Chapter 93: Fae for a Witch

Chapter 93: Fae for a Witch

Freya wondered not for the first time if her grandmother was purposefully ignoring her calls. She stared down at the phone as it dialed again for what was the twenty-eighth time according to the phone.

Her grandmother had always been there for her before, so why was it when she needed her most she was being ignored. She knew for a fact that her grandmother had a phone and wasn't as tech-blind as she pretended to be.

Sure she preferred more classic and magic means, but Freya has bought her a phone for her 434th birthday a few years ago. Custom designed to fit her grandmother's old-school look.

"C'mon granny, pick up, please."

"Freya, you OK?"

Freya jumped and turned to see Carmen staring at her in worry. You've been staring at your phone and muttering to yourself for the past." She glanced at her computer screen. "Forty minutes. Who are you so desperate to call?"

"Nothing, a family issue."

"Oh, well I'm here if you need a hand or you know you can ask one of the magi techs. That is their job after all."

"I'll think about it, thanks."

She doubted anybody would be able to help her. If her grandmother wasn’t picking up then it was likely on purpose and that meant there was a reason. She couldn’t call her mother who was currently out of plane. She considered the possibility her grandmother was ignoring her due to due a fate reading.

That worried her and made her wonder. Ever since the last vision, she had been considering what to do. Her first idea had been to talk and get advice from her grandmother which she had already been trying to do even before she had drunk both fate potions, but that tree was still bearing no fruit. It didn't seem like it would anytime soon.

Freya was in unknown territory and didn't know what to do. She had never had to deal with something like this before, not on this scale. Whatever she did, she needed to stop looking at her phone before her boss came in and reprimanded her

As she looked back to her screen, she felt an itch beginning on the back of her neck. She turned and found herself looking into the eyes of a fae. It was one of the fae who was working on the theft, and she recalled seeing this woman with Nate, the rude detective she’d met at the bombing.

"Ermm, can I help you?"

"You can. You've been looking at the files on a minor sorcerer by the name of Richard Halls. I would like to know why."

Freya tried to keep calm as she intently cursed herself. Of course, the DOSA network would keep a track of who looked at what. She hadn’t been thinking when she had. She’d been far too worked up and focused on stopping Rick. Luckily, she was able to think up a semi-decent reason.

"I was just looking over some stuff. I was at the bombing of his apartment. I did a reading and I wanted to see if I could piece anything else together."

"And did you?"

"No, I'm afraid not."

"I see, well thank you for your help." The words were monotone and her eyes had remained emotionless and cold the entire time. Freya didn't know whether the fae thought she was lying or was just usually lifeless.

I should warn them just in case. She also wanted to talk to that damn book, and see what he'd pieced together about her vision. Maybe this time, he wouldn’t ignore and shoo her away. Then again, Freay sort of understood his dislike for her. She had, afterall, tired to kill his master.

Freya stood, and grabbed her coat before leaving. She hadn't needed to come in today, but between that and staying home and pacing, she chose work.

Sivelle watched the witch leave and waited for a few breaths before she grabbed her jacket and followed. This was all based on a single line of text she’d noted from Nathan’s report, but she’d managed to corroborate that with the healer who’d healed Richard halls and get some details. Maybe she was looking too deep, but just maybe this would be her lucky day.
