Chapter 2: Premonition

Chapter 2: Premonition

Expanding all over the world thinned the organisation's forces considerably, since the amount of hunters within the organisation may be too small to even form a proper one. As all three founders were no longer grouped together but put onto different continents, they had tasked themselves with the job of recruiting more hunters and allowing the respective governments to fund them even more.

Ever since their establishment, no matter what they requested from the UN, in the end, they would agree in exchange for their worldwide protection. Their daily spendings exceeded any of the daily spendings a normal person usually would by ten to one.

In terms of spending funds on firearms, they were mostly ineffective due to the high regenerative abilities of a bloodborne. Thus, the only way was to either get into melee combat and kill them near instant or obliterate their bodies before it can heal. Either way was too difficult for normal soldiers since they would get killed within a blink of an eye once they enter three arms length of a bloodborne.

That means, the only ones capable of even touching a bloodborne would be the so called borne-hunters.

As more and more hunters were recruited and gathered, the amount of bloodbornes decreased dramatically because hunting parties were sent frequently. Before long, the hunters would always outnumber the targets, leaving them defenseless against troops which were trained to one-shot them.

Such a situation would have been a good turn for the better ,but with the constant sending of hunting parties, the funds to support the organization were limited. As funds decreased, the amount of hunters willing to work for the organization unpaid decreased dramatically, too. Though some said it was in the name of justice for them to continue on, most of it was just because they knew that after the others leave, they would finally get paid, even in large sums. At the end of the day, a lot of them decided to work solo or form groups of their own to hunt, causing a decrease in hunting efficiency and quality.

On the other hand, thanks to an evolution for the bloodbornes, they could now control victims to a certain degree through the manipulation of the victim’s blood after injecting their own blood into them. As a plus, they could draw blood from others to take in the antibodies, thereby preventing a much more severe decrease in combat ability, though it still decreased considerably. They, too, could think much more clearly after only draining the blood of their victims instead of eating them whole, a major advantage for them to work together and fight off hunting parties, or counterattack them.

Perspective: Tempestas (1st founder)

Current location: South America Continent HQ

The headquarters was more like a secret bunker underground, having only one pathway leading in and out, at least as far as my colleagues knew. A wooden table stood in the middle while a lamp was hung above it, illuminating the otherwise dark room. Four chairs were arranged for seating at the side while the table had only two chairs on both sides, and a glass of water was placed on top of the table.

Their reaction to the news I just announced was to be expected. One minute I told them about the funds declining and possibly causing them to become incomeless, the next they decided to go solo or create a group of their own, becoming free mercenaries. I stood there with a calm look, crossing arms as they walked out from the room and out through the heavy, new steel door that weigh at least a ton, only being able to open it thanks to the assistance from the powered hinges

”We need to convince them, Tempest. We can’t let them go alone or split! Who knows what the nightmarish creatures would do to them after abducting them.” The woman beside me, Alice, voiced out her worries as she grabbed and shook me with her inhuman strength, with the grip of hers digging into my sleeves, causing a bearable amount of pain to flow into my brain for registration.

”We can’t do anything about it, the contract said so. So long as that’s what they decide, we can’t affect their decisions anymore.” I reminded her of the recruiting contract they signed.

The contract was used to bind hunters to the organization for a month. It was also a choice for the contractee to make a difference with their innate abilities as hunters. Though most were unwilling at first, though after reading the terms which obviously favored them, they signed it, sans hesitation.

Due to the desperate times of requiring more hunters to take down bloodbornes, we forced ourselves to make the contract which were against us. We had no choice since the country would be in danger if the bloodborne population was not reduced. As more and more bloodbornes were caught red handed during their feedings, although most of the time the general police were killed immediately and consumed, panic was once again spreading around like some sort of pandemic.

As I sank into thought sitting on the chair next to the table while staring at the glass of water, it cracked before shattering. For the first time after knowing bloodbornes existed in our world, I finally found something which proved quite relieving. Trying the act on a more solid object such as the table, the table instantly broke as if a large first hammered into the center of it, causing it to break and split into four parts.

I thought it was a shocking surprise, yet the others around just stared at me as if they won a lottery ticket.

"Woah, do that again, boss," a man in tight but flexible clothing stated.

"Wow... That was somewhat peculiar.." Alice stated with a stiff shoulder.

"Can you control the skill?" another woman asked the obvious question which, even I wanted to know.

As more and more of them voiced out their questions, a strong 'thud' on the door caused everyone to look at it. A questionable dent can be seen from the inside. Clearly, someone hit the door with something hard enough to even bent the heavy steel door.

"Wha...?" Alice voiced out her own surprise.

As more and more of us began speaking, a muffled scream was heard from the other side of the door while everyone tensed. Several more screams followed and a yell of courage was heard along with the screams. In that very moment, we knew something was wrong, very wrong.
