Early Birds

The sun was rising. The horizon showed a beautiful blend of red, orange, and blue. The sky was absolutely stunning.

She adored this. The peacefulness of being on her own, feeling smaller than the greatness of the world.

Crimson, who was on the rooftops, is then suddenly interrupted when she notices a male figure climbing up.

“I knew I had heard someone sneak up here.” Samuel says while having a good look at her.

She, for some reason, still had her pajamas on. They were dark blue and had white dots everywhere. They did a good job at both hiding and revealing her body at the same time.

Her hair, now untied and a bit messy, was… breathtaking in Samuel’s eyes.

He himself wore plain black, as always.

“Why are you up this early in the morning?” is her question. Everyone else was asleep, especially Deck.

“I’m a bit anxious about all this.” He approaches her, sitting right to her side. “It reminds me of my last big job.”

“Oh?”

An internal debate proceeds within Samuel as he ponders whether or not he should talk about that day but after a few seconds, he speaks. “It was a plane heist.”

Catching her interest, he continues. “J tricked me and a small group of thugs into hijacking a cargo full of cocoa.”

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

“...cocoa?”

“She said it was coke.”

The woman in pajamas snorts. “You can’t be serious.”

“Dead serious.” He says with a grin. “And surprise surprise, we’re still alive.”

“And what do you mean by that?” She mimics his smirk while resting her head on her fist.

“Eh… I don’t know…” He says, somewhat teasing her on whether he should spill the beans or not

“Tell me!”

“Ok, ok. We sorta nosedived into the wall of a canyon.”

Her shocked expression… in fact, her everything heavily contrasted with what she displayed the first time he met her. It puts a good taste in his mouth.

He continues. “Turns out J isn’t as good of a pilot as I thought. I’ll just leave it at that.”

The redhead looks forward with a faint smile. “Ah…” The smile then slowly goes away but she doesn’t keep it that way for long. “It sure sounds nice.”

Finding this mood shift odd but choosing against pointing it out, he nods with a hum and also faces forward.

The sun was slowly ascending but buildings in the further distance still blocked it from coming into view.

The man in black couldn’t help but be intrigued by this woman. She was attractive, sure, not a big deal, but something about her aura drew him closer to her and he couldn’t explain why. He just felt good talking to her.

Or rather, he felt good seeing her smile.

A few minutes of this somewhat comfortable silence go by before Samuel clears his throat. “Why are you up here?”

“I like the view.” She answers almost immediately.

“It is nice.” The young adult’s cheeks turn a tad red at the thought of what he had to say. “Like you.”

He doesn’t look at her but he can feel her staring him down with a surprised expression. He definitely didn’t have the nerve to look her in the eye after saying that.

She chuckles. “I guess you’re nice too.”
