7. Erena

"Gawen, we should go out and let you see the castle and the subjects." Sybella said. Gawen nodded his head as he too was a little excited to see what the castle looked like. He got up and dressed himself in heavy clothes that his mother had provided.

Since it was in the north, it was almost always cold. Gawen and his mother finally stepped out of the room. It was Gawen's first time out of his room after he came to this world. Though he was sure he was taken to this big room before, he was unconscious.

The moment he stepped out all he could thinks was Stark's words

"Winter is coming."

"Jesus Christ.. How cold is this place?" Gawen murmured under his breath.

"Jesus Christ? Gawen.. What is that?" Sybelle asked with curiosity as that was the first words that came to his mouth after they stepped.

"Uhh.. Nothing mother.. I was just overwhelmed by the winter. Is it that cold all year round?" Gawen asked as he got scared. He forgot that there was no Jesus here and the Gods here worked differently. If they could be termed as Gods, that is.

"It's winter now so it's cold. Sorry.. Should have warned you. Up here in the north it's always cold, especially in winter... Your memory really did fade away by a lot…." Sybelle replied with her last words turning into a low tone. Though Gawen heard her completely.

In response, Gawen held her mother's arms tightly and looked at her with confidence and determination. He had vowed that even if the world crumbled in front of him, he would protect this woman. He couldn't give his previous mother all the riches and joys, but God has given him another chance to take care of his mother.

And he wouldn't let this chance get away.

They started walking down the stairs and finally came to the battlement of the keep they had been living in. From the battlement he could see the entire small bailey which was surrounded by closed high stone walls.

Their castle was high in a small hill and the entire lower bailey was down the mountain where the people lived. Gawen could see all of this from high above. The surrounding was filled with snow and only the small bailey in front didn't have any snow.

Thanks to big braizers around which were burning with fire. This melted the snow but then again it made the ground wet and dirty. Gawen remembered watching Game of Thrones and thinking how dirty it would be living in these kinds of places.

It never occurred to him that he would be on the other side of his concern. This alone almost prompted him to change the keep and the whole castle in upgrading so that it wouldn't be so dirty.

"I need to change the living conditions of this place. This can't go on." Gawen thought.

His mother was taking Gawen all around and teaching him the different places of the keep and the inner bailey. Gawen paid attention to it as this was common knowledge and he didn't want to sound like a complete idiot later.

Finally they came to a small porch attached to the keep that was adjacent to the hall inside. From there Gawen could see some of the soldiers practising bow and arrow on a target. This was a normal practice but what stood out in it was that there was a girl practising too.

Gawen recognized that girl. It was his sister, Erena. And after Gawen looked at her closely for a minute he found that his sister was quite good at archery.

"It seems like we have Arya Stark at home." Gawen thought with a smile.

"Erena!! Leave that bow and archer. It's so unlady-like!!" Sybelle shouted as she noticed her daughter practising bow and arrow. Erena, hearing the voice of her mother, got scared and left her bow and arrows and ran. Gawen's eyebrows creased when her mother shouted.

"Mother, why is it wrong for her to practise bow and arrows? Every person is eligible to learn forms of self defence." Gawen said and this words was audible to all the soldiers practising and even Erena who was running away in fear thinking her mother was going to scold her more as she always did.

But hearing Gawen's words all turned their heads looking at him. Even his own mother. Gawen looking at the weird looks he was getting said

"What? Did I say anything wrong? Like men, women too can learn forms of self defence if they want to." Gawen said and now this was in a more loud tone which was audible to everyone. There was a complete silence in the yard in front.

"He is right!!"

Now came another loud and heavy voice. Gawen turned his head only to see his father standing behind him. With Maester Wolkan.

"From now on, girls and women who want to learn any form of self defence are welcome to participate. But mind you, they won't be drafted as soldiers until I see that they have achieved the same levels of a man. Now you are all dismissed." Robett said for everyone to listen.

The soldiers and the woman who were responsible for doing the chores on the courtyard left after Robett gave the orders. Robett and Gawen had a smiling face while Sybelle had a gloomy one.

"My son has grown up. I have always wanted to incorporate women in the soldiers' part but it seems like my son is ahead in this." Robett said as he patted Gawen in his back. Gawen felt ashamed. He just said what he thought was right and just.

Erena, meanwhile, came hopping towards them with a big smile on her face. She never thought she would be able to escape from the scoldings of her mother by just a few words from her brother. Though Sybelle didn't approve nor seemed happy with the sudden decision as this she didn't protest.

She saw how happy Erena and Gawen was with this sudden decision so she didn't interject, nor was it her place to go against her husband in public.
