Chapter 10

“Have you ever been to the Voucan Kingdom?”

His father looked surprised at him.

“Do you plan on going there?”

“Yes.”

“Well, I guess you’ll be able to survive. I would have preferred if you had illusion magic and could look less like a dragon humanoid. But there aren’t many dragon hunters there, so you’ll probably be fine.

I’ve been there, yes. It was quite peaceful, but that was more than 20 years ago. So, be careful.”

“Sure, I’ll be careful. Also, do you happen to know any way except magic to disguise me?”

“Well, you get more control over your humanoid form as you get older. But for complete control, you need to at least become an elder.”

“Hmm, ok…”

“Oh, one more thing. I’d recommend you get an alias.”

“I’ll figure one out.”

The day after, Ithil headed to the Voucan Kingdom.

--------------------

Ithil’s flying had become much more stable than before and he no more troubles with wobbly flying or crushing mountains. He landed in the forest on the cliff he had been to before. He could still see the cracks he made a couple of days ago.

He transform to his humanoid form before he crushed any trees and landed nimbly.

The thick tree canopies blocked out all of the summer light as he walked through the forest. Everywhere he went, all other animals would stay away from him. They could sense the danger.

Tree rots were everywhere, making it a hassle to walk quickly. Ithil didn’t have anywhere to be, but he still wanted to get there as fast as possible.

It didn’t take long for the trees to get thinner and he was eventually out. The Voucan Kingdom was a quite small kingdom. It was a bunch of smaller villages and a capital.

Ithil was unsure if he should visit the capital, and decided to go to a nearby village first. The village in question was called Rockyhill. Rockyhill was for some reason nowhere near anything rocky, but there were hills nearby.

Ithil walked over one of the hills and spotted the village. It was surrounded by wooden walls and seemed to house a bit over a hundred people. It was quite busy, and small shapes were scurrying from house to house.

He walked up to the wall entrance. There were two guards there. The first one was a human and stood at the front. The second guard was some red lizard-type humanoid and was standing a little bit further back.

There were many intelligent creatures, too many to count. But they were separated into groups.

Humanoids were humans and other species that were similar to humans but with other features. Those features were often from some other unintelligent species. Ithil currently looked like a humanoid with features from a lizard-like species, the second guard as well.

Elves were like human but with a higher magic affinity and longer lifetime. Higher elves also had pointier ears than humans. There were many types of elves, and the less powerful species were basically inseparable from ordinary humans. Elves were quite uncommon to find due to mostly living remotely in forests.

Dwarfs were shorter humans that lived in mountains, were they spent their lives mining. There were also many different types of dwarfs, but with little differences between them.

Then there were also intelligent beasts that belonged to the other section. Like, for example, dragons.

The first guard walked up to Ithil.

“Do you wish to enter the village?”

“Yes.”

“Is it your first time?”

“Yes.”

“Well then I’d like to recommend the Sparrow Inn, really nice place. Oh and also, good luck in Rockyhill!”

“Sure.”

Ithil walked past the guards with a smile on his face.

‘It seems that they think I’m just an ordinary lizard-type humanoid. I guess it would take someone with a lot of experience to figure out that I’m a dragon. That makes things much easier for me.’

He walked along the busy streets, intending to explore the city. He had been lent some money by his father to make things easier. His father had said it was just a little, but it was actually quite a lot for commoners.

There was actually a common monetary system for the whole world. Ithil was quite shocked at how people managed to do it, but he guessed it had something to do with magic. Everything amazing had to do with magic, and he just had to be born without it.

There was copper coins, silver coins and gold coins. Simple. One silver is 1000 copper and one gold is 1000 silver.

(and for you readers, one silver is about 100 dollars just to make it easy)

Ithil’s father had lent him 1000 silver.

‘What should I even do with this much…? I guess I’ll hold on to it, I do like saving.’

The day went by quickly as he visited different shops throughout the city. He found nothing interesting, it was only things that he didn’t need or things that would be difficult to bring on his journeys while in dragon form.

He was really sad that he didn’t have space magic. If he did, he could’ve just put stuff in a separate dimension.

He did try some of the food, but it was mediocre.

He decided to sleep in the forest since he didn’t need a bed and didn’t like wasting money. He didn’t sleep in his dragon form, in case someone accidentally stumbled upon him.

The next day he was ready to check out the Adventurer’s Guild.
