1. (Old)

1. (Old)

"Leon." A tall man around his 60's is asking the attention of a much younger boy, about sixteen years old and average height. Leon looks away from the cicada making loud noises on a tree. "we're almost at our destination." The master kept on walking and did not look back as Leon caught up to him. Leon and his master, who he only knows as such as he never gave his real name, have been traveling for a couple of days towards Frah, a central city and one of the biggest of the continent. It is a great hub for merchants and adventurers alike as it leads to many smaller towns and it's only a few hours away from a large port. They are finally close enough that part of the front gate becomes visible. As they walk they are passed by different types of people. Leon looks at all of the people who come by. All his life he has lived in a small town to the west. "we're sticking out like a sore thumb, if we want to seem like normal humans we should at least get some more modern clothing," the boy says. "No one will know, Your gear is the latest available and my silken vest is quite the modern looker itself." "All the metal parts of other people's armour is obviously more rounded than mine, most of the swords look much more refined as well." The boy's ember eyes glance at every single adventurer and mercenary to see what they're wearing and carrying. "I'm sure it's fine, it hasn't been that long since I've last been out of Nis, now stop complaining, we will be passing the checkpoint soon, make sure you know where your passport is for when we get to the gate." "Sure." The boy lets out a sigh before checking in his vest to see whether his passport is still there. It hasn’t moved from its original spot. “Actually, I believe it will take longer than anticipated.” The boy tries to see what the man means but can’t see over the people and carriages. “It looks like someone couldn’t show any credentials, so he is making a disturbance. Go and sit somewhere close by and do some breathing exercises, I will call you when it is time to go.” “Better to sit in the shade than to stand in the sun anyway.” The boy walks towards one of the trees just off the neatly made path and sits down next to one of them. He crosses his legs and starts breathing in a set pattern. “What a well taught child to be listening so well to what his teacher asks.” An old woman walks up to Leon and sits next to him in the shade. She looks to be in her 70’s and grey to the last hair. She uses a walking stick but still seems relatively fit. “Most children nowadays don’t listen to their teachers as well. They usually go off and do their own thing or slack off whenever they can, I wish more children were so diligent.” “I’m not that diligent, it’s more so that my master knows whenever I slack off.” The woman laughs at the boy’s remark. “At least you’re honest.” The woman thinks for a short moment. “I know something fun we can do while we wait, how about a nice guessing game. I would like you to guess who my disciple is. If you can guess who it is I’ll give you something nice.” “Are you sure you want to be giving away free stuff that easily?” “Are you telling me you already knew? I didn’t interact with my pupil before walking here, as a matter of fact, I went from a different tree to this one before coming here. I don’t think I’ve given you a single hint so far either.” The boy smiles slightly before turning his head towards the woman and then towards the crowd of people and one person in particular and he points towards her. “The blonde over there with the brown eyes, wide pants, high heel boots and long vest.” The woman looks at the boy with one eyebrow raised. “What makes you think that?” “Her flow of mana is similar to yours, for one. Another thing which gives it away is the fact that the gloves in her pockets have an obvious magic circle in them which gives off an obvious flow. Outside of that your facial structure is slightly similar, meaning she is probably your granddaughter. You two both have the same eyes as well.” The boy says with purple eyes as he lowers his hand. “You’re a sly one, child. You’re not only doing breathing exercises meant for regulating aura which warriors tend to use instead of magicians and you carry a sword, so you’re actually a warrior who receives a magician’s training as well. It looks like I let my guard down since you’re so young, my apologies.” “No offence taken.” The woman lets out a slight chuckle as she slowly stands up and prepares to leave to her pupil. “You’ll find out what the gift will be soon, for now I will be going back to my granddaughter. I had a fun time chatting with you. If you are still searching for lodging and have yet to choose, might I recommend the “Soft shelled turtle”? They have a great price to quality ratio and some of the best tasting soups as well. Tell them you’re a friend of Annabelle and they will give you a slight discount.” Leon does a slight bow before the woman starts walking away. When he raises his head he sees his master looking at him, gesturing to come as it’s nearly their turn. He stands up and walks toward his master who already has his passport ready. When it is their turn to show their passports Leon grabs it out of his coat and shows it to the guard. “It’s kind of old, I don’t see many of these often, don’t you know we use ID cards nowadays? We can more easily scan them. Some places might not accept these anymore as they can be forged quite easily, please get to the consultation office as soon as you can so you can get an ID.” The guard returns the passports to the man and the boy. “We will go there as soon as possible, we are from relatively far away, so new technology is slow to reach us usually, so we weren’t aware yet.” Master says as he puts his passport back in his pocket. “Make sure to go as soon as possible,” the guard says as he opens the small gate blocking the entrance. The two walk past it onto the bridge leading inside the walls of the city. “This is your first time in a city, you must be excited, but try to keep a low profile for now, we don’t want any unnecessary attention.” The man says to the boy. “Of course not.” The boy says as they reach the beginning of the city. The boy looks around to the nature one last time before entering a large city for the first time in his life
