Waiting in front of his computer, Keith Replian sat eagerly awaiting the moment when Royal Road would first to go online. Having already plugged into his capsule, he watched as the timer before his eyes slowly made its way down to less than five minutes before start up. Looking back on the past couple of months, life had been hectic for Keith.
It all started when an announcement rang out within the gaming community that the world’s first virtual reality MMORPG would be coming out. At first, it was only the obsessed gamers who paid attention to it. Virtual Reality gaming had come out a couple of years before with a very limited game selection. Most of it was sports oriented or strategy based. All in all, every gamer knew that an MMO had to come out eventually.
When Keith had first seen the news about Royal Road, he had been skeptical about the game’s quality. His family was one of the few to own a game capsule. Keith’s father had been a gamer in his prime and had decided that virtual reality was worth the high cost. Yet after receiving the console, Keith had been highly disappointed in what had come out. In a way it was similar to the Wii system his father used to talk about. Most of the games were party or mini games, with little to no story.
So seeing a MMO pop up as the new trend only deflated Keith’s opinion of Virtual Reality further. Yet when he got online, all the forums he frequented was bursting with expectation. Within a few days, along with his own research, he was convinced that maybe it might be the best game for an avid gamer to make a reputation. He had tried playing Continent of Magic but, every time he entered a dungeon, almost always, some lone fighter would annihilate and steal Keith’s best equipment. With all the respawn penalties, Keith never managed to reach over level 163. If he changed games now, then he might not meet the character named Weed any more.
After raising up enough money for the subscription and monthly fee, Keith had planned out how to build his entire character. He would become an elf archer with maxed out agility and strength. It would all be perfect!
"Keith!!!!" Screaming at the top of her lungs, Keith's youngest sister, Sharon, made her way into his room. She was about eight years old with black hair and grey eyes. She was small for her age, but not terribly so. The cute mix of Korean and American blood from their parents made her features out to be extremely cute. The problem was her superiority complex that virtually said she was boss of everyone and they should know it.
She continued her rant, "Don't do it, Don't do it Please!!!”. Staring up at Keith in an attempt to subdue him she gave her best puppy dog face, which in truth looked more like a death glare. “Stay out of here and let me play some first!!!"

Even after Keith had bought his own capsule and the game with his own money, his sisters kept insisting on letting them play on the family capsule and his personal capsule while he sat back and waited his turn. After about a week of these arguments, the american half of their parents ,their father, exploded at breakfast, cutting off everyone.
"Sharon you're too young to play this game anyways. From what I hear it is the exact opposite of what you need to be playing! Let your brother and sister play. Then when you're older or when I feel it's safe for you, then maybe you can join in." Having resolved the issue he had turned back to his paper opening it up to the sports section while blindly grabbing at some toast.
The problem was that Sharon was only eight. Saying no to her only made her want it more. Raising her eyebrows at Keith she began to pout. Her trembling lip and glaring puppy dog eyes used to work on him. But no longer! He was a new man! Independent! Hardworking! A Senior in High School! No mere lip trembling would break him! That is until she actually started crying...
“UhhhwhahhhahhahaWWAHHAAAA!!!!”
Seeing those tears almost broke him into giving in. If it wasn't for his twin sister Emily walking in behind Sharon and putting her into a headlock, Sharon may have had her way. I mean what older brother wouldn't give up something for his little sister's happiness?
As soon the headlock was completed, Sharon cut the crocodile tears and flailed around trying to escape. Having extremely tomboyish sisters sometimes made life interesting, but now was not the time to mess around. As his sisters wrestled for a bit he noticed the time for the launch was in 30 seconds.
Rushing upstairs to his room, Keith hopped into the capsule concentrating once again on the task in front of him as the countdown finally reached the numbers 10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1
Right before the time ran out, he heard one last protest from Sharon as Emily apparently dropped her as Emily cried out in annoyance, "No fair! Now I'm gonna be late for the launch!"
Surrounded by blackness Keith was a little let down... Really, that was the start up? No banners or streams of fireworks? Nope, nothing but the dark. That is until a bright white light surrounded his vision.
