Chapter 3: Creatures of the night

Perspective: Tasha (2nd founder)

Current Location: Asia

[3 hours before Tempestas being attacked]

"Come on everyone. Time to suit up," I said lazily as I wore my armor.

We received another request for the extermination of bloodbornes within a 1km radius at Malaysia. Several weeks ago, new recruits started showing promising results as they dismissed the facts which came after the killing of another living being, through brute force and gore, of course.

The first time when they joined the branch in Asia, the look of excitement and curiousity in their eyes at what we do annoyed me, a lot. No matter how much they got shut up, it always ended up with tons of questions and guesses on how we do things.

The branch in Asia was a tall building, though not as tall as a skyscraper, just a two stories high building. There was a sign stating the organisation's name and what we do, though I'm pretty sure everyone in the city knew about what we do because there were hidden cheers when we arrived and set up the working base.

The building itself wasn't in a really good condition. Perfect, a good test subject to try my painting skills on. For the first few days, I was determined enough to get up from bed at 7 a.m., where the sun rose to a noticeable degree, and get to work on painting the building myself. Though after that few days, I felt like the God of Sloth chose me as her puppet. I just gave up on the idea of painting the building myself and hired a few paint workers to do it for me. Of course, the funds for the organisation was used to pay them.

The outer walls of the building was painted white to prevent too much heat from entering the building. The inside was a mix of black and grey while the floor tiles were covered by large marble stones. There was a desk placed in the middle of the room where the receptionist (me) would sit and on the second floor, weapons for dealing with bloodbornes were stored. It consisted of obsidian blades, which is quite rare and pretty expensive, but the quality and work it does makes up for most of it, and grenades, which would pretty much blow anyone up who is dumb enough to pull the pin and not throw then run for it.

There was not a few, but a lot of houses bought using the organisation's money to house the new recruits. All were well equipped with weapons to deal with emergencies such as a bloodborne "accidentally" entering your house. Basic machinery such as washing machines and dishwashers were equipped as well.

As I was saying, after the new recruits got experience on the "real" training first-hand, the earlier curiousity and excitement in their eyes no longer existed. Even the traces of its previous existence was cleared. Life was somehow... dull for the first few days after the initial training, but it got better after that since they got used to the training.

After reminiscing the past and procrastinating a little, I finally got my hunting gears prepared. Hunting parties sent were not infrequent, though for new recruits to finally get some real battle experience, it was pretty rare and proved to be quite a challenging task at first.

Stolen story; please report.

When I got out of my changing room, everyone immediately stood up and waited for orders.

"Alright pussies, this is the time to prove your worth. Let's teach these creatures never. To. Mess. With. Humans," as soon as my motivation speech was given out, everyone roared with battle lust, eyes containing flames when looked at. It was a sign of prebattle determination and strengthened wits, powerful enough to cause a person who was initially afraid of battle to charge in mindlessly and become a war maniac.

Looking at these warriors, at this moment, I felt a sense of accomplisment and smiled for the first time after recruiting these assholes.

----------------------------------------

During the travel on an armored truck to the intended destination, a loud 'thunk' could be heard as something hit the armored vehicle we were in. Everyone in the truck stared at the dent formed. As I stared in surprise, the second vehicle carrying 20 recruits was blown off the road by what seemed to be a large chunk of earth. The truck in question was sent crashing into the thick forest by the road, and definitely did not stop just a meter or two away from the road.

Following after that was a bloody scream, a scream which threatened to break our eardrums. The sound was somewhat inhuman yet it still resembled a woman screaming.

Armed with obsidian knives, everyone on the vehicle got off just like during training sessions. I've got to say, a recruit before being trained versus a recruit after undergoing the training certainly had a difference when standing on the battlefield. They took a stance which prepared them against most ambushes.

Without really knowing who or what threw the great chunk of rock which crashed the previous truck, fear was budding from the depths of our thoughts as our natural instincts went wild. Despite that fact, tactical strategy was placed more of a priority than instincts.

"Team 1, begin reconnaissance. Team 2 spread out and secure the area. The rest follow me," my voice echoing around the somewhat empty but not quite abandoned area spoke of authority. Quietly, everyone took their positions as the rest who were ordered to follow me covered my back.

The tense atmosphere could not be dissipated even though our battle hunger kicked in. There was something unnatural about the situation that made me rethink my decisions, but I ignored it and kept moving forward as planned.

I was leading my squad to where the truck crashed when I heard another inhuman scream. This time was more like a banshee screaming than anything else. Accompanying it was a pain I have never experienced before assaulting my mind. Closing my ears with the palm of my hands, attempting to block off the noise, I screamed in pain as I fell to my knees when they buckled. Slowly but surely, my consciousness started to fade. From the glimpse provided before the vestige of my consciousness faded, everyone was affected too, as they all passed out around me.

The last thought I had was, 'how the fuck does the sound and pain work?"

----------------------------------------

When I woke up, pain surged through my head as if I was trying to crack my skull by hitting it with a hammer. A few more minutes passed as I sat on the ground trying to soothe the surging pain.

Why did it have to be like this? I complained to myself. The pain stopped all of a sudden after the few minutes and vanished as if it was never there in the first place.

Weird, outright weird. Oh well, got to check for more pressing issues first. Boss is not gonna be happy with me if I left the recruits to die.

I walked on carefully, as to not let the inhuman creatures residing in the forest to know about my plan. As I got closer, smoke irritated my nostrils.

"Finally," I muttered under my breath as I headed to the crash clearing.

Taking a peek, the scene I saw disgusted the hell out of me.

I could only say it in my head as I kept myself from vomitting, and that was...

"What the fuck are those creatures?"
