Chapter 14

01.489.M39

Battleship - ~17 years (Current: 1 - Building: 1 - Queue: 0)

Battlecruiser - ~10 years (Current: 6 - Building: 3 Queue: 0)

Light Cruiser - ~5.5 years (Current: 5 - Building: 2 Queue: 6)

Heavy Frigate - ~4 years (Current: 46 - Building: 3 Queue: 82)

Where does the time go? Father absolutely loves the updated light cruiser and queued up an additional 7.

The initial responses on their performance have been promising. Being able to reduce the number of escorts as well as the reduced travel time has been a nice little boost to profits. They haven’t experienced their trial by fire yet but exercises and simulations show them performing admirably.

The space hulk was towed into the system about a decade ago. Some Ultramarines visited it for a while. Don’t know what was onboard that needed them called in nor do I want to.

I can’t help but wonder how many Ultramarines we could get for a ship. What’s a few of their immortal lives compared to a ship? I’ll keep that thought to myself..

Accatran has done a lot of exploration of the space hulk. We didn’t get a copy of the actual recovered data but we were given a list of what was recovered. Appraisal of its worth. How much the hulk itself is worth for extractable hulls and salvage materials.

I suggested that we queue up more battlecruisers if they’ll let us. He wants more Light cruisers and favors held in reserve. I relented when he said I can take the battleship out to kill more orks.

I assumed it was going to be his flagship but he opted to stick around for one of the new battlecruisers currently being built.

I find it funny that we’re rogue traders but we’ve spent most of our time sitting at forge Accatran directing things from afar. In lore rogue traders are always swashbuckling across some new hell trying not to die or lose their fortunes.

No point sitting around anymore. Time to resume the Great Ork Trading Expedition.

We departed with 1 battleship, 6 battlecruisers and 42 heavy frigates.

We resumed where we left off on our previous Trading Expedition. Systematically going from system to system. Burning ork systems, bombarding orks from orbit to help the local Imperial Citizens.

This continued for 13 years. We cleared out the entire pocket that we’d originally planned.

“Map 1 Map 2

We’ll be working on clearing the space from Accatran > Ichar IV > Agrellan then as far north as the Great Rift.”

I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the encounters we found along the way. From a pure mass destroyed-recovered it was a little over 2,000 megatons.

We didn’t run into anything larger than a Cruiser. Well other than big roks. That may sound like a lot of mass but consider that just the escorts from our previous battle was more mass than what we’ve destroyed on this entire excursion.

There’s no denying it’s good for our Dynasty. I don’t know what father has queued up in my absence but more ships are always good.

It’s also good for the Imperium. With these orks out of the way they’re less likely to be bothering Imperial worlds. Also the influx of materials will see more weapons of war completed for other factions.

When we trade in for ships we’ve been getting a 25-30% return. We obviously aren’t complaining. A primary forge world shipyard essentially giving us “VIP Service” and not having to wait decades-centuries for building docks to be available. It’s worth it.

Leaving all these cleansed worlds in our wake has had me thinking as of late. How much effort would it take to reseed them with life? How long would it take the biosphere to recover to the point it’s suitable for human habitation?

It seems like a large missed opportunity. Assuming of course we had the desire, ability and backing of other factions to set something up.

The remainder of this Trading Expedition has left me a lot of time to think about the future and make plans. Given the state of the galaxy I’m hesitant to say anything let alone put it in writing.

The only reasonable path I can think of is to maintain the course. Keep cleansing orks. Converting their hulls into Imperial assets. Wish I could go on a ‘speed run’. Sounds like a good way to die though. I’m just a generic human all things considered. *sigh* patience.

Enough of my rambles and this decade of boring pew pews. Back to Accatran I say!
