(6) Tutorial Arc - Part Six

Battle Start! Squire Versus TrinitySerpent!

TrinitySerpent(1) rears up!

TrinitySerpent(2) rears up!

TrinitySerpent(3) rears up!

It's a rather strange creature. At first it looks like a two headed snake with a long tail dragging behind it, only it turns out that the tail is, in fact, another head. I guess it's useful for being able to see in all directions, but it seems like a bit of an impractical design, overall. Each of the heads has a slightly different scale coloring, which fade and merge into black at the main body, if such a thing even truly exists, but thankfully these colorings don't seem to represent any sort of unique powers or dangerous breath that each head has. I guess that it's just for style? Anyways, I'm not the same dog that I was back then! It's time to settle this!

Squire uses Divine Strike!

TrinitySerpent(1) suffers 195 point(s) of damage!

Critical hit! TrinitySerpent(2) suffers 360 point(s) of damage!

TrinitySerpent(3) suffers 179 point(s) of damage!

It's still coming, but that second head (I wonder what standard the naming is based on? How is it decided which head is the 'first' one?) looks to be in pretty rough shape, and I clearly inflicted far more than just a flesh wound upon the other two as well.

TrinitySerpent(1) strikes and misses!

TrinitySerpent(2) strikes and misses!

TrinitySerpent(3) strikes and misses!

I may have been tanking a lot of attacks so far in my journey, but I'm pretty quick on my feet, and while three heads might be great for biting three times as hard, it does little to improve the maneuverability of the creature, especially since they don't appear to be very coordinated. It was an honorable opponent... sort of, but now it's time to finish this!

Squire uses Divine Strike! Nothing happens...

Huh?

TrinitySerpent(2) strikes!

Squire's HP has been reduced to 37!

TrinitySerpent(3) strikes!

Squire suffers 19 point(s) of damage!

Squire's HP has been reduced to 18!

Why didn't that work? Is there a timer or some sort of resource that it requires? It's bad enough that it didn't actually do any damage, but I was so caught off guard that I left myself wide open to an attack! The three headed serpent might not be able to move that large, awkward body very quickly, but it can certainly strike fast when necessary! I'm just lucky that it failed to grapple me. Otherwise, I would have been in serious trouble.

It's my fault, in truth, for relying so heavily on that newfound power. Well, only one thing to do now...

Squire retreats!

TrinitySerpent(1) gives chase!

TrinitySerpent(3) gives chase!

TrinitySerpent(2) tries to retreat but fails!

I can't say that I'm too surprised by the fact that it's chasing after me (well, most of it... the more wounded head is kind of being dragged along against its will). I don't plan on giving up either, but I need to create a little distance between it and myself. Sure, I'm quicker, but there are three of it and only one of me, and a single lucky strike from any of the heads could kill me, and then it would continue to hunt the villagers, and my master would still be in danger.

I can't run too far, though. I don't want to get out of its aggro range, otherwise all of the progress I'd made so far would be lost. I dart around a series of thick threes, and try to put my new ability to the test.

Squire uses Lay on Paws!

Squire is healed for 32 Hit Point(s) of damage!

Squire's HP is now 50!

Wow, that's really good! I guess I shouldn't be surprised, considering how powerful Divine Strike turned out to be.

TrinitySerpent(3) strikes!

Squire suffers 15 point(s) of damage!

Squire's HP is now 35!

TrinitySerpent(1) strikes but is out of range!

TrinitySerpent(2) strikes but is out of range!

Ugh, I really need to learn to stop letting my guard down. This monster is quicker than I thought. Had all three been able to attack, I might have been in serious trouble, but luckily, only one head could fit through the gap between the trees, the other two trying to awkwardly curl around them. It's definitely not very coordinated. I'm not complaining, though. Now, it's a one on one fight, against a creature with severely reduced mobility. I can handle this!

Squire attacks! TrinitySerpent(3) suffers 43 point(s) of damage!

Not bad! Still a lot weaker than the divine strike, but way harder than I used to hit FrontDoor for!

Perhaps I should have withdrawn out of the serpents range and tried to heal again, but that felt like a dishonorable way to fight. I can't really use that ability while on the move, either, so if I do stay here, it will inevitably leave me open to an attack that I can't dodge, or worse, like my Divine Strike earlier, it might fail entirely. All that remains is to fight! It goes rather predictably, with the other two heads still essentially trapped, trying to mindlessly brute force their way forward. As for my current opponent, it's still not weak, and I have a few close calls before eventually...

Squire attacks!

Critical hit! TrinitySerpent(3) suffers 98 point(s) of damage!

TrinitySerpent(3) has been defeated!

Yay! One down, two to go! Unfortunately, with the one attacking head (or neck, more accurately, the head itself now completely severed) now lying limp and exerting no pressure on the others, the remaining pair pull free, slithering around the trees, ready to face me. This battle isn't over yet!

TrinitySerpent(1) begins to devour TrinitySerpent(3)!

TrinitySerpent(2) attacks TrinitySerpent(1)!

TrinitySerpent(1) suffers 10 point(s) of damage!

What's going on? We're in the middle of a fight here! Are they seriously stopping to eat their own sibling? And then fighting over who gets to eat their own sibling? Wait, is it a sibling or a part of its own body? Well who cares! It's disgusting either way! Show some respect for your fallen... whatever it is!

Squire uses Divine Strike!

TrinitySerpent(1) suffers 190 point(s) of damage!

TrinitySerpent(1) is defeated!

Critical hit! TrinitySerpent(2) suffers 336 point(s) of damage!

TrinitySerpent(2) is defeated!

Wow, poor TrinitySerpent(2), getting hit with a critical twice in a row like that. Oh well.

Squire has won the battle and earned 1200 Experience Point(s) and 250 Gold(s)!

Squire has become a level 7 Paladin (rank 2)! ----

Strength is now 33! (+9 point(s)!)

Endurance is now 44! (+12 point(s)!)

Agility is now 44! (+12 point(s)!)

Intelligence is now 16! (+3 point(s)!)

Faith is now 88! (+24 point(s)!)

Charisma is now 70! (+21 point(s)!)

Squire has gained 24 maximum HP!

I really need to figure out how numbers work one of these days. Good job, me!
