Chapter 8

The plan was audacious, bordering on reckless. But with limited options and dwindling hope, Eren, Lucy, and L decided a bold move was their best chance. Their objective: reach the passage marked by the celestial symbol, a potential gateway back to their world, located on the far side of the arena – unfortunately, right next to the monstrous creature's pit.

Lucy, fueled by a desperate hope, poured over the markings, her celestial knowledge offering a glimmer of possibility. She identified a sequence that resembled a glyph for illusion – a temporary distraction that could potentially blind or confuse the creature. However, its effectiveness against such a behemoth remained uncertain.

Eren, the ever-intrepid scout, volunteered to navigate the treacherous path towards the passage. Armed with just a makeshift dagger fashioned from a wolf's claw, his mission was to locate a safe passage around the creature pit, minimizing the risk of a direct confrontation.

L, the strategist and self-proclaimed "map master," meticulously studied the remaining symbols. He identified several sequences that seemed to control platforms and sections of the arena floor. Their functionality remained a mystery, but they held the potential to be valuable tools in their desperate escape attempt.

With a silent nod of agreement, they set their plan into motion. Lucy, her voice laced with nervous energy, traced the illusion glyph on the nearest wall. The symbols glowed a vibrant blue, then faded, leaving behind an unsettling silence. They could only hope it would be enough.

Eren, muscles tensed and senses heightened, ventured deeper into the arena. The air grew thick with the stench of damp earth and decay as he neared the creature pit. He crept cautiously along the edge, his heart pounding in his chest. A low rumble echoed from below, a constant reminder of the monstrous threat lurking just out of sight.

Meanwhile, L, his brow furrowed in concentration, activated a sequence of symbols on the arena wall. A section of the floor near the pit groaned and shifted, revealing a hidden passage – a narrow tunnel that plunged into the darkness beneath the arena.

"Found it!" L called out, his voice barely audible over the pounding of Eren's heart. "A secret passage, but it leads… well, who knows where."

Eren, peering into the inky blackness of the tunnel, felt a shiver crawl down his spine. It was a desperate gamble, but the alternative – facing the creature head-on – seemed even less appealing.

Just then, a deafening roar erupted from the creature pit, shaking the very foundations of the arena. The illusion spell, if it had worked at all, had evidently failed. The creature was awake and enraged.

"We don't have much time!" Lucy shouted, her voice laced with urgency. "Eren, get down there! We'll try to hold the beast off!"

Eren, with a final glance at the enraged creature thrashing within the pit, plunged into the dark tunnel. The stench intensified, and the air grew thick with dust and cobwebs. He stumbled forward, his only guide the faint glow emanating from his makeshift torch fashioned from a scrap of cloth scavenged from the fallen wolves.

As he disappeared into the depths, Lucy and L braced themselves for the inevitable confrontation. Lucy unleashed a flurry of celestial energy, forming shimmering blades that danced around her. L, with surprising agility, dodged and weaved between the creature's massive claws, activating another sequence of symbols on the wall just as the monstrous beast lunged towards him.

The effect was instantaneous. A section of the ceiling above the creature crumbled, sending a shower of debris raining down. The beast roared in pain and fury, momentarily distracted.

But they both knew it wouldn't be enough. The creature, enraged and relentless, would eventually break through their desperate defenses. Their only hope now rested on Eren, on his ability to navigate the treacherous tunnel and find his way to the passage – their only hope of escape from this twisted arena.
