27. Essential Services... Recruitment...

Bertona Park

Ottawa, Canada

Rene activated the Omega sub-ability Force Field. He was glad that he had someone help him with the first time activation of this essential power.

[Now that you have the pattern set, slowly fill it up with energy.] Scarlett monitored the energy flow. [That's it. Keep the flow steady.]

'Scarlet no interruptions, please. It's hard enough as it is.' Rene was almost done.

When the pattern was filled with energy the virtual Planetary Base Force Field popped above the park.

'What was that noise?' Rene flinched, he thought he failed to activate the Force Field properly, and they were all going to die.

[Displayed air.] Scarlett's calm reply settled his nerves. The initial level for this particular sub-ability was a force field about 100 meters. The second would be ten times larger.

"I don't think that's gonna cut it," McLean observed.

"Not now Ritchie." Rene knew that wasn't big enough. The interruptions weren't helping. He looked at the woman with Richard McLean and begged her with his eyes to do something.

Lady Eleanore was a very smart lady. She had mastered basic body language when she was a teen. "Richard," she hooked elbows with the young captain and led him away. "Why don't we let your friend save our lives without further adding to his burden." McLean got it. He knew that he shouldn't have distracted Rene. He didn't know what the could do. That left him feeling helpless. He could leave, but that would mean only his life and if his team came along, would be safe. The costa dead city. The capital of his nation. He released a breath he was holding when he heard another pop when the force field expanded to a kilometer. 'that might be enough.' he hoped.

A flash distracted him from the drama unfolding above the city.

Rene's Android still held the alien Strike Leader. Her eyes were open and the light was coming out of her eyes.

"What..." He was about to redirect his attention to this new development.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

"No." Lady Eleanore insisted. "Whatever your talented friend is trying to do, do not interfere."

"How do you know he's talented?" He asked.

The loud pop startled the two officers. The force field expanded one more time. Richard's senses estimated the size grew by another factor of ten. The force field covered most of the city.

"If that's not talent, I don't know what it would take to impress you." She whispered seductively into his ear.

The shiver was involuntary. He saw that the Strike Leader was now standing on her own. She was still close to the android, but he wasn't holding her captive.

"What do you think?" He pointed at the mechanical duo.

"They made friends?" She had no idea how mechanical people behaved. These two were something new. "Ooh." She held tight to Richard's hard sculpted body. The entire Park was bathed in the blinding light of the first salvo of the planetary bombardment.

No pain meant that Richard's friend did as he promised. The earth shook under the overwhelming pressure, she guessed that Rene Wilder had anchored the force field to the ground. The blasts from space did not penetrate the shield, but the pressure from the powerful blasts had to go somewhere. "Impressive." And it was. "Encore." She hoped.

Another salvo hit and again they were almost blinded by the light. However, the evolutionary abilities she commanded helped her withstand the light with little to no effort.

Again the earth shook, but the time to worry about their impending destruction was passed. She didn't let go of Richard, he was much too pleasant to let go off.

Another salvo hit, "this grows tiresome. Mr. Wilder, could you please dissuade we would be overlords from continuing with this reckless display of might, and disregard for terrestrial life?" She knew she played it on thick, but she needed to get this new power moving in the direction she wanted, the right direction.

"Good idea. Blast them, Rene." Lady Eleanore heard the brother as he endorsed her course of action.

She could feel the energy build up from Mr. Wilder. He gathered the energy somewhere. She could feel it, but she couldn't see it. "Richard, can you see what he's doing?"

"No. I think he's holding the energy in a subspace pocket. I think we're only picking up on the pressure and leakage. What a monstrous power." Richard saw Rene release the blast. It was more powerful than the one he used to destroy the dropship.

The three UN Omega powerhouses used their new enhancements to follow the energy. The travel time from earth to low earth orbit was relatively short.

The warship moved out of the direct path, but not fast enough. When the plasma projectile exploded the splash damage was enough to rock the spaceship.

It wasn't destroyed. It was a close thing.

"You missed." Lady Eleanore observed.

"It was a warning shot," Rene explained.

"Nyet tovarish. It moves. Yuri saw."

Rene smiled at the Russian, "I can guide the projectile."

The implications of that simple statement flooded the watchers.

"I can't move it much in an atmosphere, but the longer the range the better. However, once it reaches space," Rene's smile became vicious. "There's no more resistance. I can move it faster than the spaceship can maneuver."

The three UN Omega powerhouses tracked the warship as it made its best speed to the far side of the moon.

Lady Eleanore saw that the other Wilder was watching with them. He was tracking the ship the same way they were. 'What an interesting family.' she directed her senses to the Wilders and the energy she could feel around them was the same level of energy she felt around Richard and the others.

"How would you Wilder's like to work with me and Richard as part of the UN? You would get to travel and see the world and be paid for it." She gave them her best seductive smile.

The teen was intrigued, but her weak attempt at seduction was reduced to nothing as he continued to hold the space Elf captive.

The RCMP commander laughed at her idea. Flat out laughed. The nerve of this colonial.

"No thank you, ma'am." My family is here in Ottawa. My friends are here. My work is here. Thank you for the offer but I am afraid I must decline."

"I tried my best darling." She laughed as she looked at Richard.

"Nothing ventured. Nothing gained." He held up his index finger, "one moment please El. I just received a party invite from the Prime Minister."
