Chapter 8- The arrogant heroes

I didn't realize how long it takes to edit. I've gone through the first 3 chapters and are working my way up. I've made a few small changes to previous chapters, but only grammatical ones. I haven't had a chance to go through this one, but I've done my best and will edit by the end of the day then hopefully touch up chapter 4.

---

Sun Jiao followed Xu Rong down the crowded hallway. The crowd stuck to the edges as the center was reserved for those of a higher class. He was worried about how to comfort her as she continued to carry a depressed and worried look, but couldn't figure out what to do.

He hadn't had much experience with women in his previous life and his only girlfriend had been a tomboy one-of-the-guys kind of girl so there were none of the usual games women play. Sun Jiao frowned at the thought of her and continued to reflect on their now-over relationship mostly to distract himself from the current problem.

She had been great at sports and would continue to excel even after graduating high school. She was so good that she got a scholarship to a top level college, one which he had no hope of getting into, and she was excited to go. As the end of their last year in high school approached Sun Jiao had decided to break up with her. He knew he was just dragging her down and that he wouldn't be able to keep up. They could try a long distance relationship, but she enjoyed living life in the moment and wouldn't be able to spend time on the relationship. Eventually they would drift apart but she was too kind and would stay loyal to him out of guilt.

He had seen it coming since the start of his last year and had long come to terms with it so her memory wasn't a source of sadness even though he only broke it off a couple weeks ago.

'Perhaps that was selfish of me to hold on to her for too long, but I'm glad for the time we spent together.'

With that thought he focused again on the girl in front of him.

'Perhaps it's selfish for me to keep her as well.'

He was about to speak, but stopped as they had arrived at their destination. She bowed and gestured for him to enter the door held open by male servant.

When he entered the room he was shocked to see the it only had 3 walls with the 4th an open wall to the arena stage just below him. There was a faint shimmer instead of glass, but it was hardly noticeable and would give a great view of the upcoming fights. He looked around and saw a few other such boxes on the walls half of which were open without a shimmer and the other half closed off by a much brighter shimmer.

'Must be one way glass. Well magic, but same thing I guess.'

Above the boxes were the common seats which were packed full of people; clearly an event of some importance was taking place.

There were 3 servants in the room a man, the one who had held the door, stood next to the closed door. The other two were decent looking women that stood to on each side of five comfortable looking chairs. The middle chair was slightly larger and more comfortable looking and matched the colors he was wearing while the others were just black and gold.

Mustering all his confidence Sun Jiao walked to the middle chair and sat down.

"Would you li-like something to drink m-m-master?"

Sun Jiao turn his head to face Xu Rong who was standing as still as possible waiting for his reply.

"No I'm fine. Sit."

Xu Rong hesitated for a moment looked around and then fell to the floor; sitting as quickly as possible.

'Did she just sit on the floor? Why would she do that if there is a perfectly good chair? Well fatman had said she wasn't too bright. I'll try again, but how to do it without embarrassing her and staying arrogant. Hmm.'

Thinking a bit longer Sun Jiao decided to be as vague as possible so as not to call attention to her mistake and also show that he arrogantly expected her to understand him which shouldn't be too hard as there wasn't any where else to sit.

"Xu Rong, I didn't mean there."

A look of surprise at her name was followed by a look of fear which caused her to bow her head while scooting forward saying "Sorry Master!" over and over again until she reached his feat. She then lowered her head and continued to stay on the floor.

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

'Maybe that's what the fatman meant. He probably thought she was so stupid I'd lose my patience and kill her. One more try.'

"Not on the floor."

With an "EEP!" Xu Rong stood immediately and began too look around in a panic. After a few seconds she turned to look out the arena window and saw something that caused her to freeze. Looking back and forth between another box and Sun Jiao she became more worried with each look until tears formed in her eyes. Gathering her courage she turned around and sat on Sun Jiao's lap.

'Ahhh! I understand. She's allergic to chairs. That must be it. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH HER. Whatever. At this point I'd just be making a scene and it's not like I wont enjoy a cute girl sitting my lap. I can't see a probl-'

A chill running down Sun Jiao's spine interrupted his thoughts. The door had just opened and a breeze that came through the door carried with it a familiar smell of flowers.

Turning his head slowly he saw Sun Qing standing in the door.

She had a bright smile on her face that was locked into place and the eye just above her beauty mark was twitching.

'Uh oh. This isn't good. I need to take control of this situation...How would her brother do it?'

Thinking quickly as possible Sun Jiao decided on the most arrogant solution he could think of; ignore it!

Sun Jiao looked away from her and directed his attention to the arena while trying desperately to remain calm.

"Big brother."

'SHIT.'

"Who's that?"

'SHIT SHIT SHIT. What do I do?'

It felt like time slowed down as Sun Jiao ran through hundreds of different possible solutions and couldn't think of a single answer that would work. Running out of possibilities he began to see Xiaobo's annoying little demon face floating around in his head repeating the words he had said.

"You're the second prince of the emperor. Anything you say goes. If you say something and someone doesn't listen you kill them."

'I can't kill her though!'

"That little girl right there hears you ask or hesitate and she'll kill you in the drop of a hat."

'I need to think of something quick!!!'

"you're a whiny bitch aren't you?"

'That isn't helpful at all!'

"Read the room next time yeah?"

'That isn't either...wait maybe...'

"don't act scared of your sister no matter what."

'I think I understand'

"unlike you, hehe, I'd be more hands on, hehe. That was a hint by the way."

'THAT'S IT.'

Time rushed back almost as quickly as Sun Jiao's hands rushed forward.

As if they were legendary heroes they fearlessly began to explore the labyrinths, hills, and valleys before them. These heroes were risking their lives but they bravely pressed on and there was no resistance. Who could possibly prevent the heroes from completing their quest? Certainly not the world that they explored, but that did not mean there was no danger. In fact, that danger was very real.

However this would not deter them for the memories of the treasures discovered and excitement of those new discoveries would forever be with the heroes even in their death. To these heroes life and death did not matter; they thought themselves invincible and broke through all barriers while looking down on those who did not have the courage.

This too was a form of arrogance. The arrogance of youth.

For all heroes must die even if they think themselves invincible. Fate cannot be avoided and time will continue to flow bringing them closer and closer to the their end.

----------------------------------------

Ahhhh the arrogance of youth. I remember when I was young. Not that I'm old. I just remember when I was young as if it was yesterday!

How about that ex! Tomboy and super athletic! Short hair is best by the way. Also would you believe the sport she was best at is probably combat related! What a coincidence! Maybe some day she'll be relevant or maybe not. I'm betting though that an arrogant Sun Jiao could rule earth if he does go back. Would she recognize him in his previous body!?!  She doesn't have a name yet, but I was thinking "Red Herring" might be a good name :D
