Chapter 64: The Deal

Chapter 64: The Deal

Druella gently opened the stone door with one hand. A gentle breeze blew across her body as she stepped outside and into the backyard of the castle. She stood to the side and held the door while waving toward the table set only a few steps away from the it, "After you, Cynthia."

Selina walked through the door, her Threaded Cane's tapping silenced by the soft grass outside. She glanced at Druella from beneath her hat, "Hunter is fine."

"But Cynthia is a much nicer name," Druella smiled, her red eyes shining within her dark sclera. Selina swore she could see a glint of mischief within them. As if she was already testing to see where her limits were.

Selina simply stared Druella down and said, "All the same, I prefer Hunter."

Not waiting to see Druella's smile fall, she walked over to the table. Two seats had already been prepared for them, both covered in embroidered white sheets. The same sheets were on the table with white stainless plates. Laid out in front of it was a massive acre of land: green arable land covered in flowers and beautifully manicured bushes. Nobu's skeletal form stood some distance away, head down as he ate the wet grass beneath his hooves. The skies above were clear, but the area was still wet with rain and puddles.

As Selina made it to the table, she was vaguely aware of the sounds of other footsteps following behind. She pulled out the seat on the right and sat down, catching movement out the corner of her eye. Looking to the right she saw Koga walking out into the field with his eyes focused on a point in the distance. Following closely after him was a single succubus who seemed to float above the ground. Long silver hair reached all the way to her waist, which was where her heavily scaled wings were. She wore a skintight black body suit with a dark black and red cape worn over her shoulders. Her black and red metal gauntlets matched her similarly colored boots, while a single black longsword hung from her right hip. As the two passed Koga, a happy and needy sigh left her lips.

Koga paused and spoke with as much venom as possible, "Do not get too close to me, creature. Lest you wish to feel the sting of my blade cleaving through your heart?"

However, his words had the opposite effect on the woman. Instead of gasping in disgust, she swooned while a hand went over her heart. Her voice trembled as she spoke, "Aaaah~! Such aggression, such disgust! And to say that to a-a highly proud Dark Knight such as myself!~ Pl-Please, say more!~ Admonish me more!~"

Koga's glare was filled with revulsion as he continued walking away from the woman. Unfortunately, that only seemed to make her more enamored with him. She continued to float after him while mumbling nothings to herself. Selina didn't know what to make of the situation. She couldn't see how the woman could actively want Koga to berate her more, nor see how anyone could derive pleasure from something like that. Perhaps it was another strange thing unique to Mamono?

She banished those thoughts as more individuals began walking past her line of sight. The Fallen Maidens. She had learned all their names on the way here, and took great care to memorized their appearances. They would be one of the major factors she would have to consider. Both for if she wished for her negotiations to go smoothly...and in case they did not. The first two that crossed her sight were Elt and Sasha Fullmoon. The young man looked little different from the time they had run into each other on the way here. He had the same plain shirt and trousers on, with his vibrant crimson hair forming a cover over his eyes. She swore he glanced at her for a moment, but she couldn't be certain. Mainly because Sasha was pulling him along by his arm. She made sure to retain Sasha's appearance as much as possible. After all, she had to give the bracelet to her. She wouldn't be able to accomplish that if she didn't know who she was looking for.

The sight of the two young girls, very clearly Mamono, following along in Sasha and Elt's wake made her skin crawl. She felt her hands grip the table tight enough to make it shake and had to force her feelings down. She was here to talk. Even if she wanted to do something about that, it would only harm her chances here. She would have to wait. Even if it hurt to do so.

After those four came the technical ruler of the Demon Realm. At least, if one were to judge who should rule based on bloodline. Francisca Mistel Lescatie. Wherever the girl walked, a trail of thick green slime followed in her wake. And yes, Selina did mean walk. She had seen pale legs within the barely translucent "slime skirt" that the girl wore. But one could hardly be blamed for thinking she had no legs. From her shoulders to her legs, a large black mass of tendrils acted as a grotesque "dress" for the girl. Each one had a sickly green eye in the middle of it, while they leaked a strange fluid onto the ground. The only parts of Francisca that could be seen were her dainty hands, bountiful breasts, sultry face, singular pure red eye, and her long purple hair. Atop her head sat a black tiara with the same eye that the tendrils had on its center. The girl seemed to sense Selina eying her and turned to meet her gaze. As they locked eyes, Francisca's face turned pale and she sped up to stay close to Elt.

The next to pass her by was Matilda but she was not alone. The Living Doll was running hand in hand with another little girl. The pink haired one that Selina had almost strangled with her...ability. Mimil Miltie. She grimaced in despair, though she wasn't sure if that was because she almost killed the girl, or because the girl had become a Mamono. She was the same height as Matilda and skipped along with the doll in the most childish way possible. But Mimil's outfit was anything but that. She was essentially naked from the front, with a strange-looking coat being the only thing keeping her sensitive parts hidden from view. The coat seemed to be alive as it wriggled and writhed with each movement Mimil made. A long pink tattoo ran from her stomach to her crotch, shining even in this dim sunlight. Her long black boots complimented the strange, twisting staff wrapped around her right wrist. Said staff seemed to be two thick tentacles that were entwined at the tip. She didn't even pay the Huntress any attention, too busy laughing and playing with Matilda as the two ran passed. Matilda caught Selina's gaze out the corner of her eye and gave her an understanding nod.

Selina nodded back as they ran into the open plain before them. Following Matilda was Alameria Crescentria, who was leading Eva Mystiv and speaking to her about what Matilda had told her. The Dark Strategist paused for a moment to stare at Selina. The Huntress could feel the Alp scrutinizing her, as if she were a puzzle to be solved. Or an enemy to be outmaneuvered and defeated. She was eventually pulled away by Alameria. Selina still had to stifle a chuckle when she thought of the Dhampir's name.

When she next looked up, it was into the bright red and green eyes of another Maiden. This one blinked at her while tilting her head from side to side. Her slightly pointed nose twitched as she sniffed the air, while her pointed ears moved up and down from the sides of her head. Selina raised an eyebrow at the girl, "May I help you?"

The girl was silent for a moment. Then she frowned while standing up straight, giving Selina a clear idea of who, and what, she was. Primera Concerto. A half-elf that was turned into a werewolf. However, she was nothing like the werewolves that Selina had faced once before. Like them Primera had fur covering her arms and legs, with her hands having turned into claws. Unlike them, her fur was a dark green that ran all the way up to her thighs and shoulders. On her left shoulder sat a strange wolf face with a deep purple eye in its head. It seemed to have clamped its jaws around her shoulder like a pelt. Her hair was the lightest of green with twin ponytails swaying the breeze behind her. A long bushy tail extended from just above her hind quarters and was currently sitting limp behind her. A large black bow was strapped around her shoulders. She pouted then pointed a finger at Selina and declared, "You smell bad. Stay away from Elt!"

And with that, she got on all fours and bounded away toward her husband. Selina simply watched her go before rolling her eyes. Her instincts kicked in and she quickly leaned forward in her chair to keep a long spade tail from touching her neck. Looking to her left she locked eyes with the, supposedly, "Strongest Hero in Lescatie". Or, as of now, the "Former Strongest Hero.".

Wilmarina Noscrim.

Surprisingly, the girl's attire was rather conservative when compared to the rest of them. Though that was not saying much. She at the very least had actual underwear on, along with long black stockings, and shoulder length black leather gloves that turned into pointed horns at her shoulders. But the only other article of clothing she wore was a strange skirt that seemed to be holding onto her breasts, literally. The only reason her nipples weren't exposed was because the hand-like clasps of the skirt kept them hidden. A strange dark blue and purple tattoo ran from the right side of her face down to her right tit. Her pointed ears twitched beneath her horns, while her red eyes shined with something that Selina couldn't place. Her spaded tail slithered back around her thigh while she gave Selina a full toothed grin. Not understanding what Wilmarina was doing, Selina just waved at the girl and went back to staring at the table.

She was drawn from her musings by the sound of slithering. She had to resist the urge to roll off the chair, memories of those strange colonies of snakes in the Forbidden Woods resurfacing. Turning to her right, she came face to face with the last of the Maidens. Merse Dascaros. Her upper torso was plainly human. She wore dark green sleeves, the same-colored skirt, and an extremely small coat that only covered her nipples. A black snake tattoo ran down her left breast all the way to her left hip. Her right eye was covered by a thick, dark green strap that was held in place by a shining red pendant. Her silver hair was tied in a strange ponytail, with her hair sticking up like the feathers of a peacock. But that was the only human part about her. Her entire lower body was that of a snake. A dark upper half with orange-colored scales on her underbelly, the woman moved along the ground as if it was second nature to her. In her right hand she gripped a spear that curled around her arm and looped around to her back. The weapon seemed to move whenever Selina looked at it.

However, Selina soon realized that the weapon was moving.

Because it wasn't a spear. But a snake. A long, orange reptile, whose upper half was a snake but who's bottom looked like a spear's shaft. Its beady eyes were locked onto Selina as its dark blue tongue kept tasting the air.

Selina sat up straighter as Merse's shadow fell over her. The snake woman's lips were curled into a small smile while her pointed triangular ears twitched in happiness. She extends her dainty, gloved hand toward Selina and speaks with a voice that could enchant weaker men, "Greetings, Hunter Cynthia. At the risk of sounding too forward, would you care to come see me once you have spoken to the Lady Lilim? I feel that we would have much to discuss."

Selina, curious as to where Merse was going, took the offered hand in her gloved one. The two exchanged a gentle handshake as Selina nodded, "I will...see what I can do."

"Thank you. I look forward to our talk," Merse's smile widened as she released Selina's hand and slithered away from the Huntress. Selina watched her go, trying to make sense of how a human mind was able to cope with such a body. She could barely imagine what it had to feel like to move along the ground without legs. Perhaps the undulations of Merse's lower half served that purpose?

She heard someone sit down in the other chair and moved to sit up straight in her seat to look them in the eye. She soon locked eyes with the one Mamono she had come here to speak with. The one who conquered this nation and turned it into a Demon Realm. The one who had gained a strange fascination with her from afar. The one who had caused her to come here in the first place.

Druella, the White Lilim.

The sunlight above made her skin seem even smoother than normal. She leaned forward and casually rested her chin in her hand. Her lips were curled into a small smile while her gleaming red eyes stared at Selina. Her expression was soft and she seemed to be appreciating Selina's appearance. However, Selina felt as if Druella was trying to glare through her clothes. She kept catching the Lilim's eyes falling to her chest before moving back to her eyes. Druella was the first to break the silence between them, "So, Hunter Albion, I'm dying to learn what you think of-"

"Call off the attack on Pran, please."

Druella went quiet at Selina's interruption. But her expression remained the same even as she readjusted in her seat. She crossed her legs below the table and placed her other hand on her chin, "Quite forward, aren't you? That's fine, but do you really want to talk about that so soon? I was hoping we could learn a bit about each other first."

"That is not the reason I came here," Selina explained, her face obscured by her bandana and hat. She put a hand on the table keeping her back straight, "I came because I was made aware of your plans for Pran. And I wish to stop them from coming to fruition. Thus, I will not speak of anything that doesn't have to do with it."

"Ah, I assumed. But those things are so boring to talk about. I'd much rather talk about how your day has been. Or what you think of Lescatie's new look?" as Druella spoke, the door they had come out of opened again. From within the castle came two beastmen Mamono, wearing french maid uniforms. Bushy brown tails swung behind them as their ears flopped with each step they took. They carried two platters with large glass cups filled with white ice cream and fruit. The two walked to the table with Selina and Druella, eyes closed but able to maneuver without issue. One stopped on each side of the table, placing the glass cups down on the table in front of its occupants. Druella thanked the two while Selina watched them with suspicion. Noticing her glance, Druella explained as the two Mamono left them, "Kikimora. Their names are Ella and Syrie. I asked them to get some Essence Parfaits ready for us. I hope you enjoy. They're little Mimil's favorite."

Druella reached into her own Parfait with a single finger. She curled her dainty digit around one of the strawberries. The index finger was covered in a thick white cream and carrying the bright red fruit with it. Keeping her eyes locked onto Selina, she sensually popped her finger into her mouth. Her longer than average tongue slurped around the digit while she audibly hummed at the sweet taste in her mouth. She never once broke eye contact with Selina.

Selina didn't react in the slightest. Her only response was to push the Parfait toward Druella, "I am not hungry. You may have mine. And, even if the discussion would be 'boring', it is why I have come here. If you do not wish to participate, then I shall leave until you are willing to be serious about this."

Druella frowned while pulling her finger out of her mouth. She remained silent for a moment, eyes narrowing as she thought about what to say next. Her smile quickly returned as she spoke again, "As you wish. However, I do have questions about you. Questions that are just as important to me as negotiations are to you. If you would be so kind as to indulge those questions, I will do as you say. Is that agreeable?"

The Huntress narrowed her eyes while considering Druella's offer. After a few moments, she answered the Lilim, "Fine. However, I reserve the right to refuse to answer any questions you may ask. And, once you are finished, we will focus exclusively on the attack on Pran. Is that clear?"

"Yes, yes, I understand. May I get started then?" Druella sounded excited, her smile getting wider at the prospect of being able to ask her questions. Selina nodded then waved her hand to indicate she could. After being given permission, Druella asked aloud, "Don't you feel restrained in those tight clothes? I can't imagine they feel comfortable. Especially after being in the rain for so long."

"I am perfectly comfortable in these. And they are made of a special material that makes them dry quickly."

"You're sure? Because you know you don't need to be so covered up here? We are very open to any choice of attire."

"I have noticed. And while I appreciate the offer, I am more than happy as I am."

"Hmm, as you say," Druella tilted her head to the side and locked onto the bit of red hair that could be seen beneath the Huntress' hat, "You have such beautiful hair. Is it naturally that short?"

"No. I need to cut it every now and then to ensure it doesn't get in the way during battle."

"Ah, but is that really necessary? I'm certain you'd look so much prettier if you kept it long. Dancing across the battlefield with your crimson hair fluttering behind you."

"And getting tangled and made sticky thanks to the blood of my enemies. Or being grabbed by anyone who has half a mind to use it to their advantage."

"Now, who in their right mind would do such a thing to a lady?"

"Anyone who would face me and expects to live to see the next day."

Druella's smile turned into a frown. She tilted her head to the other side, tapping one of her fingers against the table, "You are rather focused on doing well in battle."

"It is only natural. I have found myself in many conflicts over the course of my life. Being prepared in case I must fight again is something I have grown used to."

"But isn't that rather sad? That you are so focused on battle that it can prevent you from enjoying life?"

"You...are not wrong," Selina admitted, eyes falling as she thought back to Gloria and Horace, "There are times that I wish my life was not filled with so much strife. That I may hang up my weapons and live a different life."

Druella's smile returned, "I thought so. I have some...experience dealing with such matters. Though, I assure you, that there is a way to solve your current problem."

The Lilim glanced over to Merse and Wilmarina, the two women feeding some fruit to Elt while the boy was wrapped in the Echidna's snake body. She looked back at Selina but was surprised to find her shaking her head. Selina looked Druella in the eye and spoke plainly, "I believe there is a misunderstanding. While I do wish that my life were more peaceful, I am well aware that much of my circumstances are brought on through my own decisions. For, while it pains me to fight, I know that I must. Because if I do not then those I care for will be put at risk. Them and others like them."

Druella's frown came back, "That may sound noble, but what about your own happiness? Don't you deserve to be happy as well? Why do something for others, if it will get in the way of you enjoying life?"

"Isn't it obvious? My happiness comes from seeing the happiness of those around me. If my actions can bring peace and smiles to even a small portion of people in this world, then it is a small price to pay to stain my hands with the blood of those who wish to harm them," Selina said this without a hint of hesitation.

The declaration temporarily left Druella speechless, but she was quick to recover. She shook off her shock and sat up straighter in her seat. Her smile returned as she nodded, "You sound rather confident in what you have said."

"I would not be here if I wasn't," Selina put both hands on the table, "Which brings me to my next point. I believe it is time we got to the discussions involving Pran, don't you?"

"Hmm, I did promise. Though I do still have questions, those can wait for another time. Which is a shame. I was looking forward to learning so much more about you," she giggled and ate some more of her Parfait.

"Then, I will simply reiterate what I stated before; Call off the attack on Pran, please. That is all I ask for."

Druella took her finger out of her mouth and hummed in thought. She tapped a finger against her lips as she made a show of considering the Huntress' words before saying, "If you don't mind my asking, why should I stop the attack?"

"Because there is no reason to," the Huntress began to explain, "It is a simple frontier town with no strategic value whatsoever. You would gain nothing from conquering it. The town is not ruled by anyone of ill repute, the people are generally happy, and want nothing from you. You have already conquered an entire nation and it hasn't even been a year yet. There is no reason to go after a small frontier town right now."

Selina went silent and waited for Druella's response. The Lilim raised an eyebrow, "You would not count the fact that you would stand against me as a reason not to?"

"There is no need, as you are already aware of that."

"True," her eyebrow fell as she took in the Huntress' words. She looked over at the field where the others were doing their own things. The Maidens were all around Elt, with the only exception being Mimil. The girl was talking with Matilda, Eva, and Almeria. Koga was walking alongside Nobu, patting his horse's neck as it grazed the bright green grass of the field. Vermut was always nearby, seemingly floating and pressing her fingers together while staring at Koga. Olivia and Paula were nowhere to be seen, the two having left earlier to be with their husbands. After a few minutes of silence, Druella spoke again, "Are there slums in Pran, Hunter Albion?"

Selina narrowed her eyes, "Yes, there are."

"Which would mean there are people who are unable to afford a home? Or have been given an unfortunate hand in life?"

"I would assume so."

"Well, there aren't any here. There used to be, when Lescatie was ruled by human hands. When the land wasn't filled with Mamono mana. When the people weren't able to feed themselves."

"...I cannot say you are wrong," Selina admitted, but did not lose confidence in her assertion, "But I have already stated that Pran is nothing like that. Lescatie's problems were solely on the shoulders of those that ruled it. Pran has no such issue."

Druella nodded her head, "I do agree that the previous rulers were the issue. Having met Castor, I can definitely say that if he was a more effective ruler, I never would've attacked Lescatie in the first place. However, this is not simply about the leadership. This is about the general happiness and prosperity of Pran."

"What do you mean?" Selina frowned at the White Lilim while she thought about what had been said up until this point.

Druella turned to stare at the Huntress, her lips curled into an expecting smile, "Exactly what I said. Ever since Lescatie became a Demon Realm, everyone's lives have been made better. No one goes hungry as our crops grow plentiful and strong. No one is poor, for Mana and love are the only currencies we use here. No one feels lonely, for there is always a wife or husband waiting for them somewhere. Our Realm is a paradise made for one and all. And we are not the only ones. Castor has brought multiple neighboring villages into the fold. They are on their ways to becoming Demon Realms, and gaining the same level of prosperity that we are experiencing."

She waves a hand toward the Huntress as she said, "Our lands are wonderful. And if Pran's lands are so poor that a place like the slums can exist, then that is enough reason to bring it into the fold. So that such things will be removed. Would you not agree, Cynthia?"

Selina remained silent for a few moments. Her eyes remained locked onto Druella's, as the Lilim waited to see her reaction. Her smile didn't waver even as Selina slowly started to shake her head. Finally, Selina responded, "Firstly, I already told you not to refer to me as Cynthia. Hunter or Hunter Albion is fine."

"Ah. My apologies. But it is truly a much nicer-"

"I do not care," out the corner of her eye Selina noticed some of the Maidens stiffen when she interrupted Druella. She paid them little mind as she continued to speak, "And secondly, I'd like to ask you this, Druella; What if Pran says no?"

"Hmm? What do you mean?"

"Say you come to Pran. You tell them the same thing you told me. You explained how your lands are prosperous and wonderful. How you can do the same for them...but they still rejected you. They said that becoming Mamono was too much to ask of them. That they wish to remain human, even if that meant they would live in a lesser fashion. What then?"

"Well, I don't understand why they wou-"

"Answer. The question," Selina interrupted again, not wanting to let Druella change the subject.

Feeling the tension in the air, Druella's smile faltered. She pursed her lips while her tail flicked up behind her. One hand idly started pulling at her hair as she finally answered, "I suppose, we would let them be. Though, I would at least offer them non-aggression and trade agreements. Even if they won't join us, I'd like them to have good relations with us."

"And should they say yes, but require you to not include any corrupting products with that trade?"

"Hmm, well...that should be fine. But I would still offer every now then to help improve their lots in life."

"So, you would not leave them alone?"

"I would! I would! But...well...I just wouldn't want to leave them without a way to improve their lives. It wouldn't feel right."

"So, when you attacked the trade caravans carrying food to Lescatie? You did that because it didn't 'feel right' to not do it?"

For the first time since the two had met Druella seemed to be caught off guard. She let go of her hair while her eyes narrowed at Selina. She tilted her head to the side as she said, "That is a rather damning accusation. Though, personally, I would call it wild speculation at best. Wherever did you hear such a thing?"

"The Goddess of War, Ares," Druella's eyes twitched as Selina stated who had told her. The Huntress pressed on with her point, "According to her, there were numerous caravans that were bringing food and supplies to Lescatie while it was in dire straits. However, said caravans were almost always intercepted by Mamono on the way to the nation. This was unusual, as Mamono tended to not attack such targets unless they had been ordered to do so by a higher power. And this lack of resources is one of the primary contributors to the problems of the nation. Which is rather interesting considering this happened just before your attack."

Druella tapped her fingers against her chin as she considered Selina's words. Eventually, she responded by saying, "I see. Far be it from me to disagree with a Goddess of War, but I can assure you that I had nothing to do with those events. And, even if I did, then it was only because I knew that the food would not go to the people. The nobles would hoard it for themselves while everyone else starves."

"A fair point. Then, allow me to ask this; You have Mamono who can sneak into a nation completely undetected, correct?"

"...Yes. There are Mamono like that. The Kunoichi's and Dhampirs are good examples."

"And, in this hypothetical scenario where you were responsible for the attacks on caravans, you would have the supplies in your possession. What was preventing you from having these Mamono infiltrate Lescatie and give these supplies out to people yourselves? If they were ever caught, they could just corrupt whoever discovered them and take them to you."

"But then the nobles would've gone after those with the supplies."

"Then either bring them with you, or have them guarded by your Mamono. Again, they could infiltrate Lescatie with the chances of ever being caught being slim to none. Unless, your Mamono are not that capable?"

Druella took in a deep breath, then let it out as a defeated sigh. She put her elbow on the table and leaned her head into her hand, "I understand what you're talking about. And, as I can tell you won't let this go easily, I will say that I did have a hand in the events. But my actions were meant to help. Any and all supplies were returned to the people after the liberation was over."

Selina chuckled, "Liberation, hmm? I believe conquest would be a better way to describe it. And I hope I do not have to say what will happen should you attempt to do something similar to Pran? After you promise me that you will not attempt to invade the town. In writing, please."

"But don't you think-"

"They would be happier if you intervened with their lives? Hmm," Selina grabbed her cane and used the head to pull her Parfait to her. Her gloved hand reached into the glass and pulled out a strawberry. She placed it on the table and took a knife out of one of her pockets. She held the strawberry up with her left hand while using her right to hold the knife. She took a few moments to carve into the bright red fruit, examined her handiwork, then nodded and turned the fruit over in her hand so Druella could see it.

The strawberry had two holes for eyes, a triangular hole for a nose, and a long curved smile near the bottom. She tilted it in her hand as she said, "This certainly looks happier now, doesn't it?"

----------------------------------------

"And...there...we...go," Matilda smiled as she finished drawing in the dirt. She pushed herself up and tapped the stick she was holding on the image, "This is how I see my soul."

Alameria, Mimil, and Eva all leaned over in their seats to see Matilda's drawing. Which was the image of a hand-sized sphere surrounded on all sides by even stranger drawings. The images were horizontal lines that had eight long vertical lines coming out the bottom along most of the line. However, at the right most ends of the lines were three vertical lines that went above and below the lines. Matilda put her stick at the center of the sphere and started drawing a heart, "And it essentially forms a barrier around my heart. Like this."

Mimil tilts her head to the side, her floppy witch's hat falling to the left side of her head without falling off. Squinting her eyes she looked between Matilda and the picture on the ground, "But how does having those thingies around your soul stop you from feeling really good? Or keep Auntie Eva's barrier from affecting you?"

"Well, dear little Mimil, these lines here are special Runes," Matilda tapped her stick on one of the "Runes", "And these, in particular, offer me an immense amount of protection. Though, they are only the first line of defense. The true thing that keeps me safe is-"

"Love?" all three Mamono preempted Matilda. The Living Doll nodded which prompted Alameria to ask, "And, that love...does it have anything to do with the person you said you met?"

"Indeed. In fact, it has everything to do with her."

"Her?!" the gathered Mamono were completely shocked by Matilda's admission. Eva narrowed her eyes at the Doll and asked, "Do you mean that...Hunter you came with?"

All four girls turned to look over at Selina and Druella. The White Lilim seemed to have returned to her questioning, once again asking Selina personal questions. However, Selina would either ignore those or move the conversation back the Pran. Matilda smiled wistfully as she shook her head, "Not exactly, no. It is true that the person who helped me is connected to the Good Hunter. But it is not the Good Hunter herself. The one I speak of is another Doll, like me, named Eve."

"Hunter Albion has a Living Doll with her?" Alameria sounded even more confused, "But, when? And how is she not corrupted?"

"Hmm, I wouldn't call Eve a 'Living Doll' in the same way I am one. She's...different."

"Different how?" Eva asked, curiosity clear in her voice.

"She's an adult for one thing."

"All grown up?" Mimil said while shaking her head, "But who would create a Living Doll like that? They're supposed to all cute and sweet forever!"

"I am not sure. I have not been told the circumstances behind her creation. But what I do know is this. The love she shares with the Good Hunter is the source of my new life. For that love was so beautiful and powerful, that it gave me a new chance at life. Or, to use a term I'm sure you're all familiar with, I have found my Onee-chan," Matilda put a hand over her heart while sighing happily.

"A big sister?!" Mimil gasped, scooting closer to Matilda and grabbing onto her left arm, "You mean like me and Merse and Mary and Sasha and Franny and Primmy?!"

The young witch was almost vibrating in place, a wide and excited grin on her face. Matilda smiled and nodded while placing a hand on the girl's own, "In a way. Though, the way I feel about her is somewhat similar to how you feel about Elt."

"Hmm?" Mimil tilted her head to the side, "But you said Eve is a woman. She doesn't have anything to put into your cunny to give you give yummy Spirit Energy."

Matilda shook her head, "No, no. We do not love each other in that way."

"But then...how?" Eva asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Hmm, allow me to ask you all this question; Do you trust your husbands to always be there for you? To comfort you when you are sad? To be there whenever you need to feel their warmth against your body?"

"To stroke your head and praise you when you've been a good girl," Mimil added as she turned to look at Elt.

"To accept you for who you are, no matter who you were in the past," Eva looked toward the sky as she spoke.

"To stand by your side even when you find that your allegiance lies with your sworn enemies," Alameria placed a hand over her chest when as she spoke.

All three Mamono let out happy sighs, their cheeks blushing as they thought of their loved ones. Matilda continued once they all looked toward her, "Precisely. That is the love that I feel. Though, it is one that doesn't need to be reciprocated sexually. It simply is."

Mimil and Alameria both went silent as they tried to process Matilda's words. Eva, however, was frowning in contemplation. She clicked her tongue as she spoke, "If that is true, then wouldn't that mean you can use extremely powerful magic? The that, usually, can only be used by powerful Mamono?"

"In theory, but I'm not sure. I have been so changed by my Onee-chan, that using such things may be beyond me. Which is why I wished to speak with you, Eva," Matilda got onto her knees and turned to face the Dark Strategist. As Eva looked at her with confusion, Matilda lowered her head and spoke clearly, "Eva, I humbly request that you take me as your student."

Alameria shouted in surprise while Mimil gasped in awe. Both turned from Matilda to Eva to see the Dark Strategist's reaction. Eva didn't respond at first, staring down at Matilda's bowed head with a inquisitive expression on her face. After a few moments, she finally said, "May I ask why you are asking me this?"

"The Good Hunter's ultimate goal here is not one of conquest nor destruction. It is one of understand and peace. And her mission is my mission. Thus, while she attempts to understand through words, I would like to understand through learning. I wish to learn and understand the magic of the Mamono, so that I may further the Good Hunter's goals in my own way. And who better to learn from, then the premier Dark Strategist of the forming Dark Ice Flower," Matilda lifted her head up and stared at Eva with a confident glint in her eyes,

Eva went silent again. Her lips were pursed as she hummed in thought. Matilda saw the woman's eyes shine a bright purple for but a moment. The next second, something grabbed hold of her soul. It didn't feel like it was gripping it hard nor trying to harm her. But more like it was examining her. As if it was trying to find even a hint of deceit or lies. But she didn't let the feeling show on her face. She kept staring straight into Eva's eyes without a hint of fear. After what felt like hours, Eva finally spoke, "First, tell me this, Matilda; Why did the Mirror of Depravity shatter upon seeing Hunter Albion? How was she able to do what she did when she entered the throne room?"

Matilda fought the urge to frown. She had expected this question, but the problem was she wasn't sure how to answer those questions. She had to avoid being too deceitful lest Eva see it in her soul. She had no doubt the runes were keeping the Alp from seeing everything about her current emotional state. But that could only do so much against focused scrutiny like this. At the same time, she couldn't be too truthful either. If they knew the full truth about what the Huntress was then...

Mentally calming herself by remembering Eve's cool embrace, she spoke clearly to Eva, "To answer the second question, it is simply an external application of the Huntress' nature. Her soul naturally absorbs and destroys any and all Mana that enters her body. However, through focus and concentration, she can direct parts of her soul outward into the palm of her hand."

"Thus allowing her to absorb Mana in her immediate environment," Eva nodded in understanding, "Yes...that would explain how she was able to destroy my Demon Boxes. They were sucked into her soul and destroyed."

"And it's not limited to only Mamono Mana," Alameria shivered, "I still remember how it felt to be within the path of that vortex. I could feel the Mana in the air getting thinner by the second."

"Yeah! I did too," Mimil wraps her arms around herself as she shivers, "I started to feel really cold, couldn't breathe, and my lungs felt really really empty. And not in the good way like when I'm having fun with Elt Onii-chan. But in a really bad way that still sends scary shivers up my spine."

"I'll make a note of it. And see if there's a way we can deal with it," Matilda flinched, but only because she knew Eva wasn't looking at her at that moment. Eva turned back to Matilda and spoke clearly, "And the Mirror?"

"That...is very simple, Eva," Matilda swallowed to remove the dryness from her mouth as she answered, "The Mirror is meant to show someone their 'Truest Self', which is usually a Mamono. It is meant to reflect what they are meant to be then turn them into that form. If it did not work on the Good Hunter, there can only be one reason why; Because she is already living as her 'Truest Self'."

Eva remained silent as she stared at Matilda. Seconds turned into minutes as Matilda waited to hear Eva's answer to her first question. Neither the Dark Strategist nor Matilda dared to move as the former examined the latter. Finally, after what felt like an hour, Eva's lips curled into a smile. She reached down and took Matilda's hands in her own. Matilda felt the feeling on her soul leave her and knew she was home free. Eva beamed at Matilda and flapped her wings as she said, "Alright, Matilda. I'd be happy to take you as a student. Though, I hope you don't mind sharing. I have quite a few Mamono looking to join the Dark Ice Flower."

Matilda answered Eva's smile with one of her own, squeezing the Mamono's hands as well, "Of course not. I look forward to-"

"Enough!"

The sound of a blades clashing caught everyone's attention. Everyone stopped what they were doing and turned to see the source of the sound. Which turned out to be...

"Oh no, Vermut!" Eva let Matilda go and stood up in shock.

Matilda sighed and shook her head, "I was hoping this wouldn't happen. But, I suppose it was inevitable." She stood up and dusted the grass off her dress while everyone moved to intervene with Koga and Vermut.

Specifically, how the two were clashing blades right this second.

----------------------------------------

"I have had enough of you," Koga said through grit teeth, pushing his katana against Vermut's broadsword. Sparks flew from their clashing weapons as the two locked eyes within the clash. Koga continued to speak, his voice filled with bile, "Every second you stay near me, my patience wears that much thinner. Something I have made known to you time and time again. Yet, you remain within my breathing space."

Koga pushed harder against Vermut's weapon, "But, above all that, you dared to attempt to kiss me! I would sooner die than have your tainted lips anywhere near me! I shall make you pay for your insolence, you tainted failure of a warrior!"

The sincerity of Koga's words could not be understated. Anyone who was listening could tell that every thing he said was entirely on purpose. Yet Vermut's reaction was to squeal in delight. Her body shook as she rubbed her thighs together, somehow keeping her balance and matching Koga's strength. Her eyes fluttered while drool fell from the side of her mouth, "Oooohhh~ yes!~ I am a failure of a warrior.~ I couldn't see my lady's true feelings until she turned into a Mamono.~ I am constantly falling behind the others in training and skill!~ And you...you are the first to understand that!~"

She put a surprising amount of force behind her sword, pushing her face close enough that Koga could smell the citrus scent of her perfume. She was panting like a wild dog yet still managed to speak in complete sentences, "That's it! I'm certain now! You're him! You're the man of my dreams! Please, marry me!~ Marry this worthless warrior, and see if at least my body can be of worth to you!~"

Koga dry heaved in response, "Disgusting! Out of my sight!"

He put enough power behind his blade to break the lock the two had. With his weapon free, he swiped at Vermut with a swift, horizontal slash. The Mamono lifted up one of her wings, the scales perfectly suited to withstand the oncoming attack. Koga's sword struck and sparked against the steel-like scales while the force of the wind caused Vermut's skirt to fly up. However, before she could try to flaunt her undercarriage, the sound of a whinny coming from her left took her attention. Before she could react, Nobu had run up to her and turned around with his hind legs ready to kick out at her. She brought her sword up to block as the twin flaming skeletal hooves shot out. Even though her weapon took the brunt of the blow, the force still drove the air from her lungs and launched her off her feet. She landed a few paces away and quickly recovered while holding her broadsword in both hands. Nobu had turned around and was now on Koga's left. Air left his nose as she snorted and stomped his front left leg into the earth.

As the two warriors glared at each other, Koga with fury and Vermut with longing, they soon became aware of the sound of people rushing toward them. Matilda arrived at Koga's side while the Fallen Maidens, Alameria, and Eva all made it to Vermut. Matilda stood by Koga with one hand on his leg while the Mamono all gathered around Vermut while keeping her in the center. Wilmarina, Merse, and Primera had their hands on their weapons, ready in case they had to fight. Alameria, Eva, and Sasha were busy finding out what had happened from Vermut. Mimil and Franscica were making sure that Elt was at the back of the formation, as far away from the battle as possible.

Neither party dared move nor make a sound. Koga kept a firm grip on his weapon while Nobu continued to snort and paw at the ground. His head hung low, as if he was prepared to charge right into the gathered Mamono and run them down. Matilda was idly wondering if she should try to defuse the situation, but decided against it. She doubted anything she could say would be of help here. Instead, she focused on keeping her hand on Koga's leg to prevent him from doing something brash.

And, soon enough, two people arrived that made the tension in the air skyrocket. Selina and Druella. Selina stepped in front of Koga while Druella went to the gathered Mamono. Selina had her eyes locked on Koga and said clearly, "What happened?"

"Good Hunter," Koga calm slightly but didn't sheathe his blade, "That...That monster tried to kiss me against my will. Thus I struck out at her."

"And you were the first to strike?"

"...Yes. I am sorry," Koga admitted, shame filling him as he realized his mistake.

"Hmm...Matilda? What do you think?" Selina asked the Living Doll. She knelt down and leaned in so the two could whisper to each other.

Matilda sighed, "Unfortunately, Koga has given our foes an edge here. I do not blame him for striking back against Vermut Rosnair when she tried to kiss him. That's only natural considering the circumstances. However, we are dealing with the Mamono. In their eyes, a kiss would be something small and insignificant. Not worth attacking someone over. My advice would be make it clear that, even if they are not offended, you and Koga are. Threaten to leave if you have to. That's the main thing that Druella wouldn't want."

Selina nodded then stood up straight. She turned around just as Druella did. The two walked forward until they were an arms length away from each other. Druella crossed her arms under her chest while smiling warmly at the Huntress, "Hunter Albion. It seems dear Koga had an altercation with Ms. Rosnair."

"Indeed. A situation brought on by her," Selina waved a hand at the Mamono standing behind Druella.

"It was only a kiss. Nothing to get upset over. And certainly not something to attack another for," Druella waved a had dismissively.

Selina narrowed her eyes, "For you, perhaps. But Koga clearly did not like even the suggestion. And in my eyes, trying to forcibly kiss anyone would warrant such a reaction."

Druella raised an eyebrow, "Are you implying that Koga possibly injuring one of my friends in response to a kiss isn't worthy of concern?"

"Are you implying that her attempt that forcing Koga to do something he didn't want to isn't worthy of concern?" Selina responded without missing a beat.

The two went silent as they stared at each other. Neither seemed willing to back down and the tension was only rising higher and higher as they did. Nobu had stopped pawing the ground, but he was still snorting. The Fallen Maidens were all ready in case things went wrong. Koga still had his sword out and was sizing up Druella. Matilda was staring at the confrontation, silently praying that it didn't come to blows.

Eventually, Selina turned away from Druella, "Fine then. If you will not respect my comrade's autonomy, then I will give you no more respect. Koga! Matilda! We are leaving this place."

Before Selina could even take a step away, Druella held out a hand and shouted, "Wait! Wait! Please...wait."

Selina stopped and turned to look at Druella. The White Lilim swallowed some of her pride and said, "Alright. How about we compromise? You say what you want and I'll say what I want. Is that fine?"

"It is not up to me. It is up to Koga," everyone's eyes fell on the Ochimusha.

Scoffing, Koga stood up straight and spoke clearly, "I will be satisfied with only one thing. An apology. Right here, right now, in front of everyone. It must delivered sincerely and by the monster that has offended me. Vermut Rosnair, I believe her name was."

Druella turned to address the succubus in question, but Vermut had already thrown her sword down and had shot over to where Koga was. The Knight was on all fours with her head touching the ground as she said, "I beg for your forgiveness, Koga! Please, accept the apology of this worthless Knight who is only good to lick your-"

"That is enough! Away with you!" Koga growled, turning his head away and sheathing his sword. Vermut let out a happy sigh as she glided back to the rest of the Mamono.

Selina blinked in clear confusion. She wanted to ask about what was wrong with the woman, but the atmosphere didn't feel right for it. Instead, she looked at the smiling Druella and rolled her eyes, "Yes, yes. We have gotten our part. So, what do you wish of us? It cannot be something too outlandish."

"Nothing of the sort," Druella waved her hands dismissively through the air, "After all, there is but one thing I would wish of you, Hunter Albion."

"And that is?"

Druella clapped her hands together, "To stay in Lescatie, for at least five days."

Selina opened her mouth to retort but Druella preempted her, "Hold on. Allow me to explain. I understand that our ways may seem...strange to you. But I honestly believe that is only because you haven't seen the full beauty of our land and its people. And if you were to leave now, then that would be such a wasted opportunity. Thus, I wish for you to remain here for at least five days. But rest assured, you may leave earlier or later if you so wish. Simply come speak to me before your departure. And, if that isn't enough, then allow me to promise this; If, by the end of your stay, you are still not convinced that Pran would be better off with the Mamono, then I will call off the invasion. And for as long as you are here, we will not make any aggressive moves on Pran. I swear this to you."

Druella bowed to Selina at the end of her speech. At first, Selina wanted to deny the Mamono. She wanted to get this over with and be back home with her children as quickly as possible. However, as she considered Druella's words, she began to understand something.

Remaining here would allow her far more advantages then leaving would.

She could give Sasha the bracelet, look into much progress the Mamono have made with their firearms, learn the secrets and strategies of the Mamono, and, most importantly, attempt to bring the Fallen Maidens to her side. Especially the younger ones.

Her eye briefly flicked to Mimil. The sight of the girl's half-naked body was all it took to cement her decision. Turning to fully face Druella, the Huntress walked up to the Lilim and held out her right hand, "That sounds like and adequate deal. Let us shake on it, Druella."

Druella beamed and gently took Selina's hand in hers. The two shook and the deal was set. As the two released each other, Druella clapped her hands again, "Wonderful. With that settled, let me bring you to your quarters. Don't worry about space. We always have enough for...special guests."

----------------------------------------

Everyone was walking through the castle, save Koga who was bringing Nobu around the outside, when the reached the main entrance. As Druella opened the door and Selina stepped through, the two soon froze right on the edge of the main landing. Everyone who came after them did the same. Even Koga and Nobu seemed to lock up in shock at what they were seeing.

That being?

A legion of Shoggoths.

All standing in a line.

Going from the main entrance of the castle all the way into the street.

And they were not the only ones out.

Atop the roofs were countless numbers of strange spider-like women. They had the bodies of young girls that seemed to be fused with the abdomen of spiders. Though the spaces where they were fused were strange holes filled with purple tentacles, while their abdomens were pitch black with red spots along their backs and legs.

Flapping their wings above them were strange women whose bodies were covered in tight black film. Their wings doubled hands, and strange purple smoke flew from every part of their body.

Finally, climbing out of sewer grates and from within nearby water sources, were women that looked similar to squids. Specifically, they had strange squid like creatures covering their womanhood, while the rest of their body was bare. Only their breasts were concealed by the same tendrils that extended from their heads. They didn't necessarily "walk" when they moved. It was more like they "floated" wherever they wanted to go. Which was usually in a spot to observe the people coming out of the castle.

No...no it wasn't to see the "people".

It was to see one "person".

And as Selina stepped out into the open air, all the Abyssal Mamono in attendance moved as one...and began to bow. Whether it be kneeling, curtseying, or bowing at their waists. They all showed respect and deference to the Good Hunter.

And it only got worse when they all spoke in unison. Their voices became one and reverberated off of each other, becoming a cacophony that, nonetheless, could be heard and understood by all.

"These Ones bid you Greetings/Salutations/Welcome, Fair Lady Of The Moon, Mistress of the Tranquil Dream, Companion Of She Who Soothes Those From Beyond The Veil. Should you ever need assistance, we offer ourselves to you."

Everyone in attendance blinked.

Then they all turned to look at Selina.

Selina slowly turned around to face them. Then she shook her head, "The funny thing is...this is the second time this has happened to me...and I'm not as surprised as I was last time."

Then she shrugged.

For that was all she could do.
