Prologue-Chapter 0.5

A large amount of water landed onto a currently barren farmland, with a few seeds planted into it.

A handsome young man with dark black hair, a lean muscular build and rather tanned skin with a cheerful aura was using a large ladle to splash water across the field.

The young man was the only son of a farmer couple, thus when his parents were out he had to tend to the fields in their stead.

After a few more splashes, the boy accurately tossed the ladle into a huge wooden pail half full with water. Then, while nimbly avoiding the channels of water used for irrigation, he began to walk towards his storehouse to take out a small knife and a beautiful red apple.

Afterwards, he began walking towards his family’s ancestral shrine. He gently pushed aside the door to walk into the shrine.

“Hey ancestors, your descendant Jiang Fei is here to pay respects to you today. I even brought an apple, let me just peel it first though.” Jiang Fei happily said, clearly in a good mood.

‘Today is going to be great! My parents left for the village to trade items, no crops need to be harvested since we just replanted them, and after paying my respects I can go back to sleeping.’ This thought caused Jiang Fei’s lips to curve exponentially upwards and it seemed that a spring had been added to his step as he bounced forward towards the altar.

Eager to go back to sleep sooner, Jiang Fei recklessly started peeling the apple in his hand extremely fast, the knife swiftly glided across the glossy red skin of the apple revealing a beautiful golden yellow interior.

“Ouch, fuck.” Jiang Fei had accidentally overextended and cut the ring finger of his left hand which was holding the apple.

He hurriedly placed the knife and apple on the altar, holding his ring finger as far away from the apple as possible, and scampered around to find something he could press onto his finger to stop the bleeding.

As he moved, a drop of blood dripped down from his bleeding finger right onto the smack centre of the floor.

A radiant light emanated throughout the whole ancestral shrine, after a while the light faded and a staircase descending into a well-lit basement was revealed.

“Holy cow, what was that? Was that staircase always there? Maybe there will be some rags down there?” Not really thinking straight at this point, due to the scare of cutting himself and the sudden bright light, Jiang Fei ventured down into the newly revealed basement.

He quickly found a beautiful towel laying on a wooden table by the entrance of the staircase’s landing and picked it up to stop the bleeding.

After the bleeding scare ended, Jiang Fei began to properly take in his surroundings.

‘Woah, are those books? All those books must be worth over a hundred gold, in my whole life I have only seen one book, and that was the village’s communal alphabet book which is shared by everyone.’ Jiang Fei internally exclaimed.

Realising there were numerous bookshelves in the room, Jiang Fei walked to the centre one and observed the dust patterns to determine which one was last touched.

Seeing as how all the books, and everything in this room, was in pristine condition he decided to just pick out a random book and started reading.
