10. Li Chen Code of Conduct

10. Li Chen Code of Conduct

"I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do."

Ta! Ta! Ta!

The heavy downpour sent a cold shiver down everyone's spine.

Watching the sky pouring down blood was something they had never seen or heard of in their lives.

Apart from the rain being red like blood, it had a nauseating smell.

However, this was the least of their problems. They watched hundreds of zombies moving back and forth in the rain.

Just then, a panicked woman's voice came from the store.

"Hubby, they are coming toward us."

"Stay away from the window and let's hide," her husband said with a trembling voice.

Bang! Bang!

Ten zombies appeared before the small store entrance and began banging on the door furiously.

At first, it was a single zombie banging on the door, but slowly, their numbers increased.

The wooden door creaked, showing signs of breaking into pieces. The old couple hugged each other with despair marring their faces.

"W-Who will save us now…" the man said with a quivering voice.

"The door can't hold them anymore."

Boom!

The door was sent flying, and the hungry zombies rushed inside the store.

What followed was the miserable scream of the old couple.

This was happening in every corner of the village. People were fighting against zombies that were on steroids.

Some even tried to rush into the rain to escape. However, it was then they witnessed the horror.

The rain twisted their minds, making them attack anything in their path and some didn't last ten seconds before they went mad.

In the Wild Goose Chamber, Li Chen, with his new sword, hacked any zombies coming toward him.

After the descent of the Blood Rain, with screams coming from various rooms, he came out to defend his territory.

Watching him kill the zombies easily, those who managed to survive rushed toward him with eyes brimming with hope.

After fighting for a couple of minutes, he managed to clear all the zombies in the hallway. However, he did not stop and went downstairs to clear all the zombies.

Being a level 1 warrior with a common-grade weapon, it was easy for him to dispose of all the ordinary zombies, even though they had gotten stronger from the rain.

"Young master, thank you for saving us," a middle-aged man with a bald head and a long beard said with a flattering smile.

Behind him were five young people, trembling in fear. They looked at Li Chen as if he were their savior.

Li Chen looked at the group and knew they must have done something inhumane to survive and be among the survivors.

However, he didn't judge them. The world had gone gaga, and now was not the time to act selflessly.

"Who are you?" he asked casually.

"Sorry, Young Master, for not introducing myself." The man bowed respectfully and said, "I'm Manager Bo, the manager of this store."

Li Chen nodded casually and looked at the boys.

Two of them were disciples of the Kunlun Sword Sect, while the other three wore the uniform of the Wild Goose Chamber.

"Is there anyone else in the building?" he asked, staring at Manager Bo.

"…Hmm…" Manager Bo creased his brow and responded, "Yes… there is the Young Miss and her maid on the third floor."

"Good. Call them for me," Li Chen said casually.

Hmm?

Manager Bo and those who worked in the Wild Goose Chamber were shocked.

The Young Miss of the Wild Goose Chamber was an existence they couldn't meet just anyhow, but this unknown boy asked them to call her just like that.

Taking a deep breath, Manager Bo, with his fawning smile, said slowly, "Why don't we leave the Young Miss out of this?"

"Why should I do that? Just because she's the Young Miss of the Wild Goose Chamber doesn't make her any different from anyone else."

"Just go and call her for me," he demanded in a cold voice.

"Y-yes…. I'll go right away." Manager Bo responded quickly when he saw Li Chen's cold, expressionless gaze.

Just as Manager Bo prepared to leave for the third floor, they saw a group running in the rain wildly with savage expressions on their faces.

"P-Please help us…." they cried.

Behind them, a horde of zombies followed. With their minds invaded by the Blood Rain, they could only run for a couple more feet before they were overtaken by the zombies.

Watching the brutal scene, they swallowed the lumps in their throats and shivered.

"Are you going or not?" Li Chen asked.

"Ah!" Manager Bo exclaimed and rushed to the third floor.

While Manager Bo went to call the Young Miss, Li Chen did not stay idle.

"Bring all the zombies' bodies here," he ordered.

"What!" they exclaimed, their faces etched with fear.

How could they bring those terrifying things down here?

They shivered and shook their heads.

"I don't like repeating myself," Li Chen said and looked at them with an icy gaze.

"Why don't you do it yourself? It's not like we're your slaves," one of the Kunlun Sword disciples retorted.

"Right. Who are you to order us around? You might have saved us, but you're just lucky."

"When the sect army arrives, all your actions will be meaningless. So stop your arrogant act."

The two disciples spoke one after the other with disdain on their faces.

Li Chen looked at them and couldn't understand where they got the courage to talk to him like that.

'Are they stupid or what?' he thought.

"What do you expect?" Hera responded in his mind. "They've long believed the Kunlun Sect will save them from whatever trouble they're in."

"Your act of saving them means nothing to them."

'I see… then I must jolt their brains back to reality.'

"Hahaha. They thought you were sane, but they forgot you're just as crazy as those zombies," Hera responded with a hearty laugh.

His last experience before dying made him realize being nice to others, and hoping for them to reciprocate the same was a naive thought.

The previous Li Chen had been bullied since he entered the sect and yet, no one came to his aid. They ignored him as if he was nothing.

Humans would only respect you when you have something they need or you're too powerful for them to have any thoughts against you.

Besides, since he started killing the zombies, he realized deep inside him that he loved the feeling of killing, giving him the freedom he had so much wanted.

Now, he won't care how others think of his actions. He would only act unrestrained to his heart's content, enjoying the freedom brought by his second life.

Just then, three people came down from the stairs.

Leading them was a beautiful young lady with a cold, expressionless gaze and an air of superiority.

Behind her was her maid with a haughty look on her face.

Manager Bo had an unsightly look on his face and stood to the side to see how things would unfold.

"Who are you to summon my Young Miss?" Na asked coldly.

"Shut your trap!" Li Chen said and pointed his sword at her.

"Make any useless statement once again, and I'll hang your head at the entrance."

"What!"

Everyone gasped in shock. They looked at the young man with trepidation coursing through their veins.

Na's mouth was wide open with fear etched on her face. She wanted to berate this insane young man, but seeing the coldness on his face made her heart skip a beat.

On the other hand, Guiyin only creased her brow and asked, "What do you want?"

She was not stupid enough to go against someone with a weapon who could kill so many zombies without dying.

"As of this moment onward, this building is now my territory. You can either leave or abide by my rules and regulations," Li Chen said casually.

Hahaha!

One of the Kunlun Sword Sect disciples laughed as if he had just heard the biggest joke of the year.

"You're more stupid than I thought," he said with disdain.

Everyone also nodded their heads and looked at Li Chen as if he were a fool. However, what happened next left them breathless.

Whoosh!

Li Chen covered the short distance between them and swung his sword ruthlessly.

Bang!

He severed the boy's head from his neck, and his head flew into the air, still having the disdainful expression on his face.

Before the head could crash to the ground, Li Chen caught it, went to the entrance, and hung it.

He turned to the group and asked, "You were saying?"
