[Arc 2] Chapter 1: A Night on the City

[Arc 2] Chapter 1: A Night on the City

Delish! Delish! So gooooood!

...crap! I ate up everything! Already?! ...a survival life in a Dungeon sure knows how to leave its tracks.

Feeling that there was still some space left in my stomach, I went for a trip to look for the city's nightly specialties while covering my face with my hooded coat. Having people stare at my face is more than a bother. Not to sound vain, but I'm pretty cute. Even when compared to the women on the streets. Is it my demonic nature or something that's playing a role? Think I had some skill as well...eh, whatever.

The streets are as good as swept clean for people compared to the afternoon, but there are still a few too many people for my taste here and there.

"Hey, miss? You want a taste?" - ???

While I was taking some detours, a voice from a food stand reached me. ...oh, they allow even ogres into the city. How generous of them.

"Master, I think you're making a wrong conclusion here. That person is a human." - Avatar of [Gamemaster]

HUH!? That super-macho, scar-covered baldy!? Who's wearing a pink apron with hearts on!? I thought for sure it was some type of gender-strange ogre...

"Ohohoho~. Little fairy, you are such a joke~. I am Rassel Hauserson~. Call me Rassel~~." - Rassel

...too much. This guy's character is too much...

*Sniff, sniff*

But those screwers smell too good!

"Ten, please." - Garami

"Thank you~. That is 2 silvers in total~." - Rassel

I handed the coins to the bodybuilder chef and got ten skewers with what looked like grilled crab meat. The sign says..."grilled Viper Scorpions with herbs"? ...not the strangest stuff I've eaten. And they're good! How can stuff like scorpions taste this delish!? Maybe it's the herbs...

"Ten more." - Garami

"Hmm? Wha-!? Sweetie, you've already finished them!? Thanks for the patronage," replied the macho-chef as he(?) handed me some more skewers.

"By the way, are there any places where one can cash in old materials and treasures?" asked the fairy while she nibbled on one of the skewers... Hold on. She's capable of eating!? Isn't she supposed to be a skill?

And a place to sell stuff. Yeah, that is needed. Especially considering the Dungeon Core I have...

"There are some pawnshops you could visit, but those aren't reliable. They would try to scam even such pretty sweeties as you two. The best place would be the Merchants' Union, as they are most likely to give you the best monetary offer, but those guys can be as bad as the pawners when they are dealing with someone for the first time. The safest option would be the Adventurers' Union, but they are busy lately, so the pay may be lower compared to what the Merchants can offer." - Rassel

The vendor gave us a decent explanation and several options to choose from, but...Unions? Are those like guilds in games and fantasy stories? Sounds kinda interesting.

I left the stand after that, and while walking, I sorted out my options. If what the vendor said was true, then my best bets are either the Merchants' Union if I want the big score. But if I wish for a safe offer, then the Adventurers' Union is the place I should head to.

Though, what I'm planning on selling are the gold and treasures I obtained from the old mansion that was hidden on the 6th floor of the Water-Knot. That stuff's bound to attract attention. If I'm gonna sell it, I should expect gathering some sort of attention to myself...what a pain.

"...that new girl at the bar's seriously loaded!"

"...all the ports are giving them for free? Tch!"

"...returned, and with some new pets."

"...those guys have been silent for a while..."

"...around 60 people dead now..."

"...serious! Those bugs are a new species!"

"...strangely noisy there. Maybe a new..."

...more people are starting to gather, so I went down the less populated roads. There, after checking that there was nobody who could overhear us, I started to discuss with the fairy the plans for the future.

"Who do you think would be best?" - Garami

"As the buyer of the loot? I would say the Adventurers' Union." - Avatar of [Gamemaster]

"Your reasons?" - Garami

"The biggest one is what the vendor told us. The merchants are far from fair creatures, but if we join the Adventurers' Union and sell the treasures, they are more likely to give us a fair price because they want to form a good relationship with the "treasure hunter" who can discover such vast loot." - Avatar of [Gamemaster]

So we're doubling the worth of the sale by getting both money and a good reputation? I like that. Especially since my skills alone are enough to make me seem like someone who should be behind bars.

...okay, the new [Slayer of the Ultimate] title may be nice. It has no effects whatsoever, but it should give me some cred. But the [Dungeon Raider], on the other hand-!

Title Name: Dungeon Raider Acquisition condition:

* Participate in reaching/destroying a Dungeon's Core

Effects:

* Increased recovery while inside a Dungeon: [Small]

* Increased damage to Dungeon monsters: [Small]

Rewards:

* None

Description:

A title granted to the heartless jerks who hunt Dungeons! Shame on you! SHAME ON YOU!!

...seems pretty nice as well. Hmm? ...maybe I'm not that bad after all? Adventurers are all about crushing Dungeons...right?

And my skills...are a little dark, but that's fine. At least the old ones from before the Glavras fight. Maaaaybe [Sadistic Constitution] is stretching it a little, but it should be fine.

[Darkness Element], which I evolved from [Lesser Darkness Element] when it reached its level-cap by spending 6 AP, is just a Darkness booster. No worries there...

[Jump] and [Blindness Resistance] are simple passives/resistances. The former just makes it easier to jump around, while the latter makes my eyes stronger against bright light. Yeah, no worries there...

As for the [Liquid Control] skill, which should be equal to [Aura of Darkness] and [Gamemaster]...I can't use it. Supposedly, it lets you control any kind of liquid, from water to lava, but I can't get the logic behind it. Maybe I just don't have the talent for it?

In the end, none of these skills seem to be invalidating me from getting access to the Adventurers' Union. ...with one exception...

Skill: Demon Lord Skill Type: Extra Skill Tier: Ex Attribute: --- Effect:

* For each skill level, 100 points are added to all stats except LP.

* Increases resistance towards all attributes except Light, Holy, and Purification.

* Decreases LP costs to recruit other people into one's groups by [Target's negative Karma Value / 10].

* The cost cannot go below 5 LP.

* This effect stacks for every skill level.

WHY!? Why did this jerk suddenly decide to move in?! I love the status buff, but even so! Just owning this skill is gonna give me tons of distrust! I just know it! Why did it even pop up just like that!?

...then again, being a demon is enough to make people suspicious of me. So...yeah. Let's go with the idea that a demon with negative Karma is just a normal demon, not some evil villain.

"Master, where are we going?" - Avatar of [Gamemaster]

"Where..." - Garami

Oh, crap. I'm lost. I went right into my own world, and into the unknown of the city. It seems like a back alley. The kinda place where robbers would come out from.

"Hey, missy? You got some cash to spare?"

...it's not even been ten seconds and they're already here. Now, what am I up against...

WEAK! These guys are too weak! Their average stats are only around 130! I've heard from Gust that an untrained human would have around 80-100 on average when they've grown up, so this is more than the average, but for guys in the "shadows", isn't this too pathetic!?

Not only that, they only have 1 intermediate-tier class! Even the number of skills they have are damn low! I haven't checked out what skill they have, but I doubt it's anything too impressive.

I could run over these guys and wouldn't break a sweat! Aren't stats and skills highly valued in this city? How are they supposed to compete with the monsters wearing human skins (like me) for jobs?

...oh, right. Robbers. They can't get a job.

The unfit blobs were closing in while trying to block my escape routes. Too bad they're not dealing with the sky. I can just jump up these walls if I need to. The real problem here is how to stop them without killing them. I'm in a city now, not the wilderness of a Dungeon. Killing people, robbers or not, is gonna get me sent to jail at the very least. I've not forgotten how to act as a member of society, even after all this while.

"Now, girlie, tell us more about that "loot" from before?" - Ugly thug A

So that's what they're aiming for. Nobody's seen my face, maybe except for the vendor before when I bought the skewers, so they're aiming for my wallet instead. What a pain. Maybe some webbed thieves would be a nice present for the guards on patrol-

*Stab!*

...huh?

"H-hey! What did you do!?" - Ugly thug B

Don't ask me... All I know is that thug A got his brains stabbed by some shining...thing. A weapon? From a skill like my [Darkness Daggers]?

The remaining thugs looked around in confusion, some of them had drawn daggers and pointed them at me. This is getting dangerous, so I produced some daggers of my own, but before any of us could do anything, more flying weapons hit them straight into the thugs' heads.

Don't tell me I'm next...or not? Hmm? All the thugs have been killed, yet no more weapons are coming flying. [Danger Sense] isn't picking up anything...but it didn't work on the first assault either. Better not rely on it fully...

"Over there!"

Huh?

"A murder!"

W-wait...

"That hooded one! They're the culprit!"

H-hold on! Those weapons are of a different-

"Get them! Dead or alive!"

I'm outta here!
