Chapter 7

“I- Uh… er…” I don’t know what to say!

‘What happens if we speak the truth, is she going to believe us? Or is she going to kill us… or enslave us if she does believe us! There’s a lot of risks involved… okay, Grant stay calm… act like you’re in control of the situation even though you’re not… you’re totally fucked, no matter what you do, you’re probably going to die. The best you can do is-’ I was thinking, but I was interrupted by the merchant.

“Are you heroes?” She asked with sparkling eyes.

“I- er… Yes, we are heroes” I lied.

“This… this is just… Amazing!” She shouted gleefully.

“Grant, what are you doing?” Millie whispered to me as she kicked my leg.

“Shut up, I’m trying to find a way out of this… I’m doing the best I can to get us all out of here alive…” I kicked her back.

“What do you mean alive? She doesn’t seem like that much of a threat, a bullet could easily kill her and her guards… who didn’t even fucking help us in the fight earlier” Millie kicked me back.

“Who knows what this place has, what if they have some sort of enslaving magic or some shit, I’m being careful… so, just trust me… okay?” I asked.

“O-okay… I’ll trust you” Millie replied.

“So, what are you three-” I cut her off.

“Four” I said as I pointed at Roger.

“Four doing here?” she asked inquisitively.

“Adventuring, cooking, hunting mostly just being bored…” I replied honestly.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

“Okay, so… why don’t I recognize you thr- four?” She asked as she reached for her crossbow.

“Because we like to keep our identities secret, you can respect that… can’t you?... Flame, Sparks” I asked, as I made a ball of flame appear in one hand and a ball of lightning in the other.

“Ye-yes I can…” She flinched.

“Good, so… now, we’ll just be on our way in that direction… don’t follow us” I said as I pointed in the opposite direction of our cave… camp.

“Of course, I wouldn’t even dare to follow heroes such as yourselves” She said with a… weird smile on her face.

“Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be off…” Millie, Farengar and I hopped onto Roger, rode in the opposite direction of our camp, hid for a few minutes and rode through the forest to get back to the cave.

“Okay… yeah, that could’ve gotten ugly... “ Millie said.

“See? At least one of us could’ve died just then, just because we’re stronger… doesn’t mean we can beat numbers... especially after we’ve exhausted some of our resources fighting another group… like the bandits” I said.

“That is correct my lord” Farengar said with a smile on his face.

“What’re you smiling about Farengar?” I asked.

“Well, that merchant was quite the beauty, was she not?” Farengar asked.

“I will admit… she was pretty hot, but I’m not dumb enough to think that being beautiful automatically makes you good… remember, some of those bandit women were pretty good looking” I said wisely.

“Well said sir! Ha ha! Good thing I was testing you, right? I’m not that much of an idiot! Ha ha!” Farengar replied while laughing awkwardly.

“Let’s just get back, I want to try something…” I said as we returned to the cave.

It took a while, but since we knew where we were going, it took a lot less time than it took getting there.

“What do you want to try, my lord?” Farengar asked.

“Yeah Grant, what do you actually want to try… I’m curious” Millie asked.

“System, do I have access to everything from the elder scrolls series?” I asked.

Yes sir, well… not completely, you can’t get everything from the previous games until you level up some more.

“Okay… but, where the hell is my inventory?” I asked.

Just say inventory, without any other words in the sentence.

“And you didn’t tell me this, why?” I asked.

You simply never asked.

“Fuck you!” I shouted.

Love you too, sir~

“Grah!” I shouted in anger as I punched the wall of the cave, hurting my hand… a lot.

“...Inventory” As I said that, a screen showing a bunch of blank slots showed up.

I tried putting a stick in the inventory and it disappeared, turning into a word on the inventory screen saying “Stick”.

“Well, that’s actually really useful!” I said happily as I experimented with the inventory throughout the night. Until Millie dragged me into bed and went to sleep herself.

I fell asleep.
