Chapter 6: Myths and Ancient tongue.

"Alright crew, follow me and I'll show you a little of what this world has to offer in the way of food." Freya said as she began to march towards...nothing?

Everyone followed in confusion as she took exaggerated steps towards the center of the world tower.

As she approached the center she tapped her scepter on the ground and a small elevator rose from the floor in front of the almost 100 people making it an almost comical scene for anyone looking at the situation from a distance.

"Ah man this is going to take too many trips, I call dibs on being in the first group to go down." Ethan grumbled, earning a chuckle from the dragon/human hybrid.

"Well kid I can see where your confusion is coming from but you're still looking at the world through the lens of a place where the concept of magic doesn't exist." He grinned.

"Onward people there is food and booze to be had! Don't you worry the drinking age is whenever you can stomach it here." Freya continued on into the white film of light that was the door of the elevator.

Still confused everyone continued on, wondering how crowded this elevator was going to be once they crossed the film of light. Kyle stepped forward and through, feeling a slight disorientation and closing his eyes as he did and his face showed confusion when he opened his eyes.

From where he stood there were wooden benches with white trims along the outside and along the aisle that seemed to to stretch infinitely, the carpeted floor made it seem all the more cozy as he walked down the aisle to find a seat a few chairs behind one of the diplomats.

Why does this look like a shuttle bus? Kyle thought to himself while watching everyone from earth go through the same confusion and realization that he had only to be pull from his observations by a familiar voice.

"You wouldn't mind if I took a seat here right? No? Of course you wouldn't!" Freya asked and answered her own question before plopping down beside him.

Kyle gave a wry smile while being confused as to why he didn't see her when he walked into the bus, err, elevator? But before he could asked the question she started the conversation with a topic of her own, and admittedly one he was also curious about.

"I saw how you reacted when you stepped in, is this layout something that you're familiar with?" She asked.

"It is, there's a form of transportation on earth that looks like this without the stretching infinitely into space part and it also has windows," Kyle looked around before looking back at her. "and also a driver, how does this thing work?" Kyle raised an eyebrow.

Freya beamed at the question for reasons unknown to Kyle.

"No one drives it, it free falls or is pushed up until it snaps onto the floor that was specified, it's my favorite part of the world tower." Freya grinned with excitement as she explained the mechanics of the elevator.

Kyle waited for the punchline for about 3 seconds as he stared at her before he started frantically searching for the seatbelt or its equivalent in his vicinity, only to be stopped by Freya's sputtering laughter as she put a hand on his shoulder and tried to explain through the laughter that it was a joke.

"Oh man you should've seen the look on your face when I didn't elaborate further." She gave him a few pats on his shoulder before regaining her normal smile and explaining the real mechanics with a hint of amusement in the corner of her eyes.

"This is an elevator but I'm sure it's far more different than any on earth. We can call it an elevator because of the purpose it serves but it's really a space shuttle, with the world tower being as humongous as it is, stairs just weren't going to cut it. It was built by your ancestors along with a few other natural races and it was used as transportation to travel Reles. Unfortunately, after the Primes were sent to Earth and other races lacked the proper mana pools to handle repairs for such a large enchantment, It could only remain with the world tower to feed off of each other to keep themselves functioning properly. At its peak it could actually wrap around Reles and many even called it, The World Serpent." She spoke with a wisened tone, a sharp contrast to her youthful appearance.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

"Jörmungandr? What are you going to tell me next? The one who created it was Loki and the one who damaged it was his brother Thor?" Kyle shook his head and let out a chuckle at the absurdity of his own joke while waiting for a response from Freya that never came, prompting him to look at her only to see a shocked face that he hadn't expected to ever see her wear.

"You know one of the ancient tongues!?!? And you know the names of your ancestors that perished during the fall!?" Freya almost shouted which attracted some unwanted attention from some curious diplomats.

"Ahem, could we tone it down just a bit please?" Kyle uncomfortably looked around as he gestured for her to retake her seat, as he had leaped from it during her moment of shock.

Freya came to her senses and looked around seeing that everyone was staring she regained her composure before sitting back down gracefully but staring at Kyle with much more fervor and intensity than she was before.

"The names I mentioned were from a myth that is fairly popular on earth even today, and the language of the word I mentioned before is spoken by people in certain parts of earth, but not everywhere. There are many languages that are spoken in different places and many that were just lost in time or diluted from older ones, the reason why I know of it is because my parents are archaeologists that study ruins of the past and since I wanted to follow in their footsteps I studied many languages, the older the better." He explained the best he could while enduring her eager eyes.

"You just became 2 times more handsome." Freya smiled and said.

Kyle felt his narcissism spike again as he let that sentence wash over him for just the slightest moment.

It's not that he was surprised, knowing many languages had always been one of his tactics for attracting women. It's a universal law that knowing many languages will make someone more attracted to you no matter how they felt prior. He just felt like he was missing something when it came to his current situation though.

"While I would be content to just take the compliment, is there a reason why, I mean aside from my enrapturing eloquence?" When in doubt, ask. So thats what he did.

Freya rolled her eyes at his statement before falling into thought for a few seconds.

"As it stands now the way of enchanting is prominently done using mana writing which is using mana to place magic circles onto an item. This takes a long time due to the sheer number of magic circles needed to get a high ranked weapon not to mention the complexity of the magic circles themselves." She glanced at him. "There is also the way of etching which most enchanters stay away from unless they're making something ornate as this form of enchanting is both mana heavy and some materials are just too hard to even reliably use the art of etching on." she continued on.

"There is one other form of that no one can use due to a mixture of some of the former issues and the lack of knowledge on the ancient tongues. The art of mana speak is what was used to create the world serpent and the world tower itself. To my knowledge one must be adept in the language and have supporting phrases on the words the want to invoke into the mana as they infuse it into the craft, you'll have to understand what that means on your own though." Freya completed her explanation as she gazed at Kyle who looked to be in deep thought.

"Why only the ancient tongues? Why not the languages that are in use now?" Kyle asked in confusion.

"You mentioned it earlier accidentally, the languages have been diluted with time. The ancient tongues are the first languages of the universe, the words spoken by the universe's first inhabitants, so they were naturally more in line with mana. The words used for spell casting are a simplified version of the runic languages spoken by the ancients, the closer you are to those languages, the more control you can hold over mana itself."

Kyle's mind was whirling with thoughts and ideas that he couldn't confirm because of his lack of knowledge and it was eating him up inside with curiosity.

"We're here, it's time to go so you'll have to let that curiosity simmer." Freya said as she stood. Kyle looked up to see the the light curtain had appeared again in the same spot.

I guess she's right. Kyle rose to his feet, he was feeling hungry for something a bit more filling than knowledge.
