form in her eyes. Awa, a-ah... It's d-dripping... Stupid body! Stupid Goddess!
Looking around, she could only see grass within reach. Even if the leaves would have been better, there wasn't any on the ground nor a branch low enough to gather one from. Taking a breath, she gathered herself, and did what needed to be done...
.
.
.
Walking through the grass wasn't anywhere near as unpleasant as it had been in her previous life. It wasn't much different, but it didn't bother her like it should have. There were some weeds that looked scratchy, yet they didn't do more than slide off her bare legs when stepping on or brushing passed them. Aurora checked the soles of her feet, and they were surprisingly as soft and smooth as her hands. No calluses had even formed, yet she was sure her body had been running barefoot over broken wood the day before. That should have left scratches. Right?
Why does the cloth have to cling so closely? Embarrassing...
Even stranger was that her dress was near perfect in appearance. After being stuffed into a wooden crate for who knows how long, drenched in water, running through a forest filled with catchy bushes and trees, sleeping in the grass, and coverd in who knows how many cute bunnies, there was not so much of a blemish. The bodyguard-idiot had even kicked her. Shouldn't there be tears and stains?
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
And it's flat against me. So weird. But it's soft, an- "STOP THINKING ABOUT IT!" Red faced, Aurora huffed a few breaths, and started forwards again. "Just a change in anatomy. It came with the new life. Get used to it." And the cute voice! It's YOURS! "Think about the clothes. They are not normal!"
The reincarnated child trudged on, pushing herself through even taller grass.
Wait, am I going deeper into the forest? Looking around, it wasn't exactly obvious. The grass was definitely taller, but that wasn't exactly a determination. The trees were thicker, taller, and a bit more sparse. But that didn't mean she wasn't at the edge of a village. Or something.
Awah, i,i-it's crawling up my... "Clothes! Focus on the dress!" It really was strange. White as her hair, and a bit plain, yet definitely suited for her specific cute appearance. A tight waist, with straps cris-crossing in the front, over either shoulder, and down to the back. It had a ribbon wrapped just above the hips, tied into a butterfly bow bigger than both her hands, that felt like it laid just above where her tail starts poking out of her butt, and seemed to hold the upper-thigh length skirt from fluttering up too much.
Something both her tails and the wind apparently liked doing to display her white panties. Those apparently had a tie on the back, so rather than scrunching up into a tail, or tails, it was gently held in place by them. Though, they also had the effect of shifting the cloth, pulling them up in- STOP! YOU'RE A GIRL! GET OVER IT!
Aurora's took another deep breath in attempt to quell the heat searing her face. Okay, no clothes. Don't think about your body either. Just... What else is there? The goddess took the window after one use... That thing should have been there to see where I can improve. No use worrying about that either... So~ Magic?
"Kyaouwch!" A dainty hand snapped up to Aurora's nose as she rubbed it, deliberately ignoring the tears brought by running face-first into a rock wall. Eh... eh!? Rock?
Glancing left, she could see it grew taller into the distance. To her right, it shrunk slightly, but was still several times taller than her by the time it was too far for her sight to make out. "That's a loooon wall. Is this a cliff face?"
Looking back and forth didn't really determine much. There were two possible directions, but where to go? Right would likely lead to a quicker way around it, but probably stopped within the forest. However, if she followed the wall as it got taller... Would it lead into a canyon? Would there be a settlement underneat..? It wouldn't be strategically safe, but maybe there could be a waterfall? If it went far enough, there was likely to be something. It was a definite direction that would likely lead to something.
"Left it is~ Aha!" A little happier that she has an actual trail to follow - it's a wall - Aurora skipped on with a smile. Which gradually turned flat after a few minutes. "So~ bored. What was I thinking about before smashing my nose..? Magic! Right!"
With the blessings, she knew it should be easy for her to use magic. However, both attempts exploded in her face - one literally!. It was like the little spheres of water were heavily condensed. The first was enough to shatter the wagon apart - how did I SURVIVE that? ..Did I? - and soaked everything around to muddy oblivion. The second pierced her attacker and exploded out his back like... an exploding shotgun of water? A literal tonn or more of it?
How much mana had been used to create the attacks? It wasn't much in comparison to what she had, but it was definitely more than needed. The first time was basically the amount in her hand, maybe less. Maybe a fingers' worth in the second attempt? Both had ended up being so much water though..? What would any other magic turn out as if such small amounts of mana turned out like that?
"Mnn~ couldn't I test it out now..?" Stopping, Aurora looked left, and into the forest, but there weren't any bunnies in sight to worry about. Lifting a finger, she focused on that strange internal feeling from before. It almost felt like she was using sixth sense - probably is... - to find her mana. To find a the small area in her right hands. In her index finger. At the tip...
The little magician split that part from her regular flow, forcing it out a few centimeters from the tip, and concentrated. Thinking of water, it's structure, of her expelled mana altering into that form.
Almost happily, the water followed through with her intentions, quickly gathering into a sphere. It rapidly expanded, getting larger the more time passed and mana transformed. Biggerthan her hand. Higher than her body. Larger than a bear.
Wide eyed, Aurora gulped at the enormous sphere of water. Uwaa~ It's larger than a car!
"...But what do I do now? Shoot it..?" A moment later, it felt like something snapped between her and the water.
SPLASHhhHhh
"Hyaaaa! C-COLD!" Before she could even react, the large sphere of water flattened into the ground, flowing over the ground and her shins, splashing against the rock face behind her, and drenching the majority of her backside.
Feeling a cold weight holding her tails, Aurora shifted them around either side to see them half soaked as well.
"HnnN! My tails... Haa~" She allowed her tails to sag, her head following along. "Am I clumsy now? Why do these things keep happening...?"
"Ah? Awa?!" After a moment, the soaked child realized her feet were sinking into the grass. Twisting, she pulled a foot free and stepped forward, quickly pulling the other out. With much more force pressing her front foot down, it quickly sunk deeper, shifting her balance as the mud tightened its grip. "Kyaaa!"
Splat!
For a moment, Aurora simply laid there. Face first in the muddy grass. Only for a moment. Both arms quickly moved to her sides and pushed down, lifting her up so she could take a breath. Tears gathered in her eyes as the muddied girl glared at the ground. "Tempt fate... Of course I had to tempt fate..."
Thankfully, it didn't take too much work to get free of the muddy grass. At least, now that she was being careful about it. Who wants to fall in mud again? Still, the soil was soft for it to get so squishy as fast as it did. It would be amazing farming soil. She thought so, at least, but Aurora was definitely not a farmer. Nor did she care to learn.
"Mud... Why did it have to be mud? I already felt dirty." - Even though my dress was clean... "So dirty.... Why did I have to use water? Why, WHY, didn't I try earth? Maybe magic could clean me? But with my success so far..." It would probably skin me or something! NO THANKS!
Slumping herself forward, still following the wall of rock - or is that granite?, Aurora just continued on while hoping for a waterfall. Or a village. A hot bath would be nice. Just want it all off! Why does it feel so much worse than I ever remember? Cliff... Cliff... Wall of rock... Ewww~ It's drying! Need to get it off.. Magic can, right? No. Just use more water, right? But that's what got me like this in the first place... Need a waterfall. Just need to find-
Aurora froze, blinking wildly as a thought hit her. She shifted her eyes up to the wall beside her, staring at the near hundred meter height it had grown into. Then down at her hands, sprinkled in drying mud. It might work... Each time I create a massive amount, but...
Stepping back, Aurora focused on her mana again. Like before, she separated a tiny amount in her finger, and pushed it out at a point. Thinking about each use, there had been some obvious differences. Both the first and second had used small spheres, while the third had simply created a large amount. However, the first and third never moved, using all the mana available for only creating water within a space, while the second only had half transformed into water. The first two were naturally compressed as they were created. WIth nothing left, the first simply exploded with extreme pressure. The second, however, had mana available, and used, for a secondary purpose.
Aim high above, at the cliff. Same amount of mana as the third try. Focus half into a condensed ball of water. The other half to maintain it and shoot it away.
Swoooo~splsh! Ssshhhhhhhh
"Naha, ehehee~!" A small giggle escaped Aurora's lips as a short, but heavy rain fell upon her, washing away most of the dirt that had covered her front. However, as she glanced at the brown running down her arms, the white dress, the immaculately clean dress, caught her attention. Not a speck of mud could be seen on it. Even the water from the short rain staining her dress was quickly dissipating from it.
As if laughing at her.
IT'S FREAKING SELF CLEANING! SMACK
"...Ow. Note to self: don't face-palm. It hurts!" Still, it made one wonder if self-cleaning clothes were common.
With a further shrug and sigh, the little kitsune quickly walked on, this time before the mud could properly suck her feet in. And for a good reason. There will NOT be a second image of my face left in mud anywhere around here!
Aftera while, the clean - still feel some dirt... - girls' resolute steps slowed as it became obvious that there likely wouldn't be a village, or anything, for a while. No village, no waterfall, no anything... I'm geting bored~ Maybe I can practice magic while walking..?
Aurora nearly smacked herself again for stupidity. Is it because of my past life? Or my current self? Mnn~? Magic!
Bringing her finger forward again, she focused on a smaller amount, the smallest she could manage, and pushed out the separated energy. Amazingly, it stayed in front of her finger while the curious child kept walking. It was disconneted, yet obviously still in her control. Neat... But, maybe something other than water..? Lightning is dangerous. Fire more so. Wind... Earth could be interesting? Or maybe just ice? Ice...
Instead of just converting it a set amount of mana, she imagined a shape. A spike of ice. Then a structure. While is fluid, ice is basically crystal, and has over a dozen forms. It didn't matter which yet, so she just focused on filling the area with supercooled water that quickly froze as the shape flowed into existence. It only took a short instant to reveal the existence of her desired creation. After that, the leftover mana... Awawa?! There's so much!
Even with the tiny amount, it almost seemed like none of it had been used to make the spike. It was only about the size of index finger, with a length comparable to her forearm. It wasn't big, but fet freezing cold. Despite being a few centimeters away, there was a slight chill floating off of it. And it felt like she could make dozens with the remaining mana.
But... I don't need the rest?
So far, Aurora felt as if there had been a mental hold of any mana she separated from herself. Now that she was looking for a way to just 'let go' of it, the feeling that she could surfaced. It was a feeling similar to when she wanted to release a completed spell. If it wasn't so cold, she would check the ice itself before doing so, but that obviously wasn't happening. She wanted to know what would happen to the remaining mana.
CRACK*SHIK*ACKLE
"KYA!" Jumping back, Aurora quickly distanced herself from rapidly expanding ice that had been her spike. Not an second after the mana was released, the ice spike lazily feell, spearing the ground while expanding rapidly in size, until it was at a height and width comparable to Aurora herself.
"Waa~? Aha... That obviously wasn't a good idea.." The startled Kitsune just stood in fascination as the ice. It took a few moments for her to make sense of what had happened, and felt like hitting herself again when she did. When she formed the spike from mana, it was still connected to it. Having used some to create the spike, there was something like a command connected to it. After being released, the rest followed the command that had been linked with the ice spike.
Aurora expected it to dissipate, honestly, but that was likely the only outlet available to mana that still had connection to a spell; enhancing the spell. Throwing off the unexpected situation, the finally dry kitsune continued on her self-given path while thinking of what had happened. Of what it could mean.
Would that happen to any spell that was fed excess mana? Or did it only work that way due to it being from the same source? Was the size not part of the spell? It stayed the same shape, just much larger. It might have been colder too? She glanced back without stopped, and there was frost covering the grass near the large crystal. But that didn't actually answer her question.
Shaking her head free of unanswerable questions, Auroa brought her finger up again. Despite the attempt to bring forth even less mana, it felt the same as her last attempt. Holding a sigh, the focused child worked on another spike of ice. However, this time with a structure pre-designed in her mind. Even though it was a short fall, the giant spike had actually cracked. Certain structures of various elements could even become stronger than steel, yet stay lighter due to their elemental weight. Most of these structures are not naturally occuring. Carbon Nano-Tubes would be one example.
But Aurora was using ice. An element with more than a dozen different structures the molecules could form from only itself. Not exactly studious in her previous life, she didn't know each and every one. Rather, Aurora had only read things of interest. A theoretical structure of ice that would be stronger, yet multitudes lighter? That was something interesting.
And so the ice formed. Her eyes had a spark of excitement as they gazed at, through, the translucent crystal, perfection compared to the snowy white of its predecessor. It floated in front of her finger, waiting, begging, for a target. And, unlike before, she didn't plan on having it blow up in her face...
Yet, the magically gifted girl didn't want to simply shoot it with the remaining mana; she didn't want to create a sonic boom... Unfortunately, even if the spike took more than the last, it was still only about a tenth. Strangely, any mana she expelled seemed to expand. Or maybe decompress? Which made it MUCH easier to manipulate outside her body.
...HOW much mana do I HAVE?! That thought was a bit mind boggling. Even during that thought, Aurora pressed about the same amount used to create the ice into an effect that would act to force it to fly like a bullet, while hoping it wouldn't immediately shoot off.
When it didn't, she gave a small sigh of relief. Is it a good thing for a child to sigh so much..?
Following that, various attempts to separate the excess mana were made. She couldn't draw it back into her body. It wouldn't split off from the current spell. Other various ideas were thought of and rejected or failed. The only thing she could think of was to add more commands to the spell. However, as soon as she started adding a 'rotate' command - like a bullet - another idea popped up. One that made her feel stupid. Again...
A moment later, Aurora had three more spikes of ice floating next to her original. It was strangely easier to form them than the first. What caught her attention, however, was that the mana remaining was less than expected. Does it take energy to maintain a spell? ...That should be obvious!
Unlike before, Aurora was a lot more excited.Stopping her slow walk, she aligned her spears with a tree, and took one last glance at the attack she had created. A magic attack. Her magic spell. And if I'm right, it should almost be like tanks shooting!
And they were released at a tree several dozen meters away.
Aurora watched, but could only see the slightest of blurs between her and the tree. She listened, but the most she could hear was the slightest swish of the wind. Even as they hit the tree, there was only a near silent sound that was a mix of stabbing and brushing dirt. However, it was such a short sound that it was almost missed. The result could almost be called dull in its result.
If there weren't four holes that had been bored straight through the tree...
Not quite a tank bullet... Aurora stood still for a moment, before giggling to herself in success. It didn't quite prove that physics were exactly the same in her new life, but it did show there would be applications for her knowledge. If it was possible to make ice that could pierce through wood like a warm knife through butter, then there would be some incredible things in her future.
A smile decorated the child's face as she continued walking along the cliffside for the rest of the day, practicing various forms of water and ice magics. Her good mood only brightened near the end of the evening when the the cliff opened up its face for the first time.
"Finally! Something besides wall! Only a cave... but it's better than staying out in the open where it can rain."
