In the Shelton Kingdom, the citizens were terrified. Their food was running low, their water was being poisoned, and their people had caught diseases. Any attempt to send out knights to scrounge for supplies had been futile. For the knights were slaughtered over and over again, no matter how many were sent out. Not a single one ever came back.
Even though a celebration for an upcoming holiday was planned, the people already knew it was an attempt to appease their anger.
That bastard of a king. All he ever did was sit in his throne, eating elegant food, drinking expensive liquor, and sleep in his warm bed.
While the citizens of the kingdom starved, thirsted, and slept on the streets out in the cold snow.
Their kingdom had always snowed, no matter what season or time of day. It was just how it always been. Reminiscing about the past, the people remembered how their situation got to where it is now.
A year ago, the king had received news of an ancient treasure out in the mountains hidden in a cave. Overcome with greed, the king sent an army to retrieve the treasure without thinking whether or not it was a trap set up by the Demonic Alliance; an evil force of all different species of demons and monsters hell bent on doing one thing. Wiping humanity off the face of the earth.
They were tired of being hunted and enslaved by humanity as tools for their own convenience. Of course facing the humans, they were originally powerless. Until one day, their new king was born.
Their original king was defeated by the Shelton Kingdom’s first king and his trusted bodyguards, the Elemental Four. Extremely talented humans with overwhelming strength that swore loyalty to the throne. They were originally nobles of the royal families. Each of the four had an elemental power. Dalton, King of the Sky. Fari, King of Earth. Rowles, King of Flames. And Kai, King of Cold.

Unfortunately, in the battle against the demon king, the first king and Kai sacrificed themselves to ensure the survival of the kingdom. But, the king had no heirs, so his only replacement could be a relative, Gar, the incompetent king.
Because of Gar’s selfishness, the people of the kingdom were taxed heavily, forcing most residents to abandon their homes. They would have left the kingdom, if it weren’t for the fact that the area they lived in was surrounded by powerful demons and monsters.
Hell, the only reason the kingdom has survived this long was because of the remaining Elemental Four, or Elemental Three now.
Thanks to their king’s greed, the people were on their last legs. Sooner or later, the king might forcefully take the children of the kingdom from their parents and force them to train in the military to help him acquire the treasure.
Although it was originally a trap, the kingdom was able to find out that the treasure was no lie. According to rumors, the treasure buried deep within that cave in the mountains is a part of Kai’s legacy.
This explained the king’s urgency to gain the treasure. Even though the area surrounding the cave was taken over by the Demonic Alliance and used as their camp, scouts found out they weren’t able to make it past the cave’s traps and gain the treasure.
All the kingdom had to do now was take over their camp and claim the cave. That way they have unlimited attempts. The only problem is, if the demons and monsters who are inherently more powerful than humans couldn’t make it through the cave, then how could they.
Out of the Elemental Four, Kai, in legend, was said to be the strongest one. Apparently he was the one who contributed the most in the battle against the demon king. With his power to create, shape, and manipulate ice he was seemingly invulnerable. He was also capable of utilizing ice with his physical combat, such as creating weapons and tools for attacking and manipulating the environment for his advantage. And being able to control ice, also allowed him to manipulate and generate the essence of ice such as mist and water.
To be able to attain such power, would make anyone drool. So at first the king ordered the Elemental Three to retrieve it for him. But they refused. Asking them why, the king was only answered with silence.
Since asking them for help failed, the king decided to order an army to go for him. Only using their best troops. However, they were ambushed and only one was able to make it back, after informing the kingdom of their losses he killed himself due to guilt of being the only one to make it out.
With their best troops gone, with the exception of the generals and the Elemental Three, the kingdom was forced to be on the defensive side. Slowly, their supplies started dwindling.
And now, that’s how the kingdom came to the situation it is in now. Everyone was depressed and worried about their futures.
However, there was one family who felt it was their best day. They weren’t worried or anxious about anything. They were only happy for the birth of their new family member.
