Chapter Six: Encounter With The Mystical

Peter's POV

"Students, make sure to revise because we're going to be having a test next class.”

I looked at Gwen, seeing her groan and roll her eyes. She whispered to me, “Why are we getting a test when Professor whatever her name is wasn't even in for half of the lessons?”

I sighed “I know right, so unfair.”

“Class is dismissed; you may leave,” our professor stated.

As I made my way to the exit, I heard the professor call out my name.

“Peter, can you stay back for a few minutes?”

I internally rolled my eyes, first at work and now at school. Why can't I just leave without getting held back?

I prayed, which was weird because I never do that, that she was just going to tell me how great I'm doing in her class and how I'm one of her favourite students, but I doubt that thought ever came to her mind.

"Yeah, sure, is everything okay?” I asked.

“Not really, I'm afraid.”

I was getting pretty nervous now. What does she mean, not really? Gosh, what did I do now?

“Enlighten me,” I replied, trying to hide my irritation.

“Peter, you have missed a good handful of my classes.”

“Yeah? You can't really speak when you barely come to school,” I wanted to say to her, but I didn't want to add fuel to the fire.

"Yes, I know, professor. I'm very sorry,” I said instead.

“I guess that's alright, Peter, but just try to turn up more.”

“Yes, of course, professor,” I answered.

“Have a good day,” I told her before I exited the room.

When I walked out, I saw Gwen, Michelle, and Harry waiting for me.

“What was the professor talking to you about?” Gwen asked.

“Just about how I've missed a lot of her classes.” I told them.

“That four-eyed bitch can't talk when she's missed all her classes, and she's the fucking professor,” Michelle argued, her voice getting louder.

“Can you keep it down, please? I don't want to get in trouble." Gwen fretted, trying not to draw attention to our group.

"Yeah, like cool your jets, MJ,” Harry agreed.

“Ok, ok, I will.”

"Oh,” I said, pulling out my phone. “Before I forget, my phone broke and I had to get a new one, so can you guys add your contacts?” I told them, handing the phone to Harry.

“Yeah sure”

“How'd you break your phone?”

I didn't know what to say to that. Should I tell them that overnight I became stronger and broke my phone with a single touch? No, I couldn't say that they would just laugh at me.

“I dropped it in the toilet,” I said.

“Really? God, how stupid are you?” Michelle asked.

“It was an accident,” I muttered, a bit mad at Michelle because, for one, I am not stupid.

“Peter, don't get mad; she was obviously joking,” Harry commented.

“Yeah, I know.”

"Anyways, do you have to go to work today?” Gwen asked.

"No,” I answered.

"Great, so you'll come to the cinema with us?”

"Um, no thanks,” I responded.

“What do you mean, no thanks?”

“You complain about not getting out more, and when we invite you to do something, you turn us down.”

“I'm just not in the mood for that right now,” I told them.

“Not in the mood, or just not bothered?” Gwen said, her voice laced with sadness.

“Gwen, I'm sorry, but...”

"No, it's ok." Gwen interjects, “Let's go, guys.”

Michelle gives me a “you're so dead when we get back” look and says, "Yeah, see you later.”

I've never been so scared of her in my life.

“Cya Peter,” Harry says, waving before they're leaving the campus and speeding off in Harry's car.

Don't get me wrong. I felt really guilty, but I really just wasn't in the mood. I left the campus and began my journey home.

When I got home, the first thing I did was put on my pyjamas and watch a movie, more specifically a musical. What can I say? They're my favourite thing to watch. But nobody can know that.

Today I decided to watch “The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals” because I heard it was good.

I picked up the remote to type the name; it took longer than intended because I had to press each letter, but when I eventually pressed the search button, it appeared and I clicked on it, putting up the volume but not too loud so I wouldn't have complaints from my neighbours again. Annoying pricks.

Before I was even five minutes into the musical, I heard a knock on my door.

I was terrified because I didn't remember inviting anyone. I looked through the peephole on the door, and to my surprise, I saw what looked to be cops outside my door.

I carefully opened the door. “Can I help you?” I asked them.

“You have to come with us,” the cops announced in sync, which made me even more scared. Are they robots or something?

“Why?”

“Our boss wants to meet you,” they informed me.

“Who’s your boss?” I asked.

“You have to come with us to figure that out,” they said, and I didn't know what to say.

“Um, can I at least change? I'm in my PJs,” I questioned them.

“We’re giving you four minutes,” they said, and I nodded and ran to my bedroom quickly, putting on a t-shirt and shorts as it was quite warm outside.

"Ok, I'm ready,” I told them, and they turned around in sync, which was so creepy to watch, and started walking out of the apartment complex.

When we got outside, I saw a ship, but not one of those ships that go on water, but a spaceship. I gasped in amazement. How and why is there a spaceship at the front of my apartment complex, and why am I getting on it?

I got on the spaceship, and I was even more amazed. Inside the spaceship was purple and black, and there were like a gazillion buttons everywhere.

Something touched me, and I turned around. It was one of the cops.

“Take a seat and put your seatbelt on,” he says, and I must admit that his voice was quite relaxing when the guy wasn't talking with his partner.

I sat down on a seat and tried to put the very tricky seatbelts on when I finally got them fastened. I looked up to see both the cops looking at me without saying a word.

“We can go now,” I murmured, trying to sound upbeat, but in reality, I was really nervous.

They shook their heads, which confused me, and turned on the spaceship. We took off into the sky, and, not going to lie, I felt a bit queasy, but I held it down.

**

When we landed, I immediately got up, feeling excited, but the engine was still on, and I went crashing down.

I stood up in embarrassment and quietly sat back down. Then they finally stopped the engine, and I carefully took off my seatbelt and got up. What I saw outside blew me away.

Outside was a castle, but not an ordinary castle; this was where the Noveas lived. If you don't know who the Noveas are, they are a group of superheroes, including the legendary Troy Gibson and Steven Kent.

I almost squealed; that's how happy I was, but I kept my cool so I wouldn't scare anyone.

The cops guided me to the entrance of the castle and to a lift. We had to go ten stories up, and I was once again nervous. I'm going to be meeting the Noveas; why did they want to meet me?

Once the door of the lift opens, I'm met with Troy Gibson.

"Hello, Peter Johnston, is it?” questioned Troy.

"Um, hi,” I squeaked.

“Welcome to the Noveas Tower! As you probably already know, I'm Troy Gibson.”

He put his arm around my shoulders and dragged me forward inside the castle.

“Let me introduce you to the others,” Troy states, grinning.

We passed what seemed to be a living room the size of my apartment. I was flabbergasted. How rich were they?

We came to a stop at an office that had the name “Brandon Davis” engraved on the door.

I could hear shouting from where I was standing and looked at Troy.

Troy sighed and rolled his eyes. “Sorry about them,” he motioned, opening the door and walking into the office.

The minute the other members saw him, they quieted down.

“Gibson, who's the kid?” Steven Kent asked.

“The “kid” is Peter Johnston, remember? The guy I told you about?”

"Oh, right,” Natalie Brown chimed in.

“Come on in.”

I entered the office and greeted the superheroes. I felt so small compared to them.

“Hi, Peter, welcome to the Noveas castle." Charlie Brooks was greeted.

“I already welcomed him." Troy grumbled, “Just introduce yourself to him so we can leave.”

“How do you know he doesn't already know us?”

“Yeah, we're the infamous Noveas; everybody knows us,” Brandon Davis snorts.

“Just tell the guy who you are,” Troy demanded.

“Ok, fine,” Natalie said, walking closer to me and raising her hand in a wave.

“I'm Natalie Brown; it's a pleasure to meet you, Peter Johnston,” Natalie greeted me.

“T-Thanks; it's a pleasure to meet you too,” I replied, my voice going two octaves higher.

She laughed and gave me a little punch on the shoulder. It hurt so bad, but I tried not to show it.

"Hi, I'm Steven Kent." Steven goes to say it but is interrupted by Troy.

“This is taking too long here. The guy with the blue shirt is Steven Kent, the guy with the glasses is Brandon Davis, and the guy with the crazy hairdo is Charlie Brooks,” he told me, earning a glare from Charlie.

“Are you forgetting someone?”

“I don't think so,” Troy said.

The guy, whom I didn't know too well, looked like he was about to attack Troy.

“Kidding, kidding, the guy that looks like he’s about to kill me is Theodore Smith.”

“It's nice to meet you all. I must say I'm a huge fan,” I told them.

Troy laughed and said, “I'm sure you are; now come on.

He pushed me out of the office and into a room; it was huge, and there were loads of people in it.

He took me to a little spot. “There you go; just make yourself at home; training starts tomorrow.”

I was confused. “Training? What do you mean training?”

"Oh, did I not say you would be?” questioned Troy.

“You didn't mention that, no.”

“Oh well, long story short, I had a spy look over the city for a few weeks to report any bad guys, but then they saw you, and they thought it would be good for you to be a hero,” Troy said.

“Me? Why me?” I asked.

“You've got skill, kid, and you saved that employee a couple of days ago. That takes real bravery.”

I honestly forgot about that event, as it was quite traumatising, but look where it's got me now. I don't know whether I'm really excited or scared.

"Thanks,” I answered.

“No problemo,” he beamed. “Like I said, make yourself at home. I have a robot named T.Y.R.O., so if you need anything, just ask him.”

“Yeah, ok,” I responded.

"Great, you gotta run, but I'll see you tomorrow." Troy grinned, exiting the room before doing a salute.

I was quite tired, so I looked around to see if there was a bed that I could sleep in. Fortunately, there was one. I cursed the cops for not telling me that I should've packed some clothes.

“There are some pyjamas on the bedside table,” a voice mumbled.

I shuddered and turned around to see whose voice it was. It was just a guy working out.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you,” he apologised.

"No, it's ok,” I reassured.

“I haven't seen you before; are you new?” He asked.

“Yeah, I'm starting my training tomorrow,” I told him.

“Good luck. I've been training here for over nine months, but I've actually never gotten the chance to fight a villain. Maybe one day.”

“Thanks” is all I said.

“What's your name?” He asked.

“Peter Johnston, you?”

“I'm Nic Crab; nice to meet you.”

I nodded, put on my pyjamas, and laid in bed. “Imagine fighting a villain,” I thought. How cool it would be to be able to say, “I defeated so and so,” the number of girls that would be pining over me, and to be featured on the news. It would be life-changing.

I fell asleep thinking of how tomorrow was going to go, and I couldn't help but smile at everything that had happened today.

I guess I'll just have to wait until my training...
