That’s it! Lyra passed the last of her courses and has finished her degree. Harvard Business Degree. It took 3 years.
A notification pops on her display “Congratulations on Joining the Harvard Business Class of 2049” She sends a quick message to her mom. Lyra is quite close to her mom Candice, a high-powered lawyer. They message each other throughout the day.
Lyra is 24, tall thin, very short pixie cut hair currently dark brown. She is very pretty and moves with casual confidence. She is not a great student, but rarely scored below average on her evaluations – still, there were many options for her to choose for her College education.
Her mom went to Northwester and often talks about how hard she had to work get into a top school like Northwester. Classes were hard. It was a grueling 4 years filled with thick books at the library and competitive shuffling of students get to the top of the class. You had to work to get into a top grad school. After northwester she had another 4 years at the University of Chicago to get her law degree. All of this was back when “on-campus” living was still a thing. There are some trade schools that still offer in-person education programs, but all degree seeking courses have been exclusively on-line for over a decade. Web-based degree programs don’t have the need for exclusivity that past universities delt with. There are no limiting factors such as of teacher’s student ratios, physical classroom seating constraints, or variable grading workload depending on class size. Lyra’s college experience was nothing like her mother’s.

The drive for top marks in school was determined to be a significant mental health burden on students. High levels of completion left many unsuccessful students with compromised metal health. Educational performance was proven to be a major stressor for Gen Z. The evolution of secondary ed. addressed mental heath issues associated with Educational Ability Diversity. The education program now is much more balanced and adjust each students work-load to match each student’s individual performance.
Harvard is the most common degree certifier. They offer over 350 degrees. There are a few big players and countless smaller degree certifiers. Lyra read a post recently stating that Harvard has captured 40% of the market share for degree certification.
Lyra degree program was Law and Regulations. She has seen many past lawsuit cases on university admissions processes. There were countless cases in early late 1900 and early 2000 where Universities were consciously or unconsciously bias toward one race/ethnicity or gender. University admissions no longer include personal information. Technology has changed the need for regulations and the category law is prolific with litigation. Lyra’s mom suggested the degree and said it would have high job security.

Really Candice is right down the hall in her office. Lyra has lived in the Chicago apartment for her whole life with no thought of a change.
