"Please~ Don’t you and my Harry have a very good relationship? Why did you break up?"
Mayor Oz insisted on hugging Hannah affectionately, but Hannah's face tensed up with annoyance and she sidestepped, clearly eager to distance herself from any notion of a relationship.
Seeing Hannah's reaction, Allen, standing by, felt a mix of surprise and disappointment, his eyes awkwardly shifting around, unsure where to look.
Seeing Allen's discomfort, Hannah looked at him and responded to Mayor Oz:
"Your son... just like you, can't seem to focus on one person seriously. You should know that very well. There's no way I'm getting back with him!"
Hannah looked Allen in the eye as she spoke, clearly making her point directed at him.
Mayor Oz, somewhat deflated, waved his hand dismissively, saying,
"Forget it!...You are right! That bastard is not worthy of you!"
Feeling like Hannah had hit the nail on the head, Allen stuttered,
"I... didn't think about anything. Who doesn't?."
But Hannah, with a deadpan expression and a smirk, interrupted, "Do you?"
Allen hesitated, "I!..."
Before Alan could even utter a word, Mayor Oz seemed to get a bit impatient with their ambiguous conversation and jumped in,
"Excuse me! Are you two here specifically to flirt with each other? And who is this young man? What exactly do you want from me?"
After a moment of awkward silence between the three, Hannah finally stated their purpose...
As Hannah explained, Mayor Oz led them to a dimly lit, spacious area and reached for what seemed like a power switch, flicking it on. In an instant, the lights illuminated the area, revealing a breathtaking sight before Allen's eyes.
Before them stood a massive power plant in the center of what used to be a baseball field, complete with advanced cooling and wastewater treatment systems. Complex pipelines snaked throughout the entire field, ultimately serving the entire city. Most astonishingly, a section of the roof was lined with drones, a truly impressive sight.
Allen also noticed they were standing on a platform filled with various control panels, which seemed to operate automatically based on the displays.
No wonder Ethan was so eager to break in here; this was the lifeline of the entire city of Atlanta.
Although Allen was amazed, Hannah remained calm. This was nothing new to her, having snuck in to see it all from a young age.
"You want me to deliberately slow down the drones rebuilding the wall so that only the Sprinters get through? Do you know what you're talking about?"
Mayor Oz, dropping his frivolous attitude, stood with his hands on his hips, making sure Hannah understood the seriousness of her proposal.
To his surprise, Hannah responded firmly,
"I know it's risky, but this is the only way we stand a chance at taking down Ethan, because he's absolutely psychotic about killing zombies... He'll definitely lead the team himself on the front lines; it's the only way."
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Mayor Oz nodded reluctantly, begrudgingly agreeing to the plan but with a solemn warning,
"Capturing that psycho who's been trying to nab me as soon as he steps in is a good thing, but I have to be honest with you... this is the last time the drones will be deployed. We're running out of materials to patch up the wall... only enough for this one time. In other words... we only have one chance. If a behemoth-level zombie manages to break through before the repairs are complete, it's game over! Think about it..."
Hannah responded with a determined look,
"I know... I'll take responsibility."
Seeing Hannah's unwavering determination, Mayor Oz sighed and reluctantly acquiesced.
"Your eyes really remind me of your mom... Speaking of which, how's your dad? Too bad I can't go see him either... sigh..."
Hannah seemed reluctant to talk about her father, Commander Hank, who had been half-crippled for a long time, and simply replied,
"Same old thing, you know."
Mayor Oz could sense the pain Hannah didn't want to reveal and refrained from pressing further.
""Alright!... You guys just go back and get ready! Do it your way and catch Ethan!"
With everything settled, Hannah thanked him and prepared to leave with Allen. However, Allen noticed a tunnel in the corner of the field and curiously asked Mayor Oz,
"Mayor Oz, what's that?"
Mayor Oz, looking at Allen appreciatively, leaned in and pointed to the tunnel, saying, "That's a secret tunnel that leads to somewhere outside the city. Whenever I need to go to another city for business, I pass through here to reach a spot outside the city, where aircraft are waiting for me."
Allen felt like there might be something they could use with that tunnel, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. In the end, he just said his goodbyes and left.
As the clock neared 4 PM, on the other side of the outer city wall, dozens of guards were struggling to repair the wall with their bare hands. The progress was painfully slow, not even a tenth of the hole had been filled, and everyone was getting anxious, especially Captain Brad, who couldn't hold back his frustration.
"Since the mayor's back, why hasn't he sent out the building drones to fix the wall! I can't believe... this is outrageous! It's almost evening, and still no sign of the drones... This can't go on. I'm going to find the mayor!"
With the wall unable to be repaired, the risk of zombie invasion loomed. Brad, infuriated, was about to drive off to find the mayor, but Captain Ingel stepped in to stop him.
"Brad! Don't be reckless! We need to report to Captain Ethan first, or else..."
Hearing that he had to report to Ethan first only fueled Brad's frustration, and he and Ingel got into a tussle. But suddenly, a dark shadow loomed over them, causing them both to stop their quarrel and look up simultaneously.
Hundreds of construction drones filled the sky as they flew in from the inner city—a sight to behold! Finally, Mayor Oz was taking action.
Amidst the cheers, the drones quickly arrived at the site of the breached wall and immediately took over the repair work from the guards, working tirelessly in full automation.
Meanwhile, Captain Claire led her squad to the Guard Headquarters while most of the guards were busy in the outer city. They stealthily entered the computer control room, ready to take control of the street valve system.
On the other side, Bert's squad and David's squad set up a defense line near the northern outer city, close to the inner city, ready to lure zombies and turncoat guards into their trap.
Heather's squad lurked in the northern street, prepared to block other guards from reaching the final destination.
Alexander's squad, on the other hand, had infiltrated the final destination—the 14th Street Viaduct. That's where they planned to capture Ethan, the ultimate showdown location.
At this moment, Allen also arrived at the inner city wall, standing by at the breach, ready for action.
As evening approached, and the entire breach was almost completely repaired, supervisors Ingel and Brad were about to breathe a sigh of relief, but then, an unexpected event occurred...
"Beep beep."
The warning sound of depleted power echoed among the drones, and one by one, they ceased functioning, creating a terrifying sight.
Brad and Ingel were stunned, and tension gripped everyone at the scene.
"What's going on!? How come the drones ran out of power at this critical moment! There's still a tiny bit left to repair!! What do we do?"
Brad, nervous, tried knocking on the drones, attempting to wake them up.
By now, the sun had dipped below the horizon, and the sky was almost completely dark, adding to the chaos.
Seeing the situation, Ingel immediately radioed Ethan...
Upon hearing Ingel's report, Ethan, surprisingly calm, chuckled and replied, "Oh... how convenient, the drones ran out of power at a crucial moment?... leaving behind a little gap... interesting..."
After giving instructions for retreat, Ethan hung up the radio and began laughing uproariously, saying nothing more.
It was as if he had anticipated something to happen...
With Ingel receiving Ethan's orders, he shouted urgently over the radio,
"Fall back! Everyone retreat to the defense line!!! Hurry up"
Everyone at the scene ran for their lives, rushing back to their vehicles to grab their guns and take up their positions. Brad also urgently called for reinforcements from other squads.
At this moment, rain began to pour, accompanied by thunder, and the sun had completely disappeared below the horizon, plunging everything into darkness...
The sound of beeping machines mixed with the roar of thunder, creating an eerie atmosphere. Everyone held their breath, aiming their guns at the unrepaired gap in the wall, waiting anxiously.
Suddenly, a rotten hand emerged from the depths of the gap, signaling the arrival of the zombies.
"they are coming!"
Seeing the zombies arrive as expected, Brad and Ingel's squads of nearly two hundred people loaded their guns and stood firm, ready for the zombie invasion to begin!
Meanwhile, high atop a distant building in the inner city, Hannah watched the scene through binoculars. She spoke into her radio to the entire Anti-Ethan Alliance:
"The revolt begins!"
