As Herman came to, he noticed a much dimmer blue light flashing out of the corner of his left eye. Ignoring the flashing for now, he carefully sat up and noticed that it was no longer raining. Instead, a heavy mist was now covering the forest, once again blocking his vision past the first ten feet. Hoping he was going in the right direction, Herman started shuffling towards where he remembered seeing what he thought was a mountain, hoping to find a relatively dry cave for shelter and then address everything that had happened to him.

Using the flashing to keep time, Herman spent a good 45 minutes getting used to his now improved body as he finally started seeing a slight incline of the terrain. Going from a shuffle to a light jog, he started looking forward to getting out of the mist and hopefully the forest as well.

The trees around him reminded him of the pictures his grandson showed him of Red Woods. Those trees were said to be thousands of years old. Although they had the same size, that was only for the thinnest of the trunks he had seen so far. They were spaced quite far apart, leaving plenty of room for undergrowth.

As the terrain started to incline more steeply, the mist began to thin out and Herman was able to see some rocks begin to jut out of the undergrowth. Within the next hour the ground was almost all rocks, making Herman take more careful steps as he started seeing some shallow indentations that might offer some temporary shelter.

Eventually he was able to find a deeper cave that wasn't overly damp from the rain and mist of the forest. Taking a seat, Herman sat for a moment and enjoyed the feeling of being able to exert his body without having to worry about breaking every bone in his body. He took off the dress/nightgown and left it right next to the entrance, where it would hopefully soak up some of the sun's rays and dry out a bit.

Now that his instincts weren't screaming at him for being out in the open where anything could walk over and kill him, he focused on the flashing that had been on his peripherals for the past two hours. While it was nice to have something that helped him measure the time, he was starting to get irritated with the thing demanding his attention.

Reconstitution complete. Welcome to Brion System 1.7.5.27

Having reread the [system messages] a couple times, his interest was piqued when he realized he could see them as if they were imprinted onto his eyes. Even when Herman closed them, he could see the messages. Further experimentation showed that he knew instinctively how to [clear] the messages from his [system notifications].

Extended experimentation led to him discovering anytime he specifically thought of System Brion, a list of [commands] were brought up that he instinctively knew of what they did, even if he never remembered having learned any of it. It reminded him of that online game thing Carson used to---

...What was he thinking? Herman searched his memory but decided it wasn't that important, old age most likely being the culprit. As he looked at [major commands], he decided to first look at his [Status].

...He was pretty sure he had a last name, but no matter how hard he tried, Herman couldn't remember what it was. He couldn't even understand why he thought he should have a last name. It was just felt instinctual. Then he saw his age which confused him even more. He didn't feel 32, and neither did his mind. His body certainly didn't feel that old. Was his mind older than his body? By how much? He started to hyperventilate as he feared that he was suffering some sort of amnesia. Where was his memories from before yesterday? Did the System wipe them?

He looked back at the [system messages], weirded out by how easily he was using this "System".

Reconstitution complete. Welcome to Brion System 1.7.5.27

Welcome? He was reconstituted? Constitution means body...maybe? Then was his body remade? forced to take a form that the system could interact with? Perhaps it deemed his past memories unnecessary for his existence within the System, so it wiped them. How was that possible? he knew how to speak, definitions of words, what was required to survive. But every time he tried to remember how he learned these things… it was like he hit a wall.

Wait... this is a different feeling then when he tried to think about how to navigate the System in his head. The list of [Commands] came naturally, but he KNEW that the way to use the system was put into his head. The knowledge wasn't obtained naturally, like his ability to speak or use his other instincts. Those were formed naturally from his experiences, experiences that he wasn't allowed to remember. He began to take deep breaths, trying to continue down this new line of logic.

So, this "System" has remade him in its image? Maybe there was a way to get back what he had lost, maybe there wasn't. Until then, he needed to have goal otherwise his anxiety wouldn't help him survive for long out in this ancient forest. What goal should he have? Long term? Regain his memories. Short term? Understand what this system is and use it to survive. Or until he could get more information.

With those anchor thoughts to reestablish himself, Herman went back to his status and started to look at the next line.
