Who am I? Strangely, I have no idea.
But who cares! I can use magic!
Last night, I slept in my bed, under the ceiling of my room of my house where I live alone.
Then how the FUCK did I wake up in a different world? You think I know that? I don't even know my freaking name!
There are some bits and pieces of my memory missing. But everything about it is similar, somehow. I can't remember my past self's name or family. I can remember incidents I went through in my life but none of the faces of those I met. Though I know I met them, somehow their faces are blurry when I try to remember.
So in short, I remember my previous life but no individuals from it. Not even myself.
Now just like there were some parts in my memory that were missing, there are some parts...there... that I have no idea about. Its magic.
Though even with that, its very limited. Limited as in, I only KNOW that I have the magic. I know that it exists, exists within me. But that's it. I have no idea how to use it or what it does. No, actually I do have an idea how to use it. Call it instinct, if you may but its hard to explain. Take something, for example, that you have done far in the past, an activity that you no longer do and don't even remember that you did it once. Now a time comes when you do it again, and somehow you have an idea how to do it. You get the feeling?
Following the strange feeling, I tried something. Even I am not sure what I tried as it is my first time. First time seeing, hearing, feeling. Somehow, the feeling got stronger and I knew instinctively that more was to be done. Now since I had no idea what I had done till now, doing more was not an option. But I did it anyway. How, you ask? By this time, you should know my answer.
Maybe it was a subconscious effort? But now that I could see it in front of me, I was starting to gain an understanding.
I could connect places. That was my magic. Some may call it teleportation or opening a gate to another place, a mix of both. But mine was more versatile and complex, something I would find out soon enough.
In front of me were 2 small gates, side by side about the size of my palm. Looking though either was a different view: the left gate showed my left leg while the right one showed my right leg. It was sort of like a mirror with a shifted view.
Author Note: Here I made a diagram of how it works.

I found a stone on the ground and threw it in one of the gates. It came out from the other with the same momentum and speed.
Wow.
It was marvelous. A technology like this had never existed in my original world. If it did, how awesome would it be!? There wouldn't be any need for transportation! I could wake up late without having to care to miss my bus when I was in school!
Hmm.

But those school days had passed. I was now old enough to have a job, even though I didn't have one. In fact, I was scheduled for an interview tomorrow, but that's in the gutter now.
Back to my point. I was old enough to have a decent life experience and one thing I will always remember is to not put your hand in a place when you don't know who'll bite it.
Even though I used it as a metaphor, right now I mean it in a literal sense.
I am not putting my hand into the 'Gate' till I know more about it.
Needless to say, its time for some experiments.
Firstly, I tried closing the previous gates and they closed easily without a problem.
Next, I tried opening the gates in a similar fashion just to see if I could do it. And I could. I threw the stone in again and it worked just like the last time.
I went around to see what its like behind the Gate. The result? They didn't exist.
I went in front again, and they were there like normal but weren't visible from the back.
No, wait. How do I know its visible in the front?
The Gate wasn't something physical, as far as I could guess, so how did I know it existed?
......The different view.
If I look at it from the front, I can't see what is behind it but a different part of the land. Even though its the same land, you can tell the scenery is cut off from the edges as it doesn't match. There was no such thing behind it. I tried throwing the stone again, this time at its back, expecting it to pass through but it bounced back, as if, off a wall. An invisible wall. And so it WAS, an invisible wall. I tore off a leaf of grass and tried poking around at its back and really, the grass wouldn't go through. Only at the side, something strange happened. The grass got cut off.
It was strange but understandable. One part of the grass trying to go through the Gate while the other struggling through an invisible wall.
Next I opened the gates one over the other such that they were parallel and facing each other. It worked so it meant it could be opened in any orientation. I carefully placed my fingers between the Gates and dropped a stone. With nothing to stop it, the stone kept falling in an endless loop through and through.
I didn't close the infinite stone loop Gate and opened another one.
Since the explainations are taking too long, how about I just tell you the results?
1. I can open the Gates in any shape and size but the pair connecting each other have to be identical.
2. Anything, atleast something as hard as a stone can get easily sliced through if it passes through the edge of the Gate.
3. I can't open the gate where a solid already exists. I can instead open it, put a solid halfway through and THEN close it, resulting in the 2 halfs being seperated. And as I say, I can't open it though a solid, that is to specify the solid part. Because I CAN open it in air. Liquid, I can't try unless I find a water source.
4. The back of the gate cannot be broken through no matter what. Its like an invisible impassable wall.
5. When going through a gate, momentum is conserved and gravity acts on the 2 different areas differently and individually. This point might require a bit of explaining, so here I go.
If I look back to the Gates I opened the first, the ones that appeared side by side and rotate one of them by a hundred and eighty degrees, what do you think will happen? I tried it and something amazing happened. I was actually able to balance a stone mid air and it was thus floating! It was only for a second before it started rotating and disoriented.
Let me explain.
First the easy version. Imagine a wheel and draw a line vertically passing through its axis. Now apply equal and opposite forces on the two parts divided by the line and walah, it startes rotating.
Spoiler: Spoiler
Author Note:
This is actually in the cover image. When I made the image, I made a very thin line passing through the stone but it is not visible anymore because of de-pixelation.
If you want the more complicated and geeky version, here I go. When I suspend the stone through the gate, there is the same 'equal and opposite' force keeping it balanced mid-air, PROVIDED its centre of gravity lies exactly at the point of the gate. Now since the forces act in two different regions, a torque is induced causing rotation. With rotation, comes the role of centrifugal force which disorients the stone due to its uneven or non-uniform nature.
As you can probably tell, I was a bit of a physics nerd in high school.
Oh well, for now I guess that takes care of my experiments. Now to try it on myself.
