24. [S1 FINALE] Kill your God

As Varmora pressed her hand against Ethan’s small chest, the Codex began to shimmer ominously beneath his skin. Ethan’s body jerked as he felt the unbearable pain of the extraction, a scream tearing from his lips, raw and filled with terror.

“Your screams will be our rise, Ethan” Varmora taunted, her voice dripping with malice. “You were never meant to bear the Codex.”

Suddenly, the ground trembled as Lira charged into the scene, her fierce presence commanding attention. With every ounce of super strength she could muster, she unleashed a punch that connected with Varmora’s side with a force that sent shockwaves through the air. Varmora was hurled backward, crashing through several buildings, debris flying as she rolled away, finally coming to a stop.

“And you weren’t meant to touch my boy!” Lira’s voice boomed with a powerful authority that reverberated through the chaos.

The sight of Lira ignited a wave of hope among the fairies, their spirits lifting as they realized Varmora could be challenged. Elara rushed to Ethan’s side, her eyes filled with concern.

“Ethan... Ethan... are you okay?” she asked, gently cradling him in her arms.

Ethan panted, the pain from the extraction beginning to fade but still lingering. “Yes... Yes... Elara...”

Lira knelt beside him, her voice firm yet nurturing. “Easy, Ethan... You okay?”

“Yes... we can stop her... I have an idea,” Ethan replied, determination igniting in his eyes despite the ordeal.

Elara carefully set him down, and both Lira and Elara knelt to match Ethan’s small height.

“I can create a small black hole using the Core of the Dyfost. I need you to lure her to the Core,” Ethan explained, his voice steady and focused.

Lira exchanged a glance with Elara, skepticism flickering in her eyes. “You sure this will work?”

“I am sure. Just bring her to the Core somehow. And Elara, I need Atheria’s cosmic beam to charge the Core,” Ethan urged, his heart racing with resolve.

With a nod of determination, Lira stood tall. “Go to the Core. I’ll handle that fucking God.”

“I’ll bring Atheria here,” Elara added, her tone resolute.

Ethan looked up at Lira, his small face filled with fierce determination. “Lira, make her regret...”

Lira’s expression hardened, a fierce glint in her eyes. “I am born to make my enemy regret.”

And with that declaration, Lira surged forward, charging straight toward the incoming Varmora.

Ethan dashed toward the Core, his heart pounding in his chest. Elara quickly helped the wounded Atheria to her feet, guiding her toward the Core, both of them fueled by the urgency of the moment.

The battlefield erupted into chaos as Lira and Varmora clashed, their powers colliding in a fierce hand-to-hand duel. Each strike echoed like thunder, both combatants evenly matched in strength. Lira, though a normal fairy, was unbreakable and radiated an indomitable spirit, while Varmora, the God of destruction, exhibited raw, overwhelming power.

“I trusted you... all the time!” Lira shouted, landing a solid punch to Varmora’s face, her fist connecting with a satisfying crack.

Varmora retaliated with a violent energy burst from her hand, but Lira nimbly dodged the attack, the energy crackling past her.

“We are Phinixes!” Varmora hissed, her eyes blazing with fury. “You pathetic fairies are meant to trust us!”

Lira’s fists were relentless. “Decna didn’t give birth to a devil. You are the devil!” With another swift punch, she landed a blow to Varmora’s gut, causing the god to stagger slightly.

Varmora quickly regained her footing, a dark fury igniting within her. “You pathetic fairy, how dare you call me a devil!” she spat, gathering energy for another wave attack.

Ethan hurriedly manipulated the Ynerzon flow of the Core, his small hands moving with precision despite the intensity of the moment. The cosmic liquid within the Core shimmered, its immense energy rippling through the air. He knew, with just a few precise adjustments, he could turn this volatile energy into a controlled black hole.

Meanwhile, Elara knelt beside Atheria, helping the wounded fairy to her feet. Her eyes scanned the battlefield, taking in the sight of the other fairies, their bodies battered but their spirits still burning bright.

“Stay strong,” Elara called out to them, her voice carrying across the broken terrain. “Ethan has a plan. We can stop her.”

The words sparked hope among the fairies. They smiled weakly, some managing a nod. Somehow, even amidst their pain, they felt a renewed sense of purpose—an ember of belief that had almost been extinguished reignited by Elara’s promise.

Turning to Atheria, Elara’s voice softened with concern. “Can you walk?”

Atheria nodded, though her voice trembled with exhaustion. “Yes... but what's the plan...?”

“Ethan is creating a small black hole using the Core. He needs your cosmic beam to charge it. Can you do that?”

Atheria’s eyes sparked with resolve. Despite the pain in her body, her love for Ethan drove her forward. “Anything for Ethan.”

Elara guided her toward where Ethan was working. Atheria’s face softened as she saw the young boy, still safe, despite everything. Ethan glanced up at her, his determination clear.

“I’ll save you all. Don’t worry,” Ethan said, his voice filled with sweetness and unshakable determination.

Atheria knelt beside him, a tired but proud smile on her face. “I know. You always save us. Thank you.”

Ethan smiled briefly but his focus remained on the task at hand. “Thank me later if it works. I need you to charge the Core. With a cosmic beam.”

Atheria stood once more, and both Elara and Ethan stepped back. With a wave of her hand, Atheria summoned a cosmic beam, channeling it directly into the Core. The liquid within began to glow a bright, pulsating purple, radiating energy as it charged.

Ethan quickly adjusted the final settings, his heart racing. The Core was ready—its immense power now harnessed into a small, controlled black hole. All he needed was for Lira to bring Varmora closer.

On the battlefield, Lira saw Ethan’s signal. She dodged another one of Varmora’s energy attacks, positioning herself between the enraged god and the Core.

“Because you Phinixes are nothing but monsters disguised as gods!” Lira shouted, her voice cutting through the chaos.

The insult struck a nerve in Varmora, who roared in fury. Her energy-filled punches came faster, each one aimed at Lira with lethal intent. Lira deliberately took the blows, her unbreakable skin absorbing the damage as she strategically moved backward, closer to the Core.

“You’re calling me a monster?” Varmora growled, punching Lira in the face.

Lira staggered backward, closer to the Core. “I trusted you...” she whispered, feeling the sting of betrayal deep in her heart but keeping her resolve steady.

Another punch landed on Lira’s body, but this time, she barely flinched. Varmora’s rage blinded her as she continued to advance. “I am the one saving you all,” she spat, sending another blow into Lira’s chest.

Lira deliberately took the punch, now within striking distance of the Core. Ethan was ready, his hand poised over the lever. Varmora’s confidence surged as she prepared for one final blow.

“You really think you can stop me?” Varmora taunted, lifting her fist.

Lira, with lightning speed, dodged the punch and spun behind Varmora, shoving her hard toward the Core. Varmora stumbled forward, directly over the energy-infused device.

“No... but he can,” Lira said, her voice bold and steady as she nodded toward Ethan.

In one swift motion, Ethan pulled the lever. The Core let out a deep hum, and a small black hole materialized at its center. The vortex expanded rapidly, its gravitational pull latching onto Varmora before she could react. The god’s eyes widened in shock as she felt the inescapable force dragging her toward oblivion.

“What... what is this...?” Varmora’s voice wavered, her confusion turning into panic.

Ethan’s eyes glinted with defiance. “Science. Something you insignificant Phinixes lack.”

The black hole’s pull intensified, and Varmora’s screams echoed across the battlefield as her body began to stretch, the overwhelming force of the black hole spaghettifying her form.

“You really are a savior, Ethan...” Varmora’s voice echoed one last time before she was consumed entirely, her existence erased in an instant.

The Core’s humming grew louder, signaling imminent overload.

“Run! It’s about to explode!” Ethan shouted.

Without hesitation, Lira scooped Ethan into her arms, sprinting away from the Core with all her speed. Elara, helping Atheria, followed closely behind.

And then, with a deafening boom, the Core exploded in a flash of light, sending shockwaves across the battlefield. When the dust settled, the black hole had collapsed, and Varmora was gone—erased from existence.

The battle was won.

As the dust settled and the ruins of Dyfost became still, Lira gently unwrapped Ethan from her protective embrace. The ground beneath them trembled slightly from the aftershock of the explosion, but there was no more threat—Varmora was gone. Lira turned to gaze at the destruction, the landscape changed forever.

"May you rest in Valfala, Phinix," Lira muttered softly, her eyes filled with respect for a fallen adversary.

Ethan, nestled in her arms, looked up at her, his face thoughtful. "I feel bad for her too. She was trying to revive her civilization, but..." His voice trailed off, the weight of the moment pressing down on him.

Lira sighed, her voice carrying the authority and sadness of a commander who had seen too much loss. "Not every Yalzet accomplishes their mission. Some fail. Some die." Her words hung in the air, a sober truth of war.

For a moment, Ethan stayed in her arms, silent. Together they mourned the fallen goddess, whose mission was not born of malice but of desperation. A god who vanished from existence in her final attempt to save what was already lost.

Then, seeing the fairies beginning to gather again, Ethan wriggled out of Lira's arms and ran toward them. They were wounded, battered, but alive. Flora, still glowing faintly from the strain of using her healing powers, was tending to Vyrella’s wounds when she saw Ethan sprinting toward her.

"Ethan!" Flora cried, her voice cracking with relief and overwhelming emotion. She scooped him up in her arms, cradling him close to her heart. "Ohhhh...my baby...Ethan...Ethan..." Her tears flowed freely as she hugged him tighter, checking him over anxiously. "Are... Are you hurt?"

Ethan smiled softly, touched by her worry. "No, just a little scratch." He held up his arm, showing a deep cut.

Flora gasped, her heart racing. "Let me heal it." She pressed her hand gently over the wound, ready to use her powers.

But Ethan pulled back slightly. "No... it's alright. They need your touch more. They're hurt worse than me."

Flora’s eyes softened, full of both love and exhaustion. "They’ll heal. They just need rest. But you... you need to let me take care of you." Her voice was firm but tender as she guided him to sit in her lap.

Ethan hesitated, but Mira spoke up from nearby, her voice tired but full of affection. "We can heal ourselves, Ethan. We’re fairies. Let her do what she needs to."

Atheria chimed in, wincing through her own pain but smiling proudly at him. "Yes, especially after you killed a Phinix. A Phinix, Ethan. Do you even realize what you did?"

Ethan finally relented, settling into Flora’s comforting embrace. As she gently healed his cut, he shrugged with that sweet innocence that always melted their hearts. "What's the big deal? She was a bad one."

Elara knelt nearby, her voice gentle but wise. "No one is truly bad, Ethan. They just have bad intentions. It's their choices that make them dangerous."

Flora, still fussing over him, turned him slightly, her eyes scanning for any other injuries. "Turn around, let me see you properly." She wiped her tears with the back of her hand, overwhelmed with relief as she inspected him.

Ethan, ever the caretaker, reached up and wiped the tears from Flora’s cheek with his small hands. "I’m fine, Flora. Stop crying. We’re all safe now." His voice, so innocent and comforting, sent waves of reassurance through her.

Lira, standing behind them, smiled down at Ethan with gratitude in her eyes. "You saved us all again. I don’t know how we can thank you, but you deserve anything we can give."

Ethan, humble as ever, simply said, "I just want you all."

Those words, so pure and filled with love, touched every fairy. Smiles broke across their faces, some still tear-streaked, and they all felt their hearts swell with even more affection for the boy they loved.

One by one, Ethan went to each of them, wrapping his small arms around them in warm hugs. And they held him close, crying softly as they realized how close they had come to losing him. He, in turn, hugged them as though they were his lifeline, thankful that they had all survived.

Place : Valfala

Btsyna (breathless, voice shaky): Varmora’s no more...

Tyzik (eyes wide): What? What are you saying?

Sheel (scolding, unable to believe it): Btsyna! Watch your mouth. Not everything is a joke!

But Btsyna's usually playful eyes were filled with seriousness. Her voice dropped lower, trembling slightly as she repeated herself.

Btsyna (her voice trembling): No... it’s true. She’s gone... Varmora is gone.

Nemin (whispering): No... No. This can’t be. It's impossible.

Maglyna (her voice growing frantic): Btsyna, this isn’t funny. Just... just tell me it's not true.

But Btsyna could only shake her head, her eyes filled with sorrow, her voice barely a whisper now.

Btsyna (weakly): It’s true...

The realization slammed into Tyzik like a blow to the chest. His eyes darted between the others, seeking any sign of disbelief, hoping for some denial.

Tyzik (desperate, almost shouting): We need to tell Awn! This... this is impossible!

The door burst open, and they tumbled in, their panic palpable.

Mystnus (alarmed as she sees their distressed faces): What happened? Why are you all—

Sheel cut her off, her voice thick with sorrow and disbelief.

Sheel (breathless, eyes wide with disbelief): Awn... Varmora’s dead.

Urmi ( in pure disbelief): Sheel... what are you saying? This is impossible. She can't die!

Mystnus (voice trembling): This can’t be real. Are you sure?

Btsyna (voice quivering): I saw it myself.

Urmi : Awn... Awn!

But Awn stood as still as a statue, unmoved by the news that had shattered the others. Her gaze remained locked on the sky, her posture unflinching, regal, almost too calm. It was as though she had expected this.

Awn (her voice calm, resolute): I knew.

The room went silent. The others exchanged confused, stunned glances. Awn didn’t move, didn’t break her gaze from the clear sky that stretched endlessly outside the window.

Mystnus (still in shock, her voice barely a whisper): What?. Who could have done this?

There was a tense pause. Awn finally turned around, her eyes sharp, focused. Her lips parted, and she spoke two words that pierced through the tension like a blade:

Awn (with certainty, eyes flashing): Decna’s child.
