18th Entry - Challenge

18th Entry - Challenge

The fifth level is similar to the fourth; however, it doesn’t have a village. I regret not taking provision before getting there. I still have a few things taken from the ogre’s reserve; it seems that getting food into the inventory conserves it very well. I estimate it could last me 2 days, but I’ll have to boil some fresh water since my bottles are empty. I rush through the bosses of this level as well. I have no trouble defeating anything in my path with my overpowered techniques. I beat a giant snake in a swamp, destroy an army of goblins, and beat a witch at the top of her tower. I collect the 3 needed key fragments in one day. It is almost night, so I look for a place to spend the night. I find a stone house in the woods and get a familiar notification: “you have entered a sanctuary; mobs won’t be able to enter this area.” I take a good rest in this safe space.

The next day, I reach the 6th floor. There is still no trace of civilization, and the mobs are starting to hit harder. I defeat an army of armored zombies, but their giant lord gives me a bit of trouble. I beat him inside the ruins of his collapsed castle. I loot a second key fragment from a mountain troll but get hurt during the fight. I take a big lunch break and heal myself. Since I’m almost out of provision, I decide to rush the next boss. I enter a strange maze inside a forest. Mist emanates from the vegetation making it difficult to see. After searching my way for several minutes, I encounter something. That’s a wraith! I prepare myself for a fight, but the demon screams at me. I immediately feel a massive pain in my head; I fall to the ground and hallucinate horrors. I can't do anything; the pain intensifies until it is unbearable, then it stops. I open my eyes; I am not in the maze anymore. Everything is black.

I ended up in the void again. I reflect on what happened; I died as quick as I defeated those bosses. I have some regrets, but I know I wasn’t prepared for this. I process all this for a few minutes, then fall asleep. I wake up, still in the dark. I spend a few hours trying to figure a way to protect myself from what happened. Was it a sound attack? Or a psychic spell? I have an idea that could keep me safe from sound attacks: since sound waves are propagated through the air, I could prevent them from moving. But I can’t find a way to avoid psychic attacks; I haven’t seen any spell like that before. There’s the magician robe, though, but I can’t change my equipment while in combat. I search for a solution for another hour but don’t find any.

Time passes slowly, and it gets really dull here. I’m getting bored to death and frustrated with being stuck here. I try to count the minutes, but it’s challenging to keep track. I go back to my sleep and meditation routine and try to keep my sanity. I sleep, meditate, sleep, meditate. The 3 days are painfully passing. After what appears to be an eternity, I finally wake up.
