Volume 7 : CHAPTER – 25 : NO TIME TO WASTE (2)

ALICIA ASCALON ASHBORN

Using teleportation magic, I teleported Arya and myself to the door of the room Regis, Hana, and Arya's butler Alfred were in. Having Al connected to Hana made teleportation to nearby locations which I haven’t visited much simpler.

But when I saw the condition of the hallway, I took a deep sigh. The scene was a complete wreck, and Arya was astonished by what she saw. I guess Regis still cannot control her magic power if she directly forces her way in.

And I was no exception. As a result of my actions in the last fight, the big iron gate in the front was also cracked open. Fortunately for the two of us, we have got Hana as our angel.

I vaporized my own mystic webs which sealed the door so that in any case no hostile could enter the King’s chambers.

“Alicia is the fight over.” Regis was the first to come running forward followed by Hana.

“Yes. I wrapped it up quickly.” I answered as the two of us entered the room.

“Master can now finally heal them.” Hana looked happy as she also wanted for the king and the queen to be free.

“Mother… Father.” Arya whispered to herself with a pained look on her face. Quickly rushing to the bedside, her shoulders slumped on seeing the two most dear faces of her life safe. She might have been finally able to take a small breath of relief seeing them alive, though not awake.

The King’s bedroom was large enough for a king-sized bed without dominating it, and every piece of furniture in this room was exquisitely styled. And on that bed, between their pale complexion, dried-out lips, and incredibly faint breathing, the King and Queen were rested.

Simply rested because if one did not know they had been poisoned or cursed for eternal unconsciousness; they would have simply assumed them to be peacefully asleep. It had already been a month and I had expected them to be in much worse condition since they could not be fed. But it seems that they had been administered all possible treatments in the meantime despite the fact that none of them worked.

But now that I look closely, I exactly knew why earthly magic did not work. The type of magical energy radiating from their body was dense black miasma. And because Arya could see this foreign energy too, she sought the unexplored methods in the demon continent.

Could it really be one of the apostles I recently encountered but it looks more troublesome? So, I could not rule out the possibility of a heavenly being involved and I did not want to think it could be one of the Gods or reincarnates behind this whole conspiracy.

But I have no evidence to prove my assertion. And at the same time, I just might be overthinking it.

“Princess what about…?” Alfred breaks the silence in the room by inquiring about Oweyn Stark.

“There is no need to worry anymore,” Arya says nodding her head and Alfred got the hint.

He quickly prepared two chairs beside the king and queen. The first was occupied by me and another by Arya.

I began to quickly examine the King and the Queen with my own [ALL SEEING EYES OF THE GODS].

“Can they be healed?” Arya’s voice came out trembling as she sat face-down, gripping her hands together tightly. And in between them, she held her parent’s hand almost unknowingly. Like a toddler in fear of getting separated from their parent while together traveling on the road.

“Yes. I can do it.”

Of course, I couldn’t call myself a magical genius if I couldn’t even do this much.

“Really….” Arya looked at me with the brightest face she had ever made since I met her.

It makes me wonder if this is how doctors feel when they announce a person's full recovery to their loved ones. There is such a difference between knowing and feeling. I just might get addicted to it. And for some reason it also made me feel so warm and calm. Like I had already somehow experienced this.

“Then let’s begin”. I said with a small glint in my eyes.

To be honest I do not know how the poison was synthesized without studying the actual poison sample. But we did know that they were poisoned by the Stark General and perhaps someone willingly gave it to him too.

The dense black miasma, a byproduct of the poison was completely spread throughout their body and plagued their magical nerves. The ailment was simple since the black miasma was inhibiting the transfer of neural responses throughout the body, the brain forced them into a coma.

A few months more and without treatment, they would eventually have died.

This would be the first time I would be using my divine healing magic on someone else in this world. The treatment would involve using my divine magic attribute to purify all the dark miasma in their body at once.

I would have to corner the black miasma and make sure not a single trace is left. Otherwise, the miasma might retaliate and bring more harm if the process is not smooth.

Usually, dark miasma and divine magic are conflicting elements and would produce disastrous results when fused. But thanks to all the training in the labyrinth I was finally able to achieve full control over my magic powers.

Focusing on my divine magic, I extended the palm of my hand out over them.

[DIVINE HEAL]

The moment my soul core fosters divine magic and I try to wield it in the outside world.

Golden light from my palm dribbled over the heart of the King and Queen, appealing to their soul realm first.

The golden light softly caressed their bodies and synergically enters into their system.

“WAAhhhhh…” Arya let out an astonished sigh. Most probably she too was able to see the fusion of the dark miasma and Divine Magic.

Everyone in the room was admiring and I myself was astonished by my own power. As if the whole room was now bathed in the sun’s rays.

I had no use for this magic after fighting Xenos on the 100th floor of the labyrinth.

I could only reason that my gluttony skill had devoured too much energy and I leveled up after fighting the Doctor.

Rather than get distracted, I pushed on. The divine healing magic disintegrated the black miasma, starting with their soul. The group watches in awe as the King and Queen’s breathing becomes steady.

Keeping my concentration, I carried out the detailed route of their magical nerves and thwarted the black miasma for good. A minute passed during this.

Eventually, the light petered out, and when I was sure there was nothing wrong. I finally stopped circulating magic and pulled back my hands.

The complexion of the two had been restored and the circulation of blood in their body resumed.

“Father… Mother.” Arya calls out.

And maybe that was the actual final touch required as the two quickly respond to that calling by opening their eyes. To them, it was nothing less than a sort of miracle, which I promised Arya.

The King and the Queen slowly sit up and look around in confusion. They touch their chest and could feel their heart beating. They were now completely healed.

Arya had tears in her eyes as she leaped on them like a springboard had been attached to her seat. Alfred too seems to be crying but like an elegant man, he had a handkerchief dabbed to his eyes.

“Father… Mother. You are finally awake.”

The two parents blinked for some time and now that they have properly adjusted to the lighting of the room.

Seeing their daughter in tears, they must have realized something bad must have happened to them. Most probably the dose was so strong they might not even have the chance to realize they were poisoned until they fell asleep.

Regis was trying to hide her face or was trying to look away. That’s unfair. While it must have been a new experience for Hana so she just stood and watched in admiration.

I was glad that the mask I was wearing found some good use for me.

Seeing foreign faces and unexplainable circumstances, the two had no choice but to ask their most trusted butler as the King beckoned to him.

Arya did not speak a word nor she showed any intention to move away from her parents.

“My King!” Butler Alfred rushed over to the king. He took the king’s hand, measured his pulse, and examined his eyes, among various other tests. He repeated the same process for the Queen.

So, he has medical skills as well… isn’t he just too handy. I hope Hana can learn something from him.

“...You two are the very picture of health. In fact, your conditions are better than before you were poisoned like you have become young again.”

‘Ehhhh… did I go overboard with the divine healing process. I can’t let anyone else know.’ I thought to myself as I tried to stiffen my expression so Regis does not catch that something is wrong.

“I think I now understand what really has happened.” The King spoke for the first time after waking up.

“Arya…” The Queen gently caresses Arya’s hair, and now the two were looking at their daughter.

“This is the healer and her companions, who cured yours and the Queen’s condition at Princesses’ request.” Alfred introduced us to the King and Queen.

“I see. You have saved my life, and for that, you have my sincerest gratitude!”

“Thank you, little miss Healer.”

The King and Queen had serene expressions on their faces as the two were calm when they had their daughter close to them.

Alfred handed the King his royal robes, a red cape thick to serve as a coat, and had the King and Queen get ready, elegantly.

They got ready so fast! On the other hand, I was so sluggish just getting ready for school in the morning hours. Mostly because I didn’t want to go and I had been half-killed several times just falling from my bed while half-asleep.

The ability to not go to school anymore…, being in another world is the best.

Just looking for a moment, anyone could see the dignified authority of the man who held the position of the King in this Kingdom. Despite the briskness of the situation, he was accessing it calmly.

The Queen had the same hair as Arya, a lighter shade of blue, and was really gorgeous like the one anyone could have associated with a folk tale.

“My name is Alicia; this is Regis and Hana.” I decided to introduce ourselves. Honestly, I had no idea how to act after being thanked by a king. But according to my Mother’s secret technique, just being direct and short can solve everything. It was better than freezing up and not being able to say anything.

“It seems like our Daughter had a very difficult time.” The King looks at Arya and continues, “Alfred tell me all that has happened.”

Alfred gave a brief description of how the Princess ventured into the Demon Continent and brought us for help from there and the fewer details he knew about the conspiracy of Oweyn Stark.

The whole palace was sealed by Oweyn’s guards and all attendants and nobles living in the castle were locked away.

“Hrmph...” The king fell deep into thought at Alfred’s description. A sad expression lurked on his face.

“Arya, you really saved our lives. You have grown up to be a splendid daughter.” The Queen’s lap still played the role of Arya’s cot. Her ease sure had made her forget that we were still watching.

“We don’t even know what type of poison was employed. Or how my brother got into contact with something so dangerous that we have no knowledge about.” The King thought as much. By now he had guessed the involvement of a third party in this.

Oweyn Stark was no fool, so his collaborator must have been someone of strong influence to make him do his bidding and feel this confident.

“I will find them, no matter what it takes.” Arya sits up and with an infuriated look makes her intentions clear.

“No, you won’t.”

“But…”

“You will leave the investigation to the royal court. I don’t want you getting hurt again just when we have escaped certain death.”

The King was in full denial of Arya’s course of action. He was betrayed by his brother and his family was in grave danger. With Arya being so stubborn he decided to be strict for her own safety.

But I highly doubt Arya will stop looking and will only be passive for a little while.

“Those who are intoxicated by their own sense of righteousness do tend to become blind to what happens around them. Being a Royal family member and yet he tried to assassinate my family for his own gains and position no matter how noble his cause sounds. I cannot forgive him, nor forget the fact that he was also my precious brother.” The King had a broken heart. He never expected a betrayal from one of his own family members and try to usurp him.

But at the same time, he knew he needed to take control of the kingdom back in his hands again, so these would only be the few moments while he could still reminiscence for his own brother.

“For now let’s focus on resuming the court back to normal and I will give my verdict on the situation after I have gained more disposition for the matter.” The King quickly wanted to resume work. Because of his dilapidated condition, the whole castle must have been in turmoil and all the work would have piled up.

Arya seemed to tighten her grip around the two.

“Sweetheart don’t worry, we are not going anywhere, and let’s spend the whole day together.” The Queen was a really gentle woman.

“Alicia and everyone, thank you very much for saving my parent’s life. I am really glad you did this for me.” Arya finally turns to Regis, Hana, and me.

“Please, don’t worry about it. I’m just glad the King and Queen are feeling all better now.” I felt overjoyed for Arya as well.

“It looks like you have finally made some good friends.” The King smiles at his daughter which makes her blush. He had never seen her daughter being so friendly around anyone before.

“I think you should spend a day or two recovering,” I suggested, though there was no need after my magic spell and how super effective it proved to be.

“Yes, we will do as you say.” The King was polite and then he looks at Alfred.

“See that our guests are properly accommodated in their rooms and that everything they need is provided. You all are welcome to stay in this palace as long as you want. I will see to it that you are greatly rewarded for your services in saving this kingdom.”

I was glad the King was a polite man and was happy with the fact we could get the best accommodation than we could have ever hoped for. Most of the time finding a good place to stay in a foreign place is always trouble.

“This way please.” Alfred became our guide now as the three of us followed outside. I was happy we could give Arya room to spend time with her family alone.

It was also great that we could stay here for a while because now I had to decide where to go. Since we can’t go in four directions at the same time, we needed to dig up for any leads in this place only.

Regis also seemed happy with the arrangement. We were shown to the guest’s quarters and they were the most refined in both appearance and how big size of the room was.

Regis insisted we stay in the same room, most probably so that I don’t wander off.

“Please call me immediately if you need anything. You are Princess Arya’s friends and so you don’t need to hold back. More servants will be joining to get things ready for you. Now if you will excuse me.” Alfred left the place while the three of us still had a whole half day left to decide what to do next.

THE NIGHT

That night, Regis was unable to find herself sleeping properly. It was her first time stepping foot outside her country and she had now crossed a sea to reach another continent. After seeing Arya united with her family, she felt homesick being so far away from home.

She had decided to follow Alicia because she wanted to see the outside world with her own eyes. And the second reason she had kept it secret from all was that she could not leave Alicia all on her own.

Regis was now standing at the attached balcony gazing silently at the night sky. Inside the room, Alicia was fast asleep on the bed.

“Huhhh… She spent the entire day in the library trying to learn everything about the Human Continent’s history and geography. And we still couldn’t find anything about the person she has been looking for. It almost seems impossible. Perhaps Arya could help us in some way. I wonder what good of a guide I can be in this situation when I still don’t know a single thing about this place myself.” Regis sighed and sulked.

She admired how big and lavish the place was compared to her own Elf palace.

“Maybe the next day I will go into the city and look for something. There’s no leaving here till we find ourselves a clue.” Regis finally decides to go back to bed and not tire herself by waking up the whole night.

“Regis…” Suddenly Hana appeared in front of her.

“What are you doing by waking up so late?” As usual, Regis was acting like the big sister herself.

“I was practicing cooking for the first time and Mr. Alfred taught me how to make the sandwiches he served us this evening. Will you please try.”

“…They sure were tasty,” Regis says remembering the spicy taste. She picked up a slice from the plate and stuffed one of them in her mouth.

“I am sure Master will like them. And because Master is good at cooking. It’s a given that I must be too.” Hana declared herself to be a good chef proudly.

Regis for a moment pondered and then she had an idea.

“Hana, your consciousness is connected to Alicia, and even though I don’t know how that works. Can you tell me everything about Alicia?”

“That’s true and not at the same time. It's mostly the skills and general knowledge passed down to me and her magic power. And though I cannot access all her memories. I do feel their presence and emotions.” Hana explains to Regis in a turnaround manner and all Regis could give was a blatant look.

“Does Alicia really need me here? She can freeze the entire sea in a blink of an eye or defeat the general of a kingdom with a single magic spell.” Regis looks away after saying. She did not want to think about the matter but at the same time, she could not stop overthinking it.

“If you remember the attack on the coach Master could have easily taken care of them even when they were far away and stopped their attack.”

“Then why did she not do it?” Regis had that certain doubt in her mind as well.

“Because they were after Miss Arya’s life and till then she had not decided to get involved in the matter except healing the King and the Queen.”

“Then if I hadn’t tried to stop them…, then Alicia would have let them do what they wanted.” Regis was in utter shock. She could not believe Hana’s words but also she would have no reason to lie here

“That I do not know. All I can say is that the master is happiest around you and she trusts you the most here.”

“Then answer me this. Would Alicia had left me back then if I had lost the duel.” Regis almost plunged on Hana in desperation. The only question that had been eating her from the moment she had won that match.

And to that big question, Hana smiled, as the moonlight lit up her face while her yellow eyes sparkled like gold in it.

“Yes. Master would have considered it to be dangerous for you to travel together in that case.”

Regis’s hands were still tightly clutched to Hana’s shoulder.

“Don’t ever say that to me,” Regis spoke in a voice filled with disbelief. But she could see that happening. And so those words were really meant for Alicia herself.

She couldn’t have taken it if Alicia said that directly to her.

Finally, Regis’s mind was clear even though the answer to it was hurtful. She takes a deep breath and lifting up her head gazes at Hana.

“These….” Surprisingly a longing expression appears on Regis's face as she examines Hana's lips.

Hana gulps since Regis was getting so close, and her heartbeat begins to beat faster.

“Mas…ter’s feeling….” Hana could barely whisper.

“…these sandwiches taste awful.” Regis completes her statement and then straightens up.

“Huhhh… you are really awful and mean Regis.” Hana’s face was struck with lightning as she felt that she had been cheated. But did not know how and made a crying face for it.

Regis without minding Hana’s outburst for the last time looked at the peaceful night before deciding to go to bed and wondered, ‘Is there really someone out there who can prove to be a match for her.’
