Chapter 4: New Skills and Progress

Alyssa POV

...

"Now then, with that traitor gone we shall begin your training. Pope Luther, please lead the heroes to the training ground and guide them to their proper roles." (King)

"Of course, your majesty." he turns towards the group "Well then, please follow me. I will brief you all on what this entails."

Everyone followed the Pope, and after a 15 minute walk of almost silence they arrived to their destination: the Training Center.

"Ok then, we're here. I'm sorry it took us so long, but we did not prepare the necessary amount of carriages. We have only gotten around 10 heroes at a time when you were summoned in the past. We did not expect almost 30 people, so putting some of you n the carriages would be unfair." (Pope)

Everyone agreed to this. They would end up fighting amongst themselves if some were given special treatment.

"Alright. We'll be going in now, and I'm sure that you all are aware of your roles. The cards you were given are special. They are infused with magic from Illia herself to see into your souls and project your desires as well as the specific titles or blessings you received. Those who are Healers, please follow me as I will personally train you all.

Warriors or those with the Leader/Hero roles please follow Mr. Gensung, the knight captain of the Atrion army.

Mages, please follow Ms. Lacey, the commander of the top magic academy in the continent.

Assassins, please follow Mr. Grenth, the head of the assassin's guild." (Pope)

Everyone splits off into their designated positions.

I guess I'm following this guy... How could a Pope just leave someone to die like that? How could Lucas just be cast aside like that... I understand that everyone didn't like him, but to just kill him off. To send him to his death! How could they?!.

People are disgusting... Lucas was the only one I consider human anymore. He may not have had the best looks, but he was sweet and kind, and even though he was in a great deal of pain, hid the secret beatings he got because of me and slowly tried to avoid me and quietly let me know.

He didn't want to get me involved, and knew I would be better off without him... And now that one person who showed promise is gone, I don't know.

Alyssa had been in a deep thought for a few minutes. She walked unconsciously and just followed the group. When it came time for them to start their practice of spells she simply walked to the side. There was a bench against the wall, and she took advantage of it.

After sitting down, the Pope looked towards her. Thoughts such as 'What is she doing over there?' were clearly on his mind until he realized that she was the one who stood up for the man.

His gaze became cold, as if looking towards a grave sinner.

So that's it, huh? He's looking at me just like the others looked at Lucas. I guess I'm being criticized for trying to save him. The only decent one amongst the so called 'heroes'. But that doesn't matter to me...

I can only hope Lucas somehow makes it out. I'm sure he will, he's dealt with much worse after all... Getting thrown off a... bridge.. should be.... nothing.......

Alyssa quietly sobbed. Most of the healers were aware, since they shared one giant training room together, but everyone ignored her. Most were disgusted by how she stood up for what they considered 'a piece of trash', but others just simply ignored her - understanding that she was a very kind and soft-hearted person.

Alyssa was left alone to sob for the rest of the training session until it ended in the evening and her friend Jessica walked up to her.

"Alyssa..." (Jess)

"I... don't want to hear it. You may not have raised your hand but you didn't protect him either." (Alyssa)

Shooting knives out her eyes, she glared at Jess. Jess took a step back almost unable to confront her friend, but she pushed on and said what was on her mind.

"You know I couldn't... We would just be thrown with him. With Josh having the strongest stats out of all of us, and we having average we could easily have been disposed of. You know that too. Ms. Ream knew that as well. I saw you guys make eye contact back there.." (Jess)

"I just can't believe that happened... Being summoned to another world was hard enough to take in, and now the only person I considered a human being was killed off by majority rule in front of my eyes... No.. he might still be... *hic*" (Alyssa)

Tears slowly welled up in her eyes. Her face was red and swollen from all the crying, and it's a miracle that there is even a drop of water left to cry out.

"Alyss... you know very well that he i-" (Jess)

"NO! I WON'T ACCEPT THAT!!!.." (Alyssa)

With a sudden shout, Jess was startled. She knew that Alyssa was clearly not taking the situation well. She decided that it would be best for her to lead Alyssa to their room and let her mourn for the rest of the day and maybe tomorrow if she needs it.

"Alright Alyss.. Come with me and I'll show you where we are staying. You can lay in bed and think things through for a while. " (Jess)

Alyssa didn't respond with words. She simply took her time and slumped up. She threw a quick look at Jess, then gazed at the floor. After a minute or so of standing around, she got up completely and walked away with Jessica.

Holy crap... Or... Unholy crap?

Anyway, this is a huge surprise... My stats were leaps and bounds above the others' and I didn't even have to do much except die. Quite convenient if I must say. I won't how strong I actually am when compared to other humans. I don't suppose hitting any rocks or killing any monsters down here would help. For all I know these rocks could be as hard as diamonds or as soft as paper, and the monsters similarly could have scales.

Well, it's time to head off. Master told me to head to the bottom of this dungeon to get to some kind of teleportation rune. Too bad I don't know what floor I'm on, or for that matter how many floors this dungeon even has.

I guess I'll find out when I travel down enough.

Ah, I also don't have a weapon.. Hmm... Oh! I remember master telling me I had some kind of weapon already. Is it near me somewhere?

Lucas looks around the area, but with no success of finding anything worthwhile he gave up his search.

Looks like no. Well, master wouldn't lie to me so I must be missing something..

Maybe it's like in the mangas? If I am able to be summoned to another world, die, then gain powers after meeting a god, then surely I must have some kind of ethereal and magical weapon. It wouldn't hurt to try summoning it (I think).

I should probably sit down and meditate or something to figure out how to summon this thing.

Lucas, with a newfound determination, sits cross-legged on the floor. After concentrating for a minute or so, he starts to feel something.

What is this feeling? It feels almost likely my body is filled with air, but not quite. Maybe this is what is called Magic Power?

Upon further meditation, Lucas discovers that he is able to create magic.

Woah, this is actually pretty cool. So, if I just concentrate on what I want to appear, it appears? Let's try... A dart!

New Skill Learned: Dark Dart

Almost instantly a pitch black dart appears in the air, hovering above his hand.

Ok, that's cool. I get a pop up when I make something, and probably when I use it too. Kind of like a game. Good thing the window doesn't abstract my vision.

I'm sure I can throw the dark dart since I made it, but I wonder if I can propel it forward with the force. Kind of like a jehdeye from my favorite movie. Now then, let's try it!

After around a 1 second delay, the dart disappears.

Skill Used: Dart Dart

Well, it didn't disappear but moved so fast that no human eyes would be able to keep up with it. Only Lucas was able to see it clearly, and he was astonished. He imagined it going as fast as he could make it but didn't think that it would be almost as fast as a bullet.

The dart pierces through the wall, leaving a huge crack.

That.. was... awesome! Unholy crap, I'll have to remember to hold back!

Now that I generally understand how magic works, I should probably get back to trying to find that weapon of mine...

An hour passed with continuous meditating until a new window appeared.

New Soul-bound Item Acquired: Scythe of Death

This looks interesting. I am basically death incarnate, so this doesn't really surprise me, but I am really excited to finally get the weapon. I wonder why I had to meditate to get it though... Maybe to meet the requirements to handle it's power?

Let's test it out and see..

After not even half a second of thinking, a black haze surrounded Lucas' hand. It stretched out quickly and took the shape of a pole. Afterwards, it grew a giant blade on the end in the shape of a scythe, with two smaller blades pointing up and down on the other side of the larger one.

With its sharpness, you could easily cut someone in half. A black aura clouded the area, shrouding everything in the presence of death. This scythe was a part of Lucas, and he was death. Anyone who felt this aura would know that they would not live much longer, but to Lucas he only understood the physical appearances since the spiritual effects did nothing to him being the barer.

This is more like it... I think it's about time to go hunting and hone my skills. I might have all these awesome abilities now, but I still don't know how to use them the most effectively.
