chapter 7 - A rabbit's life

Waking up in the morning Quill look at his surroundings to yet again see his fire gone out and the rabbits hopping about.

“What are they even doing?”

Quill realises that even after spending a few days with the rabbits he still knows nothing about them. Quill just simply sat there watching what the rabbits are doing for the first time. He noticed some were eating grass, some were digging holes which he assumed were rabbits holes and where they go at night while some of the smaller rabbits were hopping around with each other.

‘so other than eating and playing they dig their homes’

Quill then turned his attention to a group of young rabbits hopping around a tree close to him. The rabbits one by one started to climb the tree. They managed to get to get to quite a high branch. as the climbing was so fast Quill isn’t really sure how they climbed it though he definitely was impressed. The last rabbit is about to climb the tree but as as what it looked to Quill the rabbit quickly moved up the tree only to end at the base.

’ah, it failed’

On closer look Quill notice this rabbit was a bitter smaller than other rabbits but not only that, while other rabbits were pure white, this one had a slight hint of purple in its fur. The rabbit tried again and again to climb this tree but only to end with the same result every time. Quill couldn’t help but feel sorry for the rabbit. Thinking this Quill stood up to help the rabbit but before he could the rabbit walked, well, hopped away from the tree.

’it gave up?’

Seeing the rabbit give up, quill couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed in the end. There was something about seeing someone lose hope and giving up he didn’t like for some reason. Well, it’s normal thing to dislike but he still disliked it. Quill decided to try and cheer the rabbit up, maybe play with it for a while or something. As he was thinking this he saw something that shocked him.

The rabbit stopped in it’s tracks, turned around and sprinted towards the tree. The rabbit saw nothing else but the tree, was it going to ram it from irritation? no, it was going to climb it. With as much power in it’s legs possible the rabbit pushes itself off the ground aiming for the goal in sight. Grabbing onto the tree and pushing itself higher with each jump. One jump after another it got closer to the other rabbits, one more jump until it reaches it’s goal. Power goes into the rabbits legs for one last final jump. Pushing towards to the tree the rabbit soars in the air reaching the branch, or that is what should’ve happened. The rabbit’s foot slips on the bark causing it to tumble down towards the ground.

“oh shit!”

Quill seeing the rabbit falling towards the ground, he runs towards it to catch it but doesn’t make it in time. The rabbit hits the ground with a crunch. Quill quickly checks to see if the rabbits is still alive and is sighs in relief when he sees the small rabbits chest moving up and down. Quill went to pick up the rabbit but before he could do so something shocked him even more than before.

The rabbit got up and started hopping towards the tree. It was clearly in pain having one of it’s legs broken but it still didn’t give up. It was determined to climb this tree. For too long was it left out of the group, for too long was it too weak to do what the other rabbits could do. Reaching the base of the tree it channeled all it’s power into it’s body into it’s legs and jumped with all it’s might. Pain spread through it’s leg, as it jumped but it didn’t care, it had to prove it could do this. Grabbing onto the tree it prepared itself for another jump. Putting yet again all power into it’s legs it jumped. the pain was unbearable but it still jumped. Third jump, fourth jump even the fifth jump it put up with this unbearable pain of jumping with a broken leg. Sixth jump, it jumped with as much strength left but sadly it wasn’t enough. The rabbit yet again tumbled towards the floor. Only this time it didn’t hit it. instead of the cold hard ground it was enveloped by a soft warmth. The rabbit was confused. It failed yet again so why didn’t it hit ground? why wasn’t it welcomed with more pain and possibly another broken bone?

“ahhh, that was a close one”

The rabbit looked up towards the voice. What it saw was unexpected. A big creature with brown fur only on it’s head. The rabbit as seen this creature before. It’s the same creature that fought off the wolves, the same creature that almost died while doing it, the same creature thats been living here the last few days. It was Quill.
