Steve turns to face his friend again, because the space is actually too narrow, when they're both lying on their backs. He also wants to speak more quietly. His buddy also turns more to him and tries to whisper: "I didn't want you to think it's because..." Steve continues to be unsettled and Bucky seems to realize it, because he stops and huffs again, only to ask: "Stevie, can you give me your hand for a second? I won't do anything bad.” Steve gives him his right and Bucks hooks their fingers, the way they did as little boys when they were up to something. He then repeats: "Gentleman's agreement, okay?" Steve nods and whispers: "Okay.", so Bucky continues: "Tomorrow morning, we'll pretend nothing happened! We're still best friends and we always will be! And we fight together, and trust each other, and neither lets the other down! Promise?" "Promise! Of course we will, Bucky, we're there for each other, till the end of the line, always!”, Steve assures candid.
Then Cap feels his friend relax, as he loosens his grip, but doesn't let go, and sees Bucks close his eyes, to whisper in the dark: "So, I just want you to know, it's not because you are so huge and super buff now! That... I'm not like that! I'm not that superficial, even if I was with the girls. But not with you! I... really, meant... every word, Stevie!" Cap anxiously holds his breath and listens intent as Bucks confesses: "I thought you were talking about the man. I thought maybe you knew... and said it on purpose. I mean, if you were watching me, I... I was... I just thought you meant the guy and I genuinely think he looked like you and yes you have a nice ass! But you always did!", he swallows uneasy, "I thought so even then. I always, thought, you were, really beautiful, Stevie! And sweet. I thought you were cute. And still do. Has nothing to do with your size, okay? Even if it's different now that I literally have to look up to you.", he clears his throat briefly, "Hrrm, well. I just wanted to set that straight, okay? Maybe... maybe you'll take it as a compliment. And wont punch me for it."

Bucks holds his hand tight and Steve thinks he's shaking a little. He feels the same way himself, his heart pounding up to his throat, and with a dry mouth he whispers back: "Oh, Bucky, that... that's sweet. Uhm, thank you! I think you're handsome too." Bucks giggles a bit: "Kay. Thanks Stevie. Really decent of you...” “I actually thought the guy looked like you!”, Cap blurts. He sees his friend frown, to then ask: "Like me? But... you looked at him anyways? Or not?” Steve finally admits: “I let it slip out. I really did mean the guy. I wasn't thinking that you... I didn't want you to think I was like that. I don't want you to think I'm gross." "I would never find you gross, Stevie!", his buddy insists smiling, "So... did you want to fantasize about him before going to sleep?” As his friend gulps nervously, he adds: “Even though you think he looks like me?” “N-well... not just, well, not quite. A little bit. Actually, I'd rather think about something else.”, Steve explains hurried. It's definitely getting too hot for him, and he has to squeeze Bucky's hand firmly, to suppress his own trembling.

"What else would you rather think of? Will you tell me?”, his friend asks curiously. Steve scoots a little closer, swallows again, and then whispers: "Gentleman's agreement?" "Sure.", Bucky confirms. And then he confesses to him: “Actually, I still think a lot about what I saw with you. I really only watched once, never again! But I think about it almost every time when I... when I touch myself.” His face is hot with embarrassment. Bucks breathes in a bit heavy and wants to know: "Was it that interesting? Me with the girl? Did you like it that much?” “Hmhmm.”, Steve agrees nervously. And Bucks keeps digging: "Do you like to imagine you're me?" So Steve works up all his courage, takes a deep breath, and puts his hand on his friend's cheek, making him flinch. But Cap tries to whisper even softer. So quiet that Bucky has to lift his ear off the pillow to hear his friend reveal: "I imagine I'm the girl!"
Cap hears Bucks gasp, but then sees a smile spread across his face as he whispers back: "Oh Stevie! Me too!" Steve stammers confused: "What, you, you want to be the girl?" "No, I want you!", Bucks quickly clarifies, but then becomes more and more quiet, "I imagine that's you, when... when I got a girl. And she's sitting on me... I'm thinking of you.” He then opens his eyes and looks through the darkness straight into Steve's, surprising him, but his smile gives him a sense of warmth and security. And so Steve bluntly asks his buddy: "Does this mean... Bucky, does that mean you like me too? I mean, you, you like me? Like a girl?” But Bucks grins at him and breathes: “More! Steve, I don't just like you. I love you! And for way longer than any girl!”
