“PUSH!” I urgently yelled. “PUSH!”
“I… I can’t!” Sapphy replied with a strained voice. “Not without Master here…”
“Just push! He’s almost here!”
“Ughhh!” Sapphy grunted and groaned until she managed to give birth to a baby girl. The room was a mess, and there were stains of fluid… and non-fluid matters… all over the sheets. After I saw the baby girl take her first breath in this world, I began to cast <
I sighed in relief knowing that the birth went well. Considering my entire experience as a midwife consisted of 2 live births and a couple of books I stole from the Galahad library, I thought I did pretty well. Despite my uncertainties, there was never any question whether or not I would help. After all, Sapphy was there to guide me to safe births when I had Aubrey and Braxton. My pride as a woman and a mother would be wounded if I couldn’t do the same for her.
“You did great, Sapphy! You’re now the mother of a baby girl!” I excitedly congratulated her as I handed her a baby girl who cried vigorously.
Her excitement definitely dimmed a bit as she weakly smiled at the news.
“Will… will Master be disappointed that I birthed a girl?” She meekly asked.
“Don’t be ridiculous. You know Rummy doesn’t give a shit about any of that! He’s not one of those rotten noble men- you really should know that by now!”
My beloved husband looked at Aubrey with the same eyes he did Braxton. One of the many reasons why I love him is how unpolluted his mind was. The same poison that turned Tali’s brothers into entitled asshats with over-inflated views of themselves was nowhere to be found in Rummy’s mind. And I was truly blessed to be able to raise children with a partner of that mindset.
Despite my assurances, she remained pensive as she held her daughter.
I sighed a bit as I continued. “Sapphy, you’re not a slave anymore! You’re a mother to this beautiful girl. You are a part of this harem family. So stop this line of thinking!”
“But…”

I furrowed my brows and glared deeply into her eyes. “I will NOT let our daughter grow up as a sex slave! She will live for herself! But to do that, she needs to see you live for yourself first!”
I could see her new self struggling against her old self. The work Rummy and I have done in the past 9 months clearly added up. But it was not easy to escape from the shadows of her abusive past and years of abusive mental programming. But as long as we keep the pressure up and press her whenever she slipped back into that slave mindset, I’m confident that this baby girl would grow up with a self-reliant mother.
“But first, why don’t you close your eyes a bit while we wait for Rummy to come back? I’ll wake you when he gets back from field testing whatever monstrosity he’d finished building last night.”
Sapphy nodded and closed her eyes. The poor girl must’ve been exhausted. Believe me when I say that childbirth takes a lot out of you. I took the baby back into my arms and walked out of the bedroom. After waiting in the living room for a few minutes, I began to wonder if my husband didn’t see the smoke signal I sent out.
As if on cue, Rummy bursted into the room, panting from the sprint. I gave my husband a beaming smile as he power-walked towards me.
“Congratulations, hubby! It’s a girl!”
With zero hesitation, he took the baby from me and gently embraced her. Unlike the typical men of his era, he showed none of the expected disappointment of not having a son. With a grateful smile, he looked at his 3rd child as if it were the most precious thing in the world. I’d never get tired of this fatherly smile- even if he were holding a child from another woman. After all, I am the matron of every child in our harem family.
While Rummy was thinking about a name for our 3rd child, I went back inside the bedroom to wake up Sapphy. But decided against it when I saw how peaceful she looked in her slumber. I closed the bedroom door and returned to the living room. My husband was still sitting on the couch, swinging side to side with the baby. After a while, she stopped crying. Wow, it seemed like the tricks that worked on Aubrey and Braxton worked on her as well.
Rummy looked at me with a proud smirk on his face and arms out. “Am I gonna be a great father, or what?”
I choked back a laugh. “Have you named our third child yet?”
“Yeah, I thought about it on the way back. It’s Chloe. Our daughter’s name is Chloe.” He replied as he tenderly looked at her serene face.
“Chloe? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that name before. Very unorthodox of you, again.”
He shrugged. “Maybe it’s these memories in my head. Either way, I don’t plan on living under Imperial orthodoxy, so why should my children be constrained by that nonsense?”
“Fair enough.” I nodded in agreement. “Should we let Sapphy sleep?”
“Yup. But let’s hang out in the bedroom. I want her to wake up to me and our daughter.”
Getting Sapphy to become her own person was a tough task, so even simple gestures of acceptance should go a long way. Despite his cold and mechanical approach in life, my husband could be a sensitive soul if he actually bothered to try~
