Virgil was sitting in the back of a taxi as he looked out the window and wondered how his life got to that point. 2 weeks prior, he was living his life on the SHIELD base and being taught by 3 of the Avengers. The week prior, he found out he was a mutant. And at the current point in time, he was being shipped off to the school of mutants to learn how to 'use' his powers.
'My powers aren't even that difficult. I can already use 4 of the sets pretty well and that was just with self-training. The other 3 are just a matter of time.'
But as much as he wanted to say that to Jennifer, he knew his words would fall on deaf ears. Even if she was open-minded, she was very strict when it came to his wellbeing and what she thought was best for him. Fighting her on such matters was an uphill battle that Virgil just did to feel like fighting about this matter.
It took another 30 minutes until Virgil arrived at his new home.
The place was surrounded by brick walls. There was only one entrance and exit to the school which was the gate that was closed. The metal gate looked both very old yet new at the same time and exuded an aura of nobility.
Getting out of the car, Virgil went to the trunk to retrieve his luggage which consisted of 2 suitcases and a duffle bag. Only one of the suitcases was filled with clothes. The duffle bag and other suitcases were filled with a variety of personal items.
After waving off the taxi, Virgil walked toward the gate and pushed it open. As soon as he walked through it, he looked to his left and saw a beautiful woman with her back against the wall.
Looking to be in her mid-20s, the woman was a beauty. Whether it was her body or her face, she would make for an exceptional model or 'flower vase actress. Her most distinctive features were her beautiful green eyes that sucked in a person's soul and her bouncy red hair.
The woman got up from the ground and shot Virgil a friendly smile before stretching out her hand and introducing herself.
"Hi, there. You must be Virgil. I'm Jean Grey, one of the teachers here, one of Xavier's first students, and a member of the X-Men."
Virgil put out his hand to shake hers.
"Virgil Winters. Recently awakened mutant, playboy in the making, and junior supersoldier," Virgil introduced himself without hesitation or shame.
Hearing how Virgil introduced himself, Jean could not help but laugh. Most teens would stare at her in amazement or be nervous due to her status. She had rarely met someone who could talk to her so calmly after learning her identity.
"Follow me. Some of the kids stole the golf carts to race for we have to walk to the mansion," Jean apologized after she finished laughing. It was not the first time some students took advantage of the laidback attitude of school nor would it be the last, "Need any help with your bags?"
Virgil shook his head before lifting both of his suitcases with one arm while he casually carried his duffle bag in the other before making his way down the path. Seeing that he did not seem to be having any issues, Jean nodded before catching up to him and leading the way. As they walked, she began to introduce various things about the school to Virgil.
"This school was founded by the Professor 10 years ago. There were only 5 students back then. Over the past 10 years, we have grown tremendously. We now have over 300 students in the school that are divided into the elementary school, middle school, and high school levels.
Due to both our large but also small number of students, we only have about 17 teachers in the school. 1 for each of the core subjects for elementary, middle, and high school while 3 of the remaining teachers teach elective classes. Our last two teachers are Logan and Ororo who are in charge of the self-defense/ physical education class.
Over the years, the mansion has been renovated about 4 times. We have hundreds of rooms and several hidden passages that we encourage our students to find. Bonus points of final exams for each passage they find," Jean said with a wink.
"With that many rooms, come several benefits. Elementary school and middle school students are given roommates while high schoolers are each given their rooms.
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
We also have 2 Olympic pools, 4 tennis courts, 3 basketball courts, 4 gardens, and 5 acres of land that is either grassy land or forested to allow for a variety of locations for our students to relax and train to their hearts contents."
Jean kept introducing various aspects of the school to Virgil who would occasionally give responses but for the most part, would just nod along. No matter how much she explained, all she talked about were things that were common for schools. Even if the Xavier Institute had them on a more amazing scale, they were still nothing too special to just hear about.
The thing that partially interested Virgil was the talk of mutant relations. Jean kept talking about Xavier's Dream and Vision for the mutants of their school to be able to go out and have a peaceful coexistence with humans.
'Hmm. Even I know that the current state of affairs is tense. I probably know even more than most. Like the fact that a new model of Sentinels is being made at the moment.'
Virgil kept his thoughts to himself though. He knew that trying to dissuade someone from their beliefs was almost impossible to do, especially one as innocent as the one that Jean believed in.
It took about 15 minutes for the pair to finally arrive at the mansion which was the school. The duo walked through the front door and was instantly greeted with the deafening sounds of children being playful. Jean shot Virgil an apologetic glance before motioning for him to follow behind her.
The pair were looked at from all angles by the students of the school. New students were always coming into the school at random times but it was rare that one came so prepared. Most kids arrived with the clothes on their back a backpack or whatever else they had.
Virgil ignored the looks he got as he followed Jean up the stairs. While he was following her, he made sure that he enjoyed the scenery as he walked behind her but never let his eyes linger. He also began to admire some of the other students that were his age or even older.
One such student caused Virgil to set down his luggage for a moment as he went over to greet her. Jean noticed that he stopped following her and followed his gaze. Once she saw what he was up to, she could not help but laugh once again.
'He will keep things fun around here,' she thought to herself.
"Hey there, pretty senior. I'd like to introduce myself as your future boyfriend," Virgil said with a lazy smile on his face.
The girl looked surprised at Virgil who has just come up to her and said such a line. She even looked around to see if there was anyone else he could have been talking to but realized that she was the only one. Not sure how to respond, the girl starting giggling.
"Hey there, cure junior. My name is Katherine, not Pretty Senior. Most call me Kitty though.
Two issues with your introduction. First is that you would have to woe me. Second, and more importantly, I have a boyfriend that I am very interested in," she replied with a small smile of her own as she moved a loose strand of hair from in front of her face.
Kitty had chestnut hair pulled into a ponytail and a beautiful smile. She was standing next to an equally good-looking guy that Virgil decided to ignore. The guy standing next to her had a stiff smile on his face before he held out his hand for Virgil.
"Robert Drake but everyone calls me Bobby. I'm Kitty's boyfriend."
Not feeling awkward at all, Virgil put his hand out to shake Bobby's and gave a 'proper' introduction himself.
"Virgil Winters. Kitty's future boyfriend. A pleasure to meet you, Robert."
Bobby's expression turned even stiffer. Kitty and several other people who were watching could not help but laugh out loud. Feeling all the gazes on him, Bobby felt embarrassed. The air around him and Virgil suddenly got a bit colder.
Coughing to hid his frustration and embarrassment, Bobby said, "Well it was nice meeting you. We were on our way to lunch and would invite you but it seems like you have to unpack. Maybe next time."
Virgil nodded at Bobby's words before turning to face Kitty once more.
"Hmm. It's a shame. I'll take you up on your invitation next time. Later, Kitty. Bye, Robert," Virgil said before making his way back to Jean and picking up his stuff. The pair continued to walk towards Xavier's office.
Bobby and Kitty watched the duo until they walked around the corner. Kitty saw Bobby was still looking at where they just were before tugging on the other teen's shirt.
"Alright. He is gone," she said with a teasing smile. "No need to get so worked up over him. You're making the entire hallway colder."
Bobby then realized that he was still releasing cold air since his emotions were agitated. He calmed himself down in the surroundings immediately warmed up.
---
Jean looked at Virgil who was following her from behind before she laughed once more. Virgil had truly surprised her with how shameless he acted in front of Bobby and Kitty.
'Bobby will probably hold a grudge against this boy for a bit.'
"How come I didn't know you were such a flirt? Am I not charming enough?"
Virgil did not immediately reply but sent his gaze up and down the red head's body. After taking 10 seconds to appreciate her every curve, he explained himself.
"Nope. You are my type, especially since I have a thing for redheads and older women. I figured I might have been too young for you since we look to be around 10 years apart but if you're interested..."
"Nope! I'm good!" Jean said before he could finish his train of thought, "I am indeed far too old for you. Keep flirting with girls around your age."
Virgil shrugged his shoulders and have Jean a once over, once again before he continued to walk along the path they were on. Jean let out a breath of relief for having escaped the conversation before catching up to Virgil to hurry him to the Professor's office.
'I never should have asked him. This guy is indeed a playboy in the making. So many of the girls here will have broken hearts,' Jean thought to herself as she continued to lead the way.
The pair had arrived at the Professor's office a few minutes later. Jean knocked on the door and got a response almost immediately.
"Come in."
The pair entered the room and saw a blade man in a suit sitting behind a desk with a folder in his hand. He looked up at the pair and flashed them a smile.
"Thank you for picking him up, Jean. I will take care of it from here. You better grab something to eat so that Wolverine doesn't have to watch your class for too long."
Jean smiled at the thought of Wolverine teaching her English class and laughed before agreeing with the Professor.
"Then I will leave him in your care. Be careful, Professor. This guy is a bit of a bad boy."
"Haha, thank you for the warning, Jean. I will be sure to watch over him," the Professor replied. Jean smiled and nodded at the Professor then Virgil before leaving the room to the pair.
Virgil went up to the desk and sat across from the Professor. The Professor flashed another smile before he introduced himself.
"Hello, Virgil. My name is Charles Xavier. I am the founder and headmaster of this school where we help young mutants learn to control their powers around those like themselves."
