Chapter 5 - The Brother's Arrival

Chapter 5 - The Brother's Arrival

A day before Arx's enrollment in Yribdeinos, Ptachrisch, the venerable head of the school, summoned Aleria.

Ptachrisch: "Aleria, your performance across all subjects has been exceptional. As such, I have a special task for you. I'm assigning you a Mission of Subjugation. In the countryside of Agryz, northeast of here, lies a once peaceful town that descended into chaos overnight. A survivor managed to reach us and provide the details. He recounted a typical evening of logging when suddenly, an explosion shattered the peace. Panic ensued among the townsfolk, accompanied by a distant roar that struck fear into their hearts. According to him, it's the unmistakable sign of Soltheodon."

Soltheodon, a behemoth wreathed in swirling mist and shadow, its form obscured by a haze of darkness. Its massive wings, spanning the length of a village, cast ominous shadows upon the land below. Glowing crimson eyes pierce through the mist like burning embers, instilling fear in all who dare to gaze upon it.

Ptachrisch: "Soltheodon is one of Sythragos' offspring, stirring from its slumber. Though challenging, every creature has its weakness. In this case, target its lower body or belly."

Aleria: "School head, how did you come to know its weaknesses?"

Ptachrisch: "I've lived for 2500 years, my dear. What do you expect? Anyways, you may depart now. You may also bring companions with you to assist throughout your mission."

Aleria: "Understood, I shall take my leave now."

Later that day, she departed with a horse and brought along her companion, her best friend Rheylieanne.

...

After a day of traveling, they arrived where the incident took place. They were surprised to find the town in ruins, almost burned to ashes. Suddenly, a dark mist began to spread, narrowing their vision. Both girls then assumed defensive positions with their backs against each other.

Aleria: "Don't let your guard down."

Rheylieanne: "Well, yeah, obviously-"

Rheylieanne then noticed glowing crimson eyes among the mist, fixated upon them. The figure opened its mouth, preparing to unleash its breath.

Rheylieanne: "Crap! Watch out!"

A massive fireball shot out from the mist at an incomprehensible speed. Fortunately, both Aleria and Rheylieanne managed to dodge the incoming attack. The fireball cleared the mist, revealing the figure responsible for the assault. Standing before them was the dragon of mist, Soltheodon. It launched another fireball from its mouth, but the girls narrowly evaded the ferocious attack once again. The air crackled with tension as Aleria and Rheylieanne faced off against the formidable dragon, its towering presence casting a shadow over the ruins of the town. Aleria gritted her teeth, frustration evident in her voice.

Aleria: "Tch, it truly is troublesome."

She charged at the beast with overwhelming speed, her sword slashing through the air with precision as it met the dragon's arm. But to her dismay, the creature's scale merely cracked under her attack. With a swift motion, the dragon retaliated, whipping its tail and sending Aleria hurtling towards the nearby structures.

Meanwhile, Rheylieanne channeled her magic onto her bow, crafting a wind arrow with focused determination. Her senses honed in on the target, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. With a determined exhale, she released the arrow, aiming for the dragon's head. However, despite her accuracy, the arrow barely made a dent in the dragon's tough hide.

Rheylieanne: "Damn it... there's no other way, huh? Fine then, I'll be your guest."

She shifted into a defensive stance, bracing herself for the dragon's next assault. As the beast unleashed a deafening roar, Rheylieanne recoiled, the sound reverberating in her ears.

Rheylieanne: "Agh!"

Seizing the opportunity, the dragon lunged towards Rheylieanne, exposing its vulnerable underside.

Rheylieanne: "Aleria, now!"

In a blur of motion, Aleria darted forward, her sword trailing a spiral of deadly energy as it sliced through the dragon's lower torso. The creature staggered back, its body riddled with seven gaping wounds. With grim determination, Aleria stepped forward, channeling her dark and flame magic into a devistating final attack, she raised her hand, preparing to unleash a torrent of dark flame upon the dragon.

Rheylieanne: "Hey, hey!"

Rheylieanne's voice broke through Aleria's focused concentration, bringing her back to reality in the critical moment before she unleashed her devastating attack.

Rheylieanne: "Don't burn it off, we're going to return to the capital with it."

Aleria: "Sorry, I hadn't thought about that."

A day later, they returned to Yribdeinos, each of them carrying half of the dragon's remains. They were greeted by their schoolmates, congratulating them for achieving such a feat of slaying a dragon. Aleria was informed that someone had been looking for her since their enrollment. She dismounted her horse and walked through the courtyard, Rheylieanne accompanying her out of curiosity.

Aleria: "Brother..."

She was at a loss for words as she spotted her brother, standing victorious against multiple students.

Rheylieanne: "That's your brother? He seems strong..."

Arx: "Aleria, I've been waiting."

Aleria whispered to herself,

Aleria: "Brother, why are you here?"

Arx: "Mother has been worried about you, she sent you letters, but you've yet to respond."

Aleria: "I apologize, I was tasked by the school head in the countryside."

The school head, Ptachrisch, interrupted from the corridor as Aleria and Rheylieanne stood in the courtyard. The sounds of battle faded away, leaving an air of tension. He regarded them seriously.

Ptachrisch: "Aleria, Rheylieanne, you've earned a break. Take a week off to rest, heal, and prepare for what's next."

The girls, tired yet relieved, accepted the respite gratefully.

...

A week later, under the Agryz canopy, Ptachrisch summoned them once more. Attendants held two relics crafted from Soltheodon's remains before them.

Ptachrisch: "These are your vassal relics, each carrying the essence of Soltheodon. Aleria, your rapier shall be known as 'Solarthrust,' and Rheylieanne, your bow, 'Eclipsight.' May they carry the spirit of your conquest."

Aleria and Rheylieanne exchanged glances, fingers tracing the ornate details of Solarthrust and Eclipsight.

Ptachrisch: "These relics aren't just weapons; they're vessels of power, forged from the very essence of the dragon you subdued. Wield them with honor and purpose. Return to your training, for the shadows may stir again. The week of respite has ended, and the path to mastery awaits."
