Chapter 5: Identification and Reason.

"I like this kid." A diplomat that looked like a dragon and human hybrid said as he let out a loud laugh.

A few other diplomats gave appreciating nods, but most of them just looked Kyle up and down in appraisal before continuing to watch as the rest of the students went through their awakening. The last small bit of the diplomats gave disdainful looks, but Kyle didn't blame them. It's easy to talk the talk but doing the walking is often the much harder part of the journey. Still, he figured that he'd made himself clear on the matter, so he returned to talking to his friends and watching everyone awaken.

As time went by, more and more students settled down and started discussing their status in their own cliques, and soon all of the students had completed their awakening.

"Can I please have your attention so I can explain what happens next?" Freya spoke as she looked toward the class who gave their attention immediately.

Kyle did the same and found himself very curious about her next words.

"I'm sure you can see where you all stand, a large tower so high in the clouds that you can't see the ground." she stated with a smirk. "We call it the world tower and it is the tallest thing on the planet, that includes trees and mountains alike. It serves many other purposes aside from being one of the best views in the world, but we aren't planning a date, at least not at this moment, so we'll skip this part of the explanation for now."

She said the last part with a wink to Kyle who just smiled in response, his friends stared daggers at him though.

"The world tower sits in the capital, Solaris. This isn't the capital of a kingdom, it's the capital of the world, of the universe if we speak in technical terms." She continued, pushing out her chest with pride. "This is also where you will spend the next half year to familiarize yourself with this world's, rules, cultures, races, etc. After which, all interested diplomats here will welcome you to their countries and you can choose who among those that solicit you that you'd like to join for further training." She spoke while waving toward the diplomats who stood straight and imposing as if to show their strength.

"Now, before we get you to the mess hall to try your first meal in a magic world we need to get you some identification." Once again she waved and made what looked like a deck of cards appear from seemingly nowhere.

'Definitely space magic or a storage item.' Kyle thought as his eyes scanned the deck of cards.

"This will also double as your first lesson on mana so make sure you listen during my instructions." Another wave from Freya and exactly 72 cards floated out with 1 floating to every person.

Kyle took the card and started inspecting it. The card seemed to be made of a weird metallic crystal, it was clearly crystal but it had a metallic sheen almost like liquid metal was used as lacquer, this caused the card to have a shattered glass effect. Kyle had to admit that it looked cool, but what did it do? He decided it was time to pay attention.

"You guys are going to have to prick your finger, that part is easy." Freya snapped and they all winced at the sudden pain in their thumb, a few who were less pain tolerant even yelped.

"Sorry about that, I forgot to bring needles." she gave an apologetic smile, it wasn't like anyone was going to argue though. "This is the important part, you need to place your pricked thumb on the card and try to feel the mana in your body. This usually takes 10 to 20 minutes so don't get discou-"

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Before she could continue her reassurance cards begin flashing light one after another in quick succession.

Kyle squinted at the sudden flash of light before focusing on the card to see what was happening. The card's face was changing and text begin to appear on it rapidly, far too rapid for Kyle's mind process what was happening. When the changes subsided he was left gobsmacked at what was on it, it was like a status with more mundane information like his name, age, and a moving portrait of himself that reminded him of the pictures from Harry Potter.

What interested him the most though were the Affiliations and Criminal history categories. He of course had nothing noted in the criminal history part but he found himself curious about how it worked, in the affiliations tab he had what seemed like greyed out logos.

"Well that was a spectacle." Freya brought him and the others out of their inspection of the cards.

"You guys are just full of surprises, that is your identity card. This will be checked before you are able to enter any place considered a town or larger cities, most of the information is pretty straightforward but the affiliation and criminal history categories could hinder the places that you can enter and places you can work. If you are arrested for a crime and proven guilty of said crime, the crime will appear in your criminal history, where it will stay, forever. So, say no to crime." She explained while wagging her finger at them.

Of course no one had any problem with what she said, so she continued.

"The affiliation category is both the most common and the most important information on your identification card. If you guys weren't summoned directly into the world tower you wouldn't even be able to make it past the steps, if you join any of the organizations the logo will become pronounced like this." On cue with her clap, a golden logo appeared that looked like a tower with silver clouds hiding its peak.

"The next lesson on your ID, hiding information. The logo that has appeared on your ID is the logo of the world association, the association that I am currently the Oracle of and it is a neutral organization that is not included in any political issues or any other worldly affairs. If it is found that anyone has used their identity as an affiliate of the world association for political or monetary gain then your identity will be revoked and you will sit in prison for a minimum of 5 years." She shifted to her frosty countenance while explaining this.

"Which is why it is best to hide this particular affiliation as it represents far more than any of the others." She returned to her smile and said in a softer tone.

"Considering your success in wielding mana to activate your cards then it should be easy for you all to connect to your cards and 'will' certain information to be hidden. As a heads up, some information is mandatory and cannot be hidden, like criminal history, your name, and your age." She explained patiently.

Doing as she said, Kyle found that it was indeed an easy feat to accomplish. He played around with it a bit and figured out what could and couldn't be hidden from whoever it might be that he wanted to hide information from.

"Although you can hide affiliations you do not need to do so as most affiliations aren't exclusive unless it is a noble family or a kingdom. Unless you're marrying someone from the noble family or a prince or princess from the kingdom that wants you to become an affiliate its best if you don't accept it or else you will become a soldier under the kingdom or nobles. They will treat you as a citizen instead of an asset for the upcoming war. If you intend to fight and survive that war, do not fall victim to promises of wealth and comfort and forget why you are here." She said with gravitas.

A solemn silence pervaded over the summoned, while the reactions of the diplomats varied between grimacing, gritted teeth or stoic passiveness.

Those who thought that they would live their new lives in safety and protection finally understood their situation a bit more at the revelation, and those like Kyle who saw the diplomats for what they really were re-solidified their own thoughts on how to deal with them and their uncertain future. He became all the more sure of Freya's claim when he saw the expressions of some of the diplomats. Kyle wouldn't call himself a schemer, but he knew his way around a serious situation.

RUMBLEEEEE.

The growl of a stomach broke the silence as everyone turned to the perpetrator who was fidgeting and trying to avert their eyes.

"Uhm, teehee?" Ethan said as he looked at Freya whose mouth was twitching.

"Well, it seems we should get you guys some food." Freya sighed and then said with a smile.

Kyle smirked. Nice move Ethan.

With the tension disappearing everyone's mind left the prior subject, well almost everyone.
