Chapter 2 - pondering menus

Quill and this wolf stare each other down. His heart is pounding, beads of sweat start to fall as he squeezes the rock in is hand. The sound of growling tormenting him of his fate. After what seems to be forever the first move is finally made. The wolf pounces at Quill but Quill was waiting for this. Before the wolf manages to reach him Quill swings his arm at the wolf hitting the side of the body but it wasn’t strong enough and only phased the wolf a little but enough to knock the wolf slightly off course for him to evade.

The wolf seems to be wearier of its prey after being attacked twice and backs off a bit to scan its surroundings. Quill notices this and takes this opportunity to attack. He runs up and kicks the wolf with all he has sending the wolf flying. But the wolf isn’t finished yet. It stands back and growls at its prey before slowly backing up and disappearing into the forest.

Quill stares into the part of the forest the wolf disappeared to until he is sure the wolf is gone then collapses to the ground

“That was a close one, thought I was a goner”

As soon as Quill finally starts to relax something caught his eye.

messages has been re-enabled as combat as ended

‘I guess that makes sense, I think I would be dead if I had a message in the middle of a fight’

On closing that message another message popped up

For protecting the rabbits from their predators when you were clearly weaker than the predator you have gained familiarity with the rabbits

Familiarity with Rabbits increased by 20

‘Familiarity with rabbits? Does that mean all rabbits or just the ones that live here?’

Quill pondered this for a moment before until the pain from his wounds finally hit him as the adrenaline wears off

“For a game this is pretty painful, though it would probably be worse in real life… how am I gonna deal with these wounds? Do they naturally heal or do I have to get treated? ”

Quill ponders again before sighing

‘ well, there’s only one way to find out’

As he was about to get up, a few rabbit hop toward him carrying plants in their mouths. Curious about the rabbits Quill decided to stay seated and see what they are going to do. The rabbits stop in front of him and start chewing the plants then started to climb onto him and spit the what was now green gloop onto his wounds.

For having medicinal herbs applied to your wounds your natural regeneration has increased by 200%

“So it seems natural healing is a thing but can be increased through treatment, very interesting”

While thinking about this Quill had another thought.

’Shouldn’t there be stats in this game?’

Quill looked around in his peripheral vision for a while

’doesn’t seem to be any icons or anything, maybe its voice controlled’

“Open stats”

Quill waiting expectantly only for nothing to happen

’wrong command maybe?

“Open window stats”

Yet again nothing happens

’I must be missing something here… or maybe there are no stats? This is a pretty odd game, it wouldn’t be surprising if they had an odd system as well’

As Quill is pondering the mechanics of the game the rabbits have finished treating his wounds and have jumped down from him pulling his awareness back to his surroundings.

“Oh uh, thanks for the treatment”

The rabbits hop away from him to join their fellow rabbits which have come out of hiding as he was getting treated. Quill looks at his wounds only to once again realise that he is naked

’I need some clothes, I’ve been lucky not to come across another player so far.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Quill gets up and looks at his surroundings, there are only plants, trees, and rabbits around. He could kill the rabbits and use their fur but not only has he not got the tools nor skills to fashion them into clothes but he didn’t want to kill the ones that treated his wounds.

'It seems plant clothes it is, if I can do it that is'

As mentioned before he has no tools or skills to create clothing. That includes any materials. Quill starts to wander about but not straying too far from the rabbit’s territory looking at the plants to see what could be usable.

After a while he came across a large leaf with a long stem.

’Maybe I can do something with this’

He picks the leaf and thinks for a while

’Maybe if I use the stem like a belt

He lowered the leaf to cover his private regions then wrapped the stem around his waist and tied it into a knot. He tried moving around in it but felt unhappy with it.

’ the leaf is too flappy, maybe if I tuck it in the back’

Quill pulled the leaf between his legs and tucked it into the stem around his waist. He moved around once more to test out his new clothes.

’still not that good but better than nothing

Just as he was going to move back to the rabbit’s habitat a message popped up

Although very primitive you are the first player to wear clothing you have gained some fame

Fame has increased by 50

“Seriously!”

He couldn’t believe it. Within the entire game no one has worn any clothes yet and he has only worn a bloody leaf. After getting over the shock of the other players lack of clothes he thought of something

’if the other player haven’t even got clothes yet, could it be that no players have discovered any towns? Or maybe there are no towns?

Quill thought of many possibilities on the way back to the rabbit habitat. Once he got back to the habitat he noticed the irritation on his inner thighs due to the width of the leaf.

’Should I just tear off the unnecessary parts? No, there’s too much risk of it tearing the wrong way, it would be better to cut it, if only I had a knife

While thinking of this he spots the rock he used earlier and similar rocks around it. From that he had an idea

’I’ll just make one

Quill picked up two rocks and started to hit one rock with another. After a while both of the rocks have a small chip in them.

“It works!”

After a few hours of chipping away one of the rocks start to have a pointed end sharp enough to cut.

“Finally finished”

Elated with his finished work Quill almost forgot the reason why he was making the thing. Quill was going to pull off his leaf but a message popped up

you have learnt the Carving skill

“What! A skill!”

Eden was even more elated, he earned a skill while at the same time finding out there are skills in the game

’How do I check skills?’

“Open skills”

Nothing happens

“Open skills menu”

Nothing happens again

“Open skills window”

Still nothings happens

“This bloody game, how am I supposed to do anything if I can’t access the menu?”

As Quill starts to calm down he noticed the rabbits have hidden again. Remembering from last time he quickly jumped onto his feet and scanned his surroundings. From the forest he could see a sight that sent shivers down his spine. All he could remember was the pain he was suffering earlier. It was the wolf from earlier but that was not all. He brought two wolf friends with him.
