Chapter 6: Slight Interruption

We’d been riding in the carriage for a couple of days, when I noticed the weird shadows around the guards bodies. But before I talk about the problem that came I should talk about what we were doing before the event.

Now about the stories I was listening to Liz tell me. I may have not learned much from the stories but I did manage to learn a bit pieces of information

Although I can say I didn’t learn much about the technologies of the world, what kind of politics in place, religions people may worship, or even the shape of the land. I can guess that it may be one giant continent.

One major thing I did learn was some of the species general locations from the stories she would tell me. Apparently to the west is the location of the demon realm, which as you may guess is mostly filled with sentient demons.

To the east is the human realm, which probably has a large amount of humans living there. I still found it odd that the demons were all grouped as one. The beastmen lived to the south, and the elves to the north, shared with by the dwarves.

Although I can’t be sure about if there are any mixes of towns or the like around I did learn that if I went in one of those directions I could find the race in that vicinity. I mostly guessed what the meaning of beastmen and demons meant because I had yet to actually meet one.

I was never really given a location name but guessed they lived there nonetheless. I still don’t have a map, to see how large the world is or how large the territories these realms are.

Now I can talk about the event that had occurred… during the time on the road we had been camping out a few times in the forests and whatnot we had decided to make camp in.

We did manage to sleep in a few inns in some towns, but I was almost always stuck with Liz, probably because she didn’t think I should be left alone. There was one common factor to all of the villages we passed by.

They all were building buildings, and there were usually destroyed wreckages around the place, usually buildings or walls. Now to return to the reason the event that occurred.

Usually if we didn’t make it to a village we had to sleep in the wilderness. some of the guards would go out hunting before night, I was told that what we were eating was demonic beasts. I guess its a creature that is demonic or something? I know its tasty either way.

Some of the guards would come back with cuts and/or bruises, it was highly likely it was from the beasts they fought in the wild. It was still something that seemed to happen to a few of the guards coming back.

The ones who came back with both of the symptoms were the ones who were coming back with the darkness surrounding them. At the time when the problem occurred I had counted around 5 of the 20 guards we had protecting us had the darkness surrounding their bodies.

Truthfully I had never paid much attention to the darkness around them because nobody else seemed to notice it like me. I guessed it was due to the stress of not getting enough sleep. They usually only got a short amount of sleep compared to how much I got.

The problem arose on a beautiful morning just like any other, and we had just finished camping out in the forest. We were 14 days through our trip from what I had counted, and I had been in the caravan for a bit with Liz and Sarah.

After a bit I was told a story by Liz. She was telling me a story about some kind of war that included heroes from each of the major races. It had to do with the gods blessing heroes and having them end the war before it grew too out of hand.

When the story ended Liz and Sarah were talking about what route we needed to take or whatnot, and they had a map that I could only see a bit of. I never really got a good view because she would leave me on the back part of the carriage.

When suddenly Sarah stopped talking she began looking off in the distance. Usually when the carriage would start moving we had been waiting for what seemed to be minutes.

After a while of waiting I heard something that sounded like thudding, and the sound of clanging metal on metal. I didn’t understand what was going on, but I assumed it had to do with a battle of some sort when Liz suddenly told me…

Liz: “Okay were going to go out for a bit… Stay quiet, and don’t move.”

I chose to just sit there and wait while they rushed out of the carriage. Grabbing the swords that were leaning on the wall beside the door. Honestly I didn’t exactly know what was going on, but since I was alone for a bit I thought I should check and see if I could talk now.

When I was reborn I questioned how I could understand the people in this world speak at first, and when I found out I couldn’t even understand my own speech I grew even more confused.

It was during the ceremony when I first tried to talk, and I guess now is as good as time as any to check if I can understand myself since I’m alone. I heard some yelling outside, but decided to ignore it because I was busy thinking.

Luke: ‘Okay so I should try and see if I can talk… Maybe start with a simple sentence.’

Thinking out loud...

Luke: “I really need to learn about this world more... It seems Liz is trying to be my adoptive mother so I guess when I get to the castle I’ll start speaking to her…”

I kept talking to myself excited I could talk again, after some time the sounds outside started to die down. I would guess around 15 minutes passed.

-------------------------------------Outside-----------------------------------

Outside the caravan chaos was unfolding with guards fighting guards. The people who Luke had noticed shrouded in the darkness were fighting against the rest of the guards. Unknown to the guards and our heroes shadows were approaching their position.

As the four heroes quickly exited their caravans the first thing they noticed was five guards lying on the ground bleeding or unconscious. Hearing horses neighing while the battle was unfolding.

The other 10 guards that had managed to notice what was going on before they were cut down by their comrades were busy trying to stop them from fighting. They were holding them in combat in a vain attempt to stop the 5 men who had mysteriously gone insane.

The guards were at a loss at what to do while their comrades were acting oddly on their own. The two carriage drivers were trying to keep hidden as the battle was taking place.

When the heroes came upon the scene the first thing they did was start chanting magic. Sarah the healer of the group began chanting holy magic in a vain attempt to stop their possessed selves.

Finding it only to slow down their movements, the remaining heroes managed to knock out the newly insane guards. Right after they subdued the controlled guards the shadows appeared.

If one looked at the shadows they were rather medieval soldier esc but with full black armour, and if one looked closely they were almost see through.

The heroes already sensing the location of the man controlling the shadows took off with some of the horses after Liz told the guards to protect the front caravan at all cost.

A few minutes of riding through the forest and our heroes managed to make it to the location of the dark summoner controlling the dark shadows. Our heroes now confronting the culprit, the dark summoner began chanting.

What he was doing was bringing more shadows from the ethereal plane using his own life energy. He was summoning stronger versions of the shadows that rather than humanoid looking were more large beast like.

Our heroes began fighting the several shadows which were summoned. After a few minutes the summoner couldn’t keep up with our heroes. And succumbing to fatigue he was cut down by Liz the vanguard.

Our heroes only managed to get out half a sentence from the summoner before his life was ended by a mysterious object that planted itself into the mans back.

Summoner: “S-stop I was sent here to get a young baby for my mas-.”

Our dejected heroes, watched as the perpetrator who sent the object dashed away along tree branches. Unable to learn enough about who ordered the attack Liz was the only one who was close enough to hear his final words.

Returning to the carriages they met with our main character, and Liz wasn’t very happy at the result of the battle.

I still don’t like the result of the third person view I tried. I will start the next chapter on Luke’s pov, but before that I may change this chapter a bit. I just wanted to get this up and get some peoples opinions. Some details may be missing, but hopefully I manage to get them added before the next chapter.

Remember to Comment, Like, and favorite, I love to read comments btw.
