Chapter 4 - The Marquise of Tortured Thieves

Chapter 4 - The Marquise of Tortured Thieves

I gawked at the feather for a good minute before picking it up and examining it. The feather was completely pure silver and extremely light. The feather reflected the moonlight and and seemed to distort the light around it.

Whoosh

The breeze made the feather fluther in my hand.

Me: “Shit the Andromalius’s”

I had so many questions that needed answers but I ended up putting the silver feather in my pockets, shoving everything to do with Lailah out of my mind for my own survival.

Once more I started to move in the direction of the Andromalius estate . After an uneventful 15 minutes I arrived at the main road leading up to the large country mansion.

The mansion was surrounded by a large metal fence, 10 meters in height. The mansion itself was an old styled villa with a gothic style roof. If you looked further I you could see a winding valley leading up to a large crypt like building going into the face of the mountain. The gardens in front of me were filled with white lilies, Chrysanthemums and Gladiolus.

Me: “whistle*.”

Quite the unimpressive mansion, for a lower class noble, the house looked deserted and no guards were posted out front. The mansion looked like it would pass for even a haunted house, I wondered if anyone was even home.

Me : “I am here to see the Marquise Andromalius, open the gates!”

The gate opened, the metal hinges screaching against one another. As I stood rooted in spot surprised of the quick response.

After recovering my wits I started walking towards the mansion. I walked past the flowers and continues along the paver towards the house. As I approached I could see  a man dressed in a black waistcoat coming out to greet me.

Man: “Hello my good stranger, my name is Gilles de Rais, Marquise Andromalius’s head butler, what business do you have with the count?”

Me: “My name is, Aleam Arch Diabolous, fourth prince of the Diabolous royal family. I have come to ask the Marquise something….. personal.”

The head butler looked me in the eyes and responded.

Head butler: “The Marquise, is currently unavailable but if I may offer your majesty, to stay as you await the lord.”

I nodded, I wasn’t in the position to complain.Even if I wasn’t going to see the Marquise today, being able to stay out of harms way was better than nothing.

Me: “That is fine, please prepare a room for me than.”

Head butler: “Then please make your way to the saloon, your room will be prepare shortly.”

I stepped into the mansion to make my way to the saloon, but the moment I did I was shocked. The entire interior of the Marquise’s mansion was decorated in precious stones and metals. The floor was made from some sort of platinum, the walls had a layers of gold. If you looked closely enough you would see antiques on display encrusted with diamonds and emeralds, rubies and sapphires.

Head butler: “Sir, this way please”

Me: “Ah yes coming…”

I stopped staring at the luxurious decor and followed the butler. He lead me down the corridor to a well lit study.

Head butler: “Sir, may you please wait here until your room is prepared for the night”

Me: “Alright.”

As I waited for the room to be prepared I noticed that the study was filled with a variety of very expensive and foreign items. As you looked closer you would notice that many small details made the room very luxurious. There was platinum floors, and with small encrusted jewels. If you looked at the furniture you would be able to see that they were made out of a very expensive demonic trees; the red mahogany. The couches were engraved with small flowers and tree patterns, likewise the bookshelves in the study were made out of the same re mahogany. On closer inspection the red mahogany book shelves were filled with treasure maps and atlases. This was surprising, because the world as large as it was was hard to map because the many factions existing. These factions such as the beast tribes and the humans as well as the many demi races would prevent exploration by persecuting other races.

I waited half an hour before a maid came into the study and brought me to my room. I wondered to myself why I didn’t see the head butler but, it was likely that he had other duties to attend to.

Maid: “Here you are sir. This will be you lodgings for the evening, please make yourself comfortable”

Me: “Thank you miss.”

Maid: “You are welcome.”

After replying to me the maid immediately walked off, shutting the door to the hall behind her.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marquise Andromalius: “Gilles de Rais, who the hell is that brat in the guest room! I didn’t order you to take in any stray dogs off the streets.”

Gille de Rais: “Sir that so called ‘person’ in the guest room is his royal highness Aleam Arch Diabolous, although I do have my doubts.”

Marquise Andromalius: “hmf… impossible that miscreant is just a poser how could you have been fooled by such a phony. although he has some resemblance to the royal family he has no signs of any of the royal markings; no horns tail, wings, nada, zilch, zilpe.”

Gille de Rais: “But sir-”

Marquise Andromalius: “Gille de rais, I am quite angry, to let another common thief come into my household. I still have to punish the group of idiots who came yesterday. But that is of no consequence, Gilles de Rais; I shall give this young miscreant a chance, because you have advocated him as such.”

Gille de Rais: “Sir you cannot mean-”

Marquise Andromalius: “Shall we send him there, to the tomb of the so called ancients, the duty of this house is to guard the many treasure which sleep there, if he takes even one both you and him shall be punished.”

Gille de Rais looked at Marquise Andromalius and although not fully trusting the young boy in the guest room decided to accept the Marquise’s proposal. He thought to himself that the boy did not even move although he was left in the room of many valuables, nor did he try to steal any of the precious items in the hall like any of the other poor thieves masquerading as important officials.

Gille de Rais: “If you say so sir to the labyrinth he will go.”
