Chapter Seven: Dawning of Destiny

Chapter Seven: Dawning of Destiny

Peter's POV

Three months later.

“Mr. Johnson, it's time for you to get up.”

“T.Y.R.O. set an alarm for five minutes from now.”

“Are you sure, Mr. Johnson? Mr. Gibson will be arriving in approximately 2 minutes. T.Y.R.O stated.

I immediately got up and said, “It's fine, T.Y.R.O., I don't need the alarm anymore.”

I tidied my bed and was greeted by Troy.

“Good morning, Peter!” Troy chirped full of energy, which I don't understand because it's seven in the morning.

“Good morning,” I replied, my voice groggily.

“What are you waiting for? Go take a shower and meet me downstairs.”

“Ok, ok, I'm coming.”

I take a shower and put on some shorts and a tank top. I started going on runs with Troy a few weeks ago to work on my speed. Though I told him many times that I don't want to have to wake up really early in the morning, he doesn't seem to get the hint.

I sighed and made myself out of the enormous room that I now call my home.

See, three months ago I was taken from my home by who I thought were cops at them but were actually vigilantes.

I was introduced to the Noveas and have been living in the Noveas castle ever since training so I could one day fight alongside them, which I'm super excited for, but life has been so boring.

My day consists of waking up, eating, training, having a nap, eating again, and sleeping.

“Hey T.Y.R.O?” I asked the robot implanted in the castle.

“How can I be of assistance?”

“You're like everywhere, right?” I questioned, still amazed at how that's even possible.

“That's correct”

I put my fingers to my chin in a thinking motion before I say, “That means you can listen in on the meetings the Noveas have.”

“That is true, but I am unable to eavesdrop on their discussions frequently because Mr. Gibson turns me off during the Noveas' meetings.” T.Y.R.O stated.

I start to get a bit excited. "Yeah, but when you weren't turned off, have they ever talked about me?”

“I apologise, but I am unable to share that information with you, Mr. Johnson. It's confidential”

"Oh, please,” I beg, “have they said anything about me? Like, if I'm ready to start fighting with them? Or, if not, when? Do they have an exact date? Wait, what if it's like next week? I think I'm ready, but I'm not sure. T.Y.R.O., what did they say?”

"I apologise, Mr. Johnson, but as I mentioned before, I cannot share that information with you. I believe that when the time is right, Mr. Gibson and the Noveas will inform you.”

"Fine,” I scoff. “Fuck you too.”

**

I went downstairs using the lift—of course it's there for a reason—and went into the kitchen, where I was greeted by Charlie and Steven.

“Good morning, Peter." Steven greeted me.

“Good morning!” I responded.

Steven bumped his shoulder on Charlie's “What?” He huffed, looking at him.

Charlie motioned over to me. "Oh, good morning, Peter,” he said while smiling, but then sucked in a breath and his hand went to his forehead.

“Um, are you okay?” I ask him.

Charlie goes to say something but is interrupted by Steven.

“Are you kidding me, Charlie? Did you really get drunk the night before we had to fight a villain?” Steven chastised.

“Hey, I think I have a pass. I just found out my wife died. I think my drinking is the least of our problems.

“Charlie I know you're hurting, but we're all hurting. We've all lost someone who doesn't give you the right to go all AWOL.”

I could feel an argument brewing, but I kind of wanted to watch it, so I quietly sat down and watched.

“I just didn't want to feel for one fucking night. Is that really that bad?”

"Yes, Charlie, it is bad if we have to be fighting a villain and not a stupid villain; it's really dangerous. It's our right now to torture innocent civilians while we're sitting here doing nothing.”

My ears prick up at that. “There’s a villain that we have to defeat.”

They seemed to ignore the fact that I said we "Yeah, he calls himself Havoc, and he's really dangerous,” Steven answered while Charlie groaned.

Troy comes into the kitchen and says, "Peter, are you ready? You've been in here for a while.”

I forgot to eat my breakfast because I was too invested in Charlie and Steven's argument.

“Uh, yeah, I'm done,” I responded.

Troy nods, not paying me any attention. “Charlie? Steven, is everything alright?”

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

Steven huffs “We'll talk about it later.”

"No, you're going to tell me right now; I heard you guys arguing.”

Steven's voice goes a bit quieter. "Troy, really in front of the kid?”

I try not to get annoyed at him calling me a kid. I'm twenty-one, for God's sake.

“Peter's not a kid; just tell me what's going on,” Troy said, his voice clearly full of irritation.

“Troy…” Steven warned.

Suddenly, Charlie stood up, his hand covering his mouth. He was saying something, though I didn't understand it, but it probably had something to do with throwing up because of the way he was acting. He made a beeline for the bathroom, and I could hear and smell him.

It was quiet for a few minutes until Troy spoke up, "Steven, what's wrong? You know you can tell me Peter won't tell anyone. Hell, who would he tell?”

I opened my mouth to give him a remark but thought better of it.

“Fine, you know the Havoc guy you thought you had arrested?” Steven asked.

Troy stayed silent for a second before answering, "Yes, he was put in the highest security prison in all of America.”

"Yeah, well, I don't know how, but he escaped.”

“What? That's impossible,” Tony doubted.

“I know,” Steven said, “and the worst part is we can't even fight him because we're all needed to fight the big cat in space.”

I almost burst out laughing at that, because, really? A cat? People literally have those as pets. I don't think the whole team has to go to fight one little cat.

Thankfully, Troy thought the same, “A cat?”He shakes his head. “Why can't half of us go fight the cat and the other half take down this escapee?”

“It's not that easy. The cat has its own army; we all have to be there if we have any chance of stopping it.”

“Then what are we going to do about the other guy?” questioned Troy.

At that point, I finally decided to say, “I can take him.”

Troy and Steven both looked at me.

“Are you sure, Peter? This guy is a super dangerous guy.”

“I'm sure,” I said, though my voice showed how nervous I actually was.

"Peter, your life could be at stake, and you've only been training for a few months. Are you really sure?” Steven asked.

“I'm very sure,” I said, my voice a bit more confident this time.

"Ok, well, we'll have to get you a suit because you can't go out looking like that,” Steven explained.

I looked down at what I was wearing. Was it really that bad?

“I'll make my own costume,” I told Troy.

“First off, it's a suit, and second of all, that's going to take a while, but I can make one for you really quick,” Troy said.

"No, it's ok, I want to make it." I beamed.

"Ok, whatever you say." Troy said. "Steven, get the others so we can leave.”

“I'm doing it now,” Steven murmured, rolling his eyes.

When Steven left the kitchen, Troy turned to me, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Peter, I don't know when we'll be back, but I'm counting on you to help us take down this havoc guy.”

“I won't let you down, Mr. Gibson,” I responded.

He laughed and let out a dramatic sigh. “Please call me Troy, Mr. Gibson makes me sound old.”

"Um, ok,” I answered. “I won't let you down, Troy.”

“That feels weird, but I'll allow it.”

Troy exits the kitchen and leaves me there with my thoughts.

For a moment, I considered that I had no idea who this man was. I feel extremely alone in this location, and it pains me that I can’t inform my friends of my whereabouts. They believe I am ignoring them and are not responding to my messages, but I suppose it's for the best for me and for them.

I'm rudely interrupted by Charlie coming out of the bathroom looking like absolute shit.

“Where is everyone?” He asks.

“They are going to space to fight a cat,” I replied, and he nodded, his mouth agape, and stood in place.

“I'm pretty sure you're meant to be there too,” I add.

And that seemed to shake him out of his weird state.

"Right,” he says. “I should get going,” and he runs out of the kitchen.

I made my way back to my room, grateful that I didn't have to go on that run with Troy, and started making my costume—I mean, suit.

**

A few hours later, I was finally on the last stitch of my suit. The suit was a yellowish orange colour, but it looked a lot like gold and green.

I picked the somewhat golden colour because that was the last thing I saw before I got my powers—the golden aura that was around the scorpion sculpture. God, I can't believe that was 3 months ago. I picked green because it's my favourite colour, but not like vomit green or forest green.

I picked up the suit and went over to the corner of my room, where the mirror is. I carefully placed the suit on my body to see what it looked like, and, oh my God, I looked amazing.

“Now I just have to think of a superhero name,” I wondered to myself. I couldn't just go around without a name; that would be suspicious.

I began to get more excited. “I'm going to have a secret identity,” I squealed. “I'm going to be on the news, and maybe I'll finally find a girlfriend.

“Hey Peter, what are you up to?” a voice from behind me asked.

I tried not to shriek and turned around to see whose it was, and of course it was Nic.

"Man,” I sputtered. “You gotta stop sneaking up on me.”

"Sorry, dude,” Nic apologised.

I sighed, “It's ok.”

"Sooo, what are you doing?” Nic asked again.

I explained to him what happened, and to say he was over the moon was an understatement. I honestly thought that he was going to be jealous because he's been training for a little over a year now, and I brought it up, but he assured me that he will be fighting with the Noveas as soon as they get back from space.

“I don't care; I'm just happy that you get to fight a villain.”

I smiled and said, "Thanks, I was able to make a suit, but I can't think of a name.”

“Hmm” Nic goes quiet for a second before continuing, “How'd you get your powers again?”

"Uh, I got my powers when I touched a scorpion sculpture,” I told him, my face turning red with embarrassment.

“Right”

He looked like he was in deep thought. I walked away from the mirror so I could put my suit back into the chest near my bed and sat down on my bed.

I turned around to see Nic looking like he had just won a million euros.

“How about Arachnite?” Nico asked, grinning from ear to ear.

“Arachnite? Where'd you come up with that?”

“Scorpions are part of the Arachnida family, and that's how you got your powers, and the “nite” sounds like a knight, and knights are people that fight for their country, and that's basically what you're doing.”

“Wait, that's actually really smart!” I exclaimed.

“I know, right,” Nic responded, smirking.

"Ok, I take that back.”

Nic laughed, hugged me, and left before wishing me good luck on my mission.

I wish I could say I was excited, confident, and prepared to fight the havoc, but in reality, I was frightened. I mean, I've only been training for a few months.

Also, if I'm being honest, I saw a picture of Havoc on TV when I was watching the afternoon news, and for some reason, he looked like someone I knew, but that's impossible… right?
