Cara’s Level Up

Cara’s Level Up

(3000 Years Ago)

Fear Herself, then known as "The Cute," knelt on the ground, her long black hair covering her face as she wept. Her dimension, known for its cuteness and wholesomeness, was being destroyed by the demands of the viewers. They claimed it was not exciting enough, lacking in action and drama.

With a determined look, Fear wiped away her tears and spoke through gritted teeth, "Fine. If you want violence, I'll give you violence." She began to laugh, a maniacal giggle that echoed throughout the dimension. "I am Fear Herself, and from now on, my dimension will be a world of chaos and terror. No one will ever destroy it again."

(Present Day)

Cara walked over to Jordan and Katie, who were engrossed in discussing the latest sponsor announcements while staring intently at the screens in front of them.

“I can't seem to decide,” Jordan complained.

Katie noticed Cara’s arrival and greeted her with a smile, “Hey, Cara! Do you mind helping me choose my sponsor? I'm having a tough time picking one out.”

Cara scanned the list of unfamiliar names until she saw one she recognized, “Ghost… Hunter…” she said, drawing out the words.

“Wow, Van Helsing! That's so cool!” Katie exclaimed.

Jordan shared that he had selected DragonSlayer, who wished to remain anonymous. All eyes turned to Cara.

“So, who did you choose?” Katie asked eagerly.

Cara hesitated for a moment, thinking that it might be best to keep her sponsor offers to herself, but then shrugged away the thought, “I declined the offers,” she said.

The two looked on in shock, but quickly composed themselves, realizing that arguing with Cara was pointless. They shifted the conversation to their next plan of action since they had 22 students with them.

“Maybe we could head to my house,” Jordan suggested, “It should be relatively clear.”

Cara visibly shuddered at the idea, “How big?”

“The house? Yeah, it’s pretty big,” replied Jordan.

Cara scanned the students around her, “Big enough?”

Jordan groaned, “Probably not.”

Katie chimed in, “What about the abandoned factory on the outskirts of town? We could fortify it and make it our base.”

Jordan looked toward Cara, who gave a thumbs up, “Alright, off to the abandoned factory!”

As they made their way to the abandoned factory, Cara couldn't shake off the feeling of unease creeping up her spine. She had heard stories about this factory, and none of them were good. Cara knew that they needed to find a temporary place to stay before nightfall, and this seemed to be the only option they had.

When they arrived, Cara's worst fears were confirmed. The factory was in a state of disrepair, just as she remembered. Broken windows, graffiti-covered walls, and a door that barely clung to its hinges greeted them. It was clear that no one had used the factory for years.

Jordan and Katie determined that this was satisfactory for a temporary base, and the two of them set to work. Jordan determined a schedule for a night shift to keep the place guarded throughout the night. While Katie worked to determine whose aspects might be useful for fixing the building. Cara sat against the wall, her eyes closed as she rested. She had agreed to take the first night shift, and knew that it would be a long one since they were short on manpower. She felt a twinge of guilt for resting while the others worked, but knew that she needed to conserve her energy for the long night ahead. She took a deep breath and focused on her breathing, letting her mind wander as she tried to recharge her batteries.

Eventually, the time for the first night shift arrived and Cara was joined by Katie. However, Katie fell asleep within the first five minutes, leaving Cara as the sole protector. Cara couldn't help but chuckle softly as she looked at Katie, curled up in a ball and snoring. However, she quickly regained her focus and began keeping watch. The first hour passed without any incident, but in the middle of the second hour, Cara noticed a figure approaching in the distance. It was vaguely humanoid in shape, but Cara couldn't be sure.

Cara stood up and picked up her chair, which was still her only weapon, and cautiously approached the figure. As she got closer, she realized that it was definitely not human. Judging by its horns and red skin, it was some kind of demon. What set this demon apart from the usual imps was the longsword in its hands, gleaming in the moonlight. Cara activated her aspect for the first time, copying Katie’s new aspect.

As the demon charged towards her, Cara felt a surge of power coursing through her veins. Cara dodged the demon's first swing and countered with a strike of her own, her chair hitting the demon's arm with a satisfying thud. The demon roared in anger and swung again, but Cara was ready. She blocked the strike with her chair, then followed up with a swift kick to the demon's stomach. The demon stumbled backward, but quickly regained its footing.

Cara could tell her strikes were doing little to permanently harm the demon, so she needed to switch strategies. She reactivated her aspect and shifted to Katie’s other aspect . Currently would allow her to spend mana to control the earth around her. She stomped her foot sending a spike of rock to the demon’s chest.

As the rock spike hit the demon's chest, it let out a deafening roar. Cara took advantage of the momentary distraction and rushed towards the demon wielding her chair as a club. She swung it as hard as she could, dealing the final blow against the demon. Cara let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding and collapsed onto the ground, exhausted. She looked up to see Jordan and Katie running towards her, concern etched on their faces.

"You okay?" Jordan asked, helping her up.

Cara nodded, "I'm fine"

Katie hugged her, "You were amazing, Cara! You took down a demon!"

Cara settled back into her seat, her heart still racing from the battle with the demon. As she calmed down, she glanced over at the computer screen and saw a new notification: . A small smile crossed her face as she clicked on the notification to see her stat screen for the first time since receiving the system.

She noticed that she had two "Stat Points" available to distribute as she pleased. After a moment's consideration, she decided to increase her Magic and Endurance stats by one each. It seemed like a sensible choice, given the events of the night.
