Day 5 part 2

All of us were surprised at the announcement. It seems Greg has already talked about it with Head Eug before he proposed it to me.

“W-who gave you the permission to just decide like that?!”

It was Iris and Catherine who reacted first.

“Oh my!” commented Eunice.

Saveen looked like she doesn’t really care, she was just gazing at the falling waterfalls. Steph on the other hand was doing some… standing push-ups? while the twins began blushing while trying to look away from me with some glances.

Sigh* ‘what should I do?’

“Eu--, I mean, Head Eug. Isn’t it a bit too hasty to advice such a thing?

Look, we still don’t have the slightest amount of relationship with each other to reach that kind of level.

Isn’t it better for them to know me first, and especially me to know them?

To tell you the truth…

As much as possible, I want to stay away from girls. ‘Except for Iris though’

Yeah, I know that I still don’t know the female kind of this world, so it’s just okay.

Marrying?

That is out of question!!!

I still want to live the life of a free bachelor!!!”

I said as I almost shouted the last parts.

“I’m sorry, Lord Ashe –“ Head Eug said apologetically.

“No can do!—“

It was Sir Greg who interjected.

“Ashe will become the husband of those seven maidens. And you, Ashe, have no choice in this matter!”

He said as if he was the father of Hayato.

“And why is that?” I said with a very serious tone.

We are talking about my life here you know so I have to be serious.

“First of all, I won’t teach you anything about this world if you don’t marry all of them! And who knows, they also have some information that they themselves only know!

Second, it’s quite a waste to end their bloodline! The bloodline of the Scarlet is a valuable asset. Though I don’t know about, Iris…

Third, you are a lucky bastard if I was still in your age I will unhesitatingly take it!

Fourth, they are technically yours now since if you didn’t encountered that boar and we encountered it, they are more or less dead by now. So you indirectly save their lives.

Fifth…”

“Hold on!”

I shouted.

“Where is the reason that will make me no choice in taking them for marriage? You have just been squabbling like a salesman introducing his wares to a customer! Though the first one is quite threatening since I do need the information and help to find that booger. But how does it concern with the subject, Marriage!!!”

“Tsk* Tsk*!!!, Are you not listening earlier? They are more or less a commoner now. No one will help them. If you don’t marry them, some else will get them! And since we are in a time of war, slaves with this kind of features are high in the market.

You got what I’m saying? It is best for them to have a husband now than later!!!”

“Hey!” It was Catherine who commented. She was offended but what Greg said since it was as if he was treating them as wares rather than a person.

“That is true, Catherine. There is indeed a high chance that will happen. Even if we indeed got a husband, he will going to be a commoner if we are lucky a merchant. Marrying another noble now is unattainable since we got no property for a dowry. The worst would be is that, as he said, we will be captured as and sold as a slave after killing our husbands. But…”

Eunice said as calmly as she can be.

“B-but…?” Hearing this Catherine, she hung downs her head.

“But, if our husband would be someone like him who killed a giant boar using just a wooden sword. Then, that may prevent us from that fate.”

“But… the marrying age is 18 years-old. And no matter how I look at it, Ashe is really just a kid.”

Eunice finished it with a hard low blow.

“Ughh!” I exclaimed “I’M NOT A KID!!! I HAVE ALREADY… (Counting with his hands) 35 girlfriends, more or less, And I am already 18 years old! Two days more and I‘m going to be 19! No, I am already 19!”

“Is that so… then you’ll marry us?”

“OF COURSE! IF THAT WILL CONVINCE YOU!!!”

Greg was grinning.

Eunice is giggling.

Catherine is angry.

Head Eug was VERY HAPPY.

“Eh?”

I was carried away!  

“That’s cheating!!!”

“No, Ashe. No one forced you on saying that. It is just that you have lowered your guard, that’s all!”

Greg was still grinning as he said that.

That marked the end of the discussion. They got my word of approval with everyone hearing it or more like every creature of the forest.

Eunice seems to be the manipulative, the scariest type of women. They have the brains, the cunning and the ability to make everything she wanted happens.

In a sense, she is indeed an asset.

Catherine seems to be the proud type, the most difficult type of women to deal with.

Steph is visibly a sporty kind. This kind has sometimes a manly nature so dealing with her is going to be the easiest. And of course, a force a can depend on besides Sir Greg.

Saveen… well. I think she is… she can be classified as quite a harmless individual.

Iris is as you can see, a tsun-tsun. Though, she is still full of mysteries.

The twins though are quite normal so I was relieved.

“Then, that does mean I have already a BIG BROTHER?!!”

It was Frau who suddenly shouted as he stood up from his sleep.

“I always wanted a big brother! Right, Eunice nee-san?”

He shouted as he revealed his face with an innocent smile.

Right! I almost forgot about the youngest of the siblings, Frau Scarlet.

It seems he fall asleep again right before the discussion.

“Well, you can say it was something like that…”

This made Frau really happy that he hugged me and in return I gently patted his head.

Sigh*

‘This is going to be difficult’

The day is approaching mid-morning when it was all settled.

Our next concern now is our survival.

Food, Shelter, Clothing, this are the basic needs of humans or other humanoid races.

Securing those things is not an easy task except Food since we have a waterfall pond here full of fishes.

Clothing can be secured by hunting animals in the forest for pelts but we don’t have the tools.

Shelter can be secured by me but we need many lumber and another set of tools.

With the goals and obstacles or hindrances known, we began to find a solution to reach that.

First, I asked each and everyone’s skill, expertise, or hobbies.

Eunice, Catherine, Saveen, Steph and the twins have all the same skills due to their parents preparing them for marriage. Surprisingly, Iris have them too!

The following are the said skills:

~ Cooking

~ Weaving

~ Sewing

~ Embroidery

~ Horseback Riding

Eunice and Saveen seems to have the hobby of reading books but Saveen has a higher proficiency.

Catherine and the twins seemed to love gardening and playing with the livestock.

Steph has a hobby of hunting maybe due to his real father being a master hunter and she has the highest Horseback riding proficiency though the other skills are low but satisfactory.

Frau, who is the heir to the household since he was the only male among them, has a different training among them. But again, Iris have them too!

He also has hobbies like reading and writing novels, stargazing and taking care of animals.

Surprisingly, Greg can do too many things so I didn’t bother remembering them. Eug, on the other hand, has woodcutting, farming, animal husbandry, and carpentry skills, and he still have a healthy working body despite his age.

But I was bothered of what I have found out about Iris since she has both the skills trained on the girls and Frau. It was as if she was also a noble.

‘This is indeed troublesome… I just hope she is not a runaway noble and instead it would be like the vase of Scarlets.’

Now that I have known their skills, I can now give them their respective jobs but it seems I can only do that for now since we still lack the necessary tools for the jobs.

The girls, except Steph, will be in-charge with the clothing problem right after obtaining some pelts, and me making a wooden needle for them.

The shelter will be tasked to me and Head Eug.

Steph, Frau, and Greg will be responsible for hunting the pelts for the leather. And since they are quite the strong individual they may occasionally help us, Head Eug and me, in collecting wood.

So what I need to make is as follows:

3 Wooden hunting boar spears

1 Stone Axe

6 Wooden needles

1 Mallet

1 Chisel

I think I can make them with the remaining Virosy woods here.

So first, I will make the rest to find some flat flint stones and some whetting stones scattered by the falls as they wait their tools and necessary items.

As they search, I also started my job.

It was already nearing noon, maybe four more hours before noon, when they searched so I have to hurry.

I quickly outlined the rod for the three hunting boar spear. But since the timber are cut into several pieces, an ideal length can’t be made so I am thinking of joining rods together with combination of joins and pegs right now and that is quite time consuming since with a little bit of error and wrong estimation, the joint might be broken. But for someone like me who makes tiny models like the Gundam mobile suits, you can say that it was already a second nature for me.

Six identical rectangular rods are now out of the timber after an hour.

The speed surprised even myself since when I carved out the wood pieces I needed for my wooden swords I have struggled for almost three and a half hours but those are mainly due to my exhaustion and my growling stomach.

Now that I mention it, it seems the exhaustion and growling slowed.

I’ll better ask Greg later.

Done with the sticks, I started carving out the wood for the spear head.

The spear head for a boar spear has a elongated triangle with a diamond shaped cross-section. It also has something that prevents the spear to drive deeper than necessary.

With that in mind, I started carving the part.

After another 30 minutes, I have carved it out.

With all the parts out of the timber, I started shaving the rectangular rods into a rough cylindrical shape. Then I moved to the spear head. Then to the joints, what I used is a rectangular prism and a rectangular shaped hole in which will be pegged by a wooden stake.

After 10 minutes each, the three spears are done. With only the smoothing, detailing and sharpening of the spear head left.

After, another 45 minutes. The three spears are done, perfect with a razor sharp edge and point. I even chose to freely engrave some designs in its joints and on the spear head using my carving knife.

What I saw then was everyone were staring at me sparkling eyes as if they were all amazed about something.

“Huh? What happened?” I asked since I was confused by their actions.

“N-nothing, right Eunice-neesan?” Catherine elbowed Eunice which was in her right side.

“Eh? o-oh! yeah! It was nothing…”

I just stared at them for a second since I felt something good happened and I was not included on it.

Anyway, all I can do is shrug it off and refrained to press on the matter.

“Wow! This spear is great! No wonder you killed that giant boar!”

It was Greg with him twirling and playing the spear around. Thrusting and slashing around like he was dancing.

‘Is he showing off?’

“Wow! Do it again! Do it again!”

This time it was Frau who commented on it.

“Later, Frau… Anyway, this thing is a weapon lvl 3 and that means that it can rival…, No! it’s even more superior than the basic armaments that the Dwarves can make!!! Knowing that this thing is made from a Virosy wood, this thing should only reach weapon lvl 2 at max. Seriously what you can expect on a Hero – [Artisan] class.”

He said the last part in whisper so that everyone can’t hear it and paused with a great grin and then continued.

“Frau, we can make a fortune with this thing!!! A weapon Lvl 3 with this kind of quality can easily reach the lowest price of an Aurie gold and 75 Silver coins!!!”

“””““Eh!?”””””

Everybody was struck with surprise.

" A-An Aurie gold and 75 Silver coins!!! That can already buy one fully grown cattle with 3 egg laying hens included!!!” Catherine said while stammering.

“Then this three is already worth 5 Aurie Gold and 25 Silver Coins?” She continued.

Everyone went silent with that revelation, silently staring intently at the spears when someone’s stomach grumbled angrily.

“Ah! It seems that hard work made my stomach empty again. Hahaha!!!”

‘Totally, uncool’ I thought while laughing it off to avoid them from detecting my embarrassment.
