Kai, King Of Cold

More than half a year passed by.

Listening to my parents over this period of time, I gradually pieced together things bit by bit.

I was finally able to crawl.

Though I really wish I could walk right now, I know I shouldn’t be in a rush. It’s like they say, you learn to crawl before you walk.

But I learned to appreciate being able to move, so it’s fine.

After learning how to crawl, I discovered a lot of information.

First, my family situation couldn’t be seen as wonderful.

The home is a one story wood and stone house, and there were only three rooms.

The place was a kingdom.

Looking at the scenery from the window, I could see tall stone walls encircling the homes of people as well as my home.

Snow covered the houses and fell on the streets. Looking at the homes of other people, I could see their situation wasn’t any better than ours.

With people sleeping out in the streets and others wearing tattered and torn clothing covered in dirt.

I felt pity for these people, at least I had a roof over my head and decent clothes to wear.

The atmosphere of this little village within the walls could be described as gloomy. The eyes of people passing were desolate and empty.

I wonder what was happening.

After taking one look out the window I was certain of it, this wasn’t Earth. Or maybe it was a different time than what I was living in before.

Men wearing sheathed swords at their waist patrolled the streets, and carriages driven by horses were pulled back and forth. People wore clothing to that of villagers.

Later that day I heard my mother and father mention country names, district names, and various other locations that weren’t in my vocabulary.

This really is a different world.

Perhaps here I can….

Yes, here I can live the life I wanted to. A happy one. One where I don’t have to live a life regretting everything and constantly degrading myself.

A peaceful life with my new family. Yes, that’s all I want, a peaceful life.

This time I won’t let it end like last time.

I’ll take it seriously.

—————————————————————————————————————

Three years past.

At this time I could finally lift my body and walk. I was also beginning to learn this worlds language.

I fist decided to learn what would be important for me to live in this world.

Like the language. If I wanna communicate and interact with others it’s important I learn how to talk and write properly.

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

And since I was still a child and couldn’t do much, I started to search the house for books to help me learn.

I managed to find a book and forced myself to learn the vocabulary. There were times when I was really bored and thought of dropping it, but I new it was vital to learn the language and managed to hang on.

It helped that the book was actually interesting.

“Kai, The King Of Cold”

The book was about one of the Elemental Four, guardians of the kingdom who swore to protect the kingdom till death.

Kai was said to be the most generous of the four. He offered help to citizens who needed it. Stopped by the church and often looked after the orphans. And was generally a nice man who was easy to get along with.

It was recorded that he was raised by a prestigious family, but for unknown reasons, he severed his ties with them and worked for the old king solely. No matter how his family tried to regain his favor, he only treated them coldly.

He had a strong friendship with the old king when they were kids. They played everyday together and went on many adventures.

Tales of him slaughtering beasts and monsters were spread across the land. Only adding more to his reputation.

Using him as their link, his family rose in status and slowly gained more power. So losing him was the same as losing their strength, nevertheless Kai disregarded their restlessness and did as he pleased.

Of course, these tales of him being virtuous and mysterious weren’t the only ones. Yes, Kai held a strength many desired.

Magic.

In this world, magic wasn’t something everyone had access to. Only those in prestigious and powerful families were to likely hold the techniques to cultivating magic.

As for why it was like this, a long time ago a man appeared with unbelievable power. Unfortunately, no one knew his motives. Using his magic he was able to make anything he touched corrode into ashes.

With this strength and a mastery in martial arts, he closed the gaps between him and his foes and corroded the throats of his foes before they were able to react.

Not knowing who he was or where he came from, people gave him a name.

Viduus, King of Death.

Although his motive was unknown, he had to be stopped.

So, Kai himself undertook this mission and went on a journey to hunt for Viduus. It took three months until Kai was finally able to find him.

Kai, who was furious towards Viduus actions, asked him why he did such a thing. However, he was given no answer and was faced with Viduus attacks.

Tales of this battle spread far and wide. Apparently Kai and Viduus were evenly matched, and it wasn’t until Kai trapped Viduus into a corner, that he was able to seal him away.

In the end, no true winner was decided.

But Viduus existence made the people scared. So the people went to the king themselves and ordered a restriction on magic.

The king, facing the worries of the people, banned magic in his kingdom. However, that only brought the rage of the nobles and those of the royal family.

To avoid a civil strife, the king decided to compromise and declared only those with a permit from him had access to magic.

Ever since the king died, this law has slowly withered.

In the battle against the demon king, the king and Kai had sacrificed their lives to protect the kingdom.

The demon king was a demon who birthed into this world after a large accumulation of time. After waiting patiently, the demons and monsters quietly raised the demon king and created seven guards to protect him.

Known as the Atrocious Seven.

With tales of them bringing suffering and fear wherever they went, the world quickly knew of their existence.

Facing the growing strength of the Demon Alliance, the king and the Elemental Four raged war against them before they grew too big.

After innumerable deaths and sacrifices, the Demon Alliance was put to a stop. At the cost of the king and the most powerful of the Elemental Four.

Feeling the drawbacks of the war, the people of the Shalton Empire, decided they needed a new king to rule them. But, the old king had no descendants. So, they thought his relative would do the trick.

Gar, the Incompetent King.

And that’s where the book ended.

But, if the Shalton Empire has such strong forces within it, how could it fall to this situation?

What are the rest of the Elemental Four doing?

As questions and thoughts filled my head, I felt my eyes get heavier.

‘Hm? Is it bedtime already?’

I thought to myself.

Since coming to this world and obtaining this body, it’ll still take time to get used to this all.

But, it’s fine. I have time.
