On one such unlucky gossip day , they were caught gossiping about their maths teacher by a strict professor. He ordered them to come with him to the principal cabin.

It was ill manners for a noble person to gossip , especially if the person in gossip was a high-ranking person or a teacher.

Eveline and Hannah followed the professor to Principal cabin .

Hearing about what the two girls did , principal was angry. He scolded Hannah and Eveline for not attending the maths class and for gossiping about the teachers.

He ordered Eveline, " You will be suspended for two days and have to write the logarithms twenty times. "

For a noble girl ,to be suspended, was equal to having an illegal affair .

It would tarnish their reputation. As Eveline was the daughter of a count, the principal did not show any mercy to her. While being the treasured daughter of a marquess , Hannah was not given any punishment.

But according to Hannah this was not fair , she decided to help her friend who always stood beside her during maths punishment.

Hannah pleaded the principal to take back the order of suspending Eveline.

Despite pleading the principal did not agree to take back his order. So Hannah decided to take the same punishment as Eveline .

Hannah spoke with a confident voice, " Sir , if you are suspending My Friend Eveline. Please give me the same punishment.

I would write a letter to inform my family about the details of the punishment and the reason behind it ."

The principal grew pale. Though gossiping was ill manners according to a noble, it was not a wrong, great enough to be suspended. Principal knew that if this news of suspension reached the Marquess he would cause chaos in the academy.

So the principal unwillingly decided to take back the suspension order .

He spoke, " Okay , I will consider your request ,Miss Hannah. Eveline will not be suspended; instead she should write the logarithms twenty times before tomorrow noon ."

The girls smiled and agreed to the punishment.

Once they walked out of the door , Hannah sighed in relief.

Hannah was walking ahead while Eveline was behind .

Hannah spoke, " Miss Eveline , it's good we were not suspended. Right?"

There was no response from Eveline .

Hannah turned back to check on her. Eveline was walking slowly, staring at the floor.

Hannah worriedly asked, " Miss Eveline! What happened? Are you sick anywhere?"

Eveline raised her head and slowly glanced at Hannah and spoke in a soft voice .

" Miss Hannah , thank you. I .....I am so grateful that you stood up for me today.

I never had a friend who would stand up for me even in difficult times. All..... all my friends just waved their tales at me for my father's money .

You are my first friend who cared about me , even when you too were at risk ."

Hannah smiled and walked towards Eveline who was behind her. She held on to Eveline's hands and said in a gentle voice "Being a friend this is the least I should do . I too am happy for meeting you and being friends with you Miss Eveline."

Hearing the word friends from Hannah , Eveline's face brightened up .

She said, "Miss Hannah , please call me Eva from now onwards. I want to get closer to you."

Hannah smiled and said, " Sure , sure Eva . You can call me Hannah too . You don't have to address me as Miss Hannah."

They both smiled at each other .

The love of friendship had already started to grow.

Among the nobles having a true friend was very rare .Eveline and Hannah were lucky to have each other.

Hannah pulled Eveline closer and whispered

"Before that bald Maths teacher catches us again, we should hurry up and go finish your logarithms. I will also help you to write them."

Both the girls left to their dorm to complete the given punishment.

They were still weak at maths until their graduation.
