Chapter 38 - Port City of Lanafal

Chapter 38 - Port City of Lanafal

Hey guys! Sorry for the short hiatus. I got really busy and I didn't have much time really. College has started and I've finished testing the waters and am now in the process of getting more time to write. That's pretty much my problem, time. I have schoolwork and work and I can see some times that I can work on this but, if I don't get a chapter out, its because I'm busy with real life stuff.

Again, I will never drop this, and even if you don't hear from me, I am thinking of the story and trying to find the time to write it. I will still try to do the chapter a week thing but I'm pretty sure that there will be days that I can't really work on it.

Enjoy the chapter!

Alexandra was quiet the whole time we were talking about what to do when suddenly she yelled out and had an “I got it” expression.

“What is it Alexandra?” asked Leon.

She looked at us and said, “When we were in father’s room, I was wondering what that dark aura was. I had felt it before in the cathedral but I just had a hard time remembering what it was earlier.”

My mother started sobbing when Alexandra said, “father’s room”. The twins comforted her as we listened to Alexandra.

“Now I remember, that was the feeling of the False God.”

“False God?” asked Salazar.

She nodded and said, “You remember that we were told that our world was created by Ongarin, Magus, Blangvina, Julia and Finda right?”

We nodded, everyone knew this story of how the world began.

“Well,” she continued, “there’s another part of that story. That there was another God with them, he’s known as the False God, the god of Power, Destruction and Ambition.”

“Here’s how the story goes:

When the world was not yet made, even before Ongarin decided to create the world. The False God, created a small world. A world only for him to come and go. Ongarin, on seeing this, was inspired to create one for everyone to live in.

All was well, until the False God became envious of the world created by Ongarin that he attacked him. The False God was then defeated with the might of Ongarin and the other gods. His body was shattered and scattered everywhere.

That’s the story, it is said that his body is repairing itself in a land that no one has ever been and many think that he is in the Junx continent but then no one has been there yet at all.”

Doesn’t the False God have a name?” I asked very curious on this story.

“Not in any of the records that we have, this was just recently found and the only reason I knew of it was that my master was in charge of deciphering the ancient texts. The text it was written on had the same aura that I felt earlier that’s why I was trying to remember what it was.”

“That traitor did mention a God,” said Salazar, “would it be him?”

“I can’t say for sure”, said Alexandra, ”but it possibly is.”

After telling her story, we continued our journey to the Lunaria Federation. Its been two days since the “Rebellion” as we’ve come to call it. Mother is still crying but much more infrequently now.

We were headed for Lanafal, the largest port city of the Rigel Kingdom. Hopefully we would be able to get a ship and leave for the Lunaria Federation without any problems.

“How much further?” asked Alex.

“Just a few more hours and we’ll be able to see the walls,” said Salazar.

“What’s the sea like?” asked Kaiser.

“The sea is a giant lake that you can’t drink,” said Sasha.

“Isn’t that useless?” said Kaiser.

After thinking about it a little she said, “Yeah it is isn’t it.”

They continued this talk until we saw the city walls.

Lanafal was a giant city made out of coral stone. It comes from a giant underwater cave that they mine from by going through a tunnel they created aboveground. Coral stone is very resilient and slippery. Anything that comes into contact with it loses its grip, using this, the city cannot be attacked from the land by using ladders. It also has another property of absorbing sea water. It uses the absorbed sea water to prevent any ships from getting close. This is what makes Lanafal such a strong naval city.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

Aside from being a naval base, it also is a great economic power. It is our third largest city because of its capability of protecting businesses within the city. Of course, with this there is also the expansion of the black market. The black market controls most of the city’s gambling and auction houses. The rest is handled by the Merchant Coalition, a group of merchants that combined their power to set rules and have all merchants follow the rules. There’s a rumor that the Merchant Coalition is also in charge of the Black market, but such thoughts are stamped out by that person suddenly disappearing.

Entering the city usually requires a letter of proof that you have to get from other cities. This stops bandits from entering. The poor that cannot enter have to stay within the outskirts. The city is then separated into two districts, the Inner and Outer district. The Inner district is where the rich or those that have letters can enter, this is where the military is mostly concentrated and the Outer district is where the poor and the shops are located.

We didn’t have to go through the usual procedure as the guards in this city are well aware of our names so they just let us in fairly quickly. Suffice to say that I think it was a bit too conspicuous as they shouted out our presence.

The Inner district was as grand as I thought it would be. There was a shine of gold and white as large buildings rose to the skies. The buildings were made of Golden Coral Stone. A rarer form of Coral Stone. This form can even absorb wind and use it against ships or stray monsters that come from the air. There were parks and small lakes littered around as if the Inner district was its own city and was not next to the sea.

We decided to stay in Lanafal for some time until we could get safe passage to the Lunaria Federation.

We walked to the Halo Hotel, the most expensive hotel in the city. We chose this place because mother needed expert care and that the hotel does not ask too many questions.

When we got there we were greeted by a group of butlers and maids saying, “Welcome back master.”

We were startled a bit to say the least and a man come in front of the butlers and maids. I was too busy making sure that we were safe that I didn’t catch what they were saying but it did seem like the man knew Leon and the reason for the butlers and maids was him.

“You should’ve told me about this place!” whispered Salazar to Leon.

“Shut up and keep quiet,” whispered Leon, “this place is great especially at night. I’ll tell you more later.”

I was the only one who could hear them as I was right behind them. “Leon what were you doing here?” I asked myself and hoped that no one else heard. I mean, they’re princes so that much is obvious but hearing about it is just…

Anyway, we were led to our own suite. We had a whole floor to ourselves where we divided up into our own rooms except for Sasha and I. For some reason, everyone was smiling while Sasha and I hid our faces as I thought, “Do they expect anything right now?!”

We also had our own dining table where at dinner time, the hotel brought us many fantastic dishes. We were served boiled oysters, baked salmon, grilled squid, and drinks of red wine.

Sasha and I sat together as everyone else sat around us as we ate the food. It was deliciously good food. Kaiser was very curious as it was the first time he had ever seen any seafood.

The oysters were boiled with chicken broth and topped with parsley. The baked salmon was made with a thick layer of this sweet sauce that just made the juices of the salmon explode in your mouth as you bit into it. The squid was grilled to such a perfect color that each bite felt as if we were biting into a soft turtle shell. The effects of the wine just maximized the texture of each dish whenever we drank.

Sasha and I fed each other food as we ate. We already sat next to each other but it seemed that we just got closer and closer after every piece of wood that we ate. In no time at all, everyone was laughing and drinking all around us, probably to forget what happened. Even mother was no longer crying.

I don’t remember when but suddenly I found that Sasha and I were alone in our room. She looked stunningly beautiful as I leaned in to kiss her and then all went black.
