Chapter 12

The communications technician looks to Alexis. “We are getting a signal from the Command Bunker using proper call signs. I am transferring it to your screen.”

The screen lights up and a old man in a red uniform with a lot of metals stares at her. “I am High State Security Commander. I am in charge and very displeased you did not follow previous orders.”

“State Security is not in my chain of command. I demand to speak to either Military command or the Premier.”

The old man leans back in his padded chair. “The Military was disbanded after they tried coup a hundred years ago. The Premier position and the Party has been dispersed for 40 years on the charges of corrupted of thought. I am in command and you will submit to my lawful orders.” He stabs down a finger on his deck to emphasize the order. A grin comes to his face afterward. “You and your crew will transferred over to State Security as a special branch under my direct command.”

Alexis narrows her eyes and keeps staring at the man. “You are telling me the Premier, Military and the Party are no longer present?”

The old man waves a hand, “Long gone and so it is me. With what you brought to me I will be able to restore our Country back to prominence.”

She suddenly gets a brutal headache causing her to hold her head ignoring everything else. Some blood comes out of her left nostril. That takes a minute before she can think for herself again and looks over as she muting the man who has kept on talking. “Unit 2, with what has been informed to us list who should be in line of leadership.”

The cold machine voice comes from a speaks. “Leadership of the Great Country is first in hands of the Premier and then the Party Council. That is follows by the chain of Military command should they be prevented from taking over.”

“As I thought myself... Check if Operation Omega Psi is possible.” She turns to the screen where the old man is looking annoyed at her wiping away the blood on her upper lip. She turns it off mute. “I had to check information and with such I will have to inform you of my findings. As the Party is no longer available and no Premier is in command it falls on the Military to lead the Great Country. I am the current highest ranking member of it.”

There is a murmur on the bridge at her words and the crew is all watching her.

“Therefore with humility I am taking command of the Great Country as temporary Premier until we have time to reestablish the Party.”

The old man growls, “You want to try to grab my power? Listen here I run the Country and will not be giving it up to you. I am giving you a good position, you would be a fool not to take. All you got is some old ship in orbit. I got a hundred-thousand State Security troops here. Try to take me down. I will see you buried just like all the other Military fools before you.”

Alexis sighs, “You do not get it. I am not in it for myself. I am just following orders given to me.” She mutes him again and looks to combat section. “Arm and launch the second of five. Target is that traitor. This is a direct order.”

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

The bridge crew is stunned trying to keep up with the new changes. One of the crewmen turns to the console but Unit 2 responds, “Firing the second of five.” This keeps the crew silent turning back to their systems.

Alexis unmutes the man again and looks at him. “I am going to warn you...”

The old man interrupts her with anger in his voice, “Listen up you black-wearing whore. We got rid of you and your sorts a century ago. This Country is not the same one you knew and the law of the land has changed with the times. I suggest you get on board with me and enjoy life or you will not have one.”

“Are you going to let me speak?” Alexis asks him even colder then normal.

“You can speak till you run our of oxygen. I am waiting for you to say 'yes sir' and get our of that black jacket.”

The two stare at each other. This goes on for minutes before the old man gets distracted by a loud beeping on his desk. He stabs down and a panicked voice comes from the speaker. “Sir we got an incoming stealth warhead from the ship in orbit. It will hit in minutes.”

The old man looks stunned and before he can get his thoughts in order Alexis turns off the connection. “Unit 2 is Omega Psi possible?”

The artificial intelligence speaks out. “Connection has been made with 10 bunkers inside the currently country's borders. There is another 2 outside of the border that has also responded and able to engage.”

Alexis leans back in her chair. A hint of a tear glimmers at the edge of her eyes. “Command is given for Operation Omega Psi to engage with rebel forces of the State Security. Code for it is Dark Rising.”

The bridge crew is confused over the words Alexis is saying. Tactical crewman look as the tracking hits a site on Earth. There blossoming of a green sphere where ones stood the massive bunker complex of the Great Country. He gasps, “Its gone.”

Unit 2 speaks, “Boring machines are breaking the crust and the Warborgs will surface in twenty minutes to retake the Great Country from the rebel element.”

The crew looks over and one of the most surprising sights happens. Alexis the hard woman in black is staring at the screens with tears going down her face.

Eipiloge

The recorder looks up from his writing. “Great General are you sure. I know you did many questionable things before sending us on the great exodus from Earth to this planet but is this really your history?”

The old woman dressed in a simple but bulky black uniform just sits there. It lacks any rank or medals. He knows if she did wear all her awards she would be bullet proof with all the metals that would grace her chest. “Official Historian Felir many would question my life and even I have late at night, namely after heavy drinking... But it is the truth.”

“To claim to be an expendable and end up the greatest hero in our great county's history is hard to believe. You made the new Party with a more liberal agenda then the previous. Had the old shuttle system built and expanded to ship 90% of the population frozen to a new world out of reach of the old. We have effectively left the Sol system on your orders.”

Her metal left hand lift a bottle refilling a crystal glass with a potent smelling clear alcohol. “I do not have long left. I think there are two others alive from when... I did my first voyage to Great Home.”

“The Premier will feel some of this is questionable for your and the Great Country's legacy.”

The woman does a long drink, “My legacy is what I told you. How much of it is openly let known or censored is not my problem.”

“History is written by the victors.”

“Yes, I have heard of that. Was I a victor, victim, or a survivor? You do not have to answer that. We both know likely I am simply all the above. I do not feel it but I feel very little with what is left.” The whine of metal motors help propel the woman to stand. “I must retire and recharge the batteries of my life support, good day Citizen.”

The recorder gets up and salutes, “Good night Great General.”
