Chapter 4

I woke up in the middle of a forest. I didn’t know where I was or how I had gotten there. I rolled over and tried to sit up but found that I couldn’t move. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

My body felt strange. My hands and feet felt like they were made of rubber, and I couldn’t feel them at all. I opened my eyes again and this time I was able to make out the shapes of trees and bushes around me. I stood up and my body still felt strange, but I was able to move again.

My body was still different, but now that I was able to move again, I was able to take a closer look at myself. I was small, much smaller than I was when I was human. My body was covered in feathers, some light brown, some white, and some gray. I had a beak instead of a nose and two curved black horns that stuck out from the top of my head.

I turned around and looked at my body again. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was a chicken! I lifted my wings and shook them, expecting to feel something move, but my wings were just as heavy as my human body had been.

My body felt strange and different, but I didn’t have much time to think about it. I heard a rustling in the bushes next to me, and then a small voice came from above my head. “Hello, little chicken.” I looked up and saw a small white bird standing in the tree next to me.

I looked down at myself and then back up at the bird in the tree. I didn’t understand what was going on. I was a chicken and now I was speaking to a bird. I began to walk forward and the bird flew away into the tree.

I jumped on top of the tree and turned around. I looked back at the bird in the tree and saw that it was no longer there. I was alone.

I looked down at myself again, and I still didn’t understand anything. I felt the side of my neck in confusion and in surprise found a strange tattoo on it.

I reached up and touched the tattoo on my neck. It felt strange and cold to the touch. I couldn’t remember having it before. I pulled my wing back and tried to look at it again. It was a beautiful tattoo, but I couldn’t figure out what it meant.

“Welcome to Pandora, Kevin.”

I heard a voice suddenly. I turned around, but there was no one in sight. It was a voice that was familiar to me, but I couldn’t place it.

“Kevin,” it said again. “Welcome to Pandora”

I looked around again, but there was still no one in sight. It was a voice that was familiar to me, but I couldn’t place it. I looked down at myself and then back up at the tree. I was still in the forest, but now I had a strange feeling of dread in my stomach.

“You’re a little chicken, aren’t you?”

"Huh!" I managed to squawk out. I wasn't sure if that was meant to be an insult. But I didn't want any more reminders of what I was. A pathetic little chicken.

"Well, I guess we should get started...first you have to find a cave. Good luck chicken" the voice said in my head.

"Cave?" I asked as I looked up again and saw two mountains. I looked down at my tiny body, sighed, and then picked one and began to walk towards it. I hoped that I was right in picking the mountain and that it would have the cave I needed. I had to get into it and find a way out of this strange world...if possible.

"Not that one" the voice came again, sounding stern this time.

Sighing and shaking my large head, I turned to the other mountain and began making my long walk towards it.
